| Series Preview: | Corktown comes to Castle Rock, sitting .5 games ahead in the AL East. Castle Rock, despite a better record, is 14.5 games back in the AL West, but looking pretty strong in the wildcard race. |
| Game #1: | Abbott vs. Carpenter in this one. Both teams load the bases in the first inning, but fail to score. Lenny Harris opens the scoring for Corktown in the 2nd with a two-run homer. And, that will be all that Corktown needs (although they’ll get more), as Paul Abbott was spectacular, going the complete game, allowing just two hits and 3 walks and no runs. The final is 8-0, Corktown.

| Game #2: | Ellis Burks gets a two-run homer off of Kenny Rogers to get Corktown on the board in the 1st. But, Castle Rock ties it back up in the bottom half with two out singles from Sweeney and Easley. And, Castle Rock does not look back from there, as they score runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th to take a 7-3 lead. With a 4-run lead in the 9th, Castle Rock still brings in its closer, Benitez. He proceeds to give up a double to Lankford and homer to Rolen to start the inning, which closes the gap to 7-5. But, he gets the next three outs, and the final is 7-5, Castle Rock.

| Game #3: | It’s a back and forth affair as Pettitte and Baldwin duel. The Hounds take a 3-2 lead into the top of the 8th, when Pettitte gives way to Wunsch for Castle Rock. After getting the first two outs, he gives up a single and a walk and a wild pitch. Eric Young, a pinch runner, then steals home to tie the game at 3-3 and Keith Osik provides a single to make it 4-3, Corktown. But, not to be outdone, Keith Lockhart hits a two-run homer in the bottom of the 8th to reclaim a 5-4 lead for Castle Rock.
Benitez comes on for the 9th, hoping not to recreate his performance from last game. So, of course, he gives up a lead-off triple to Ausmus. But, he gets Lankford and Rolen to strike out with the man on 3rd. But, Giambi delivers a clutch single to tie the game at 5-5 with two outs. A-Rod then delivers an RBI double, scoring Giambi and Corktown takes the 6-5 lead. In the bottom of the 9th, Hernandez gets Snow and Bonds out to start the inning. Luis Gonzalez walks but Dye strikes out to end the game, a disappointing one for the Hounds. 6-5, Corktown. WP: Hernandez (5-1) |
| Game #4: | Corktown jumps out to a 5-1 lead behind homers from Ausmus and Abbott in the bottom 3rd of their lineup. But, Castle Rock gets a 2-run homer from Easley to make it 5-3 in the 7th. But, that’s as close as Castle Rock will get, as Corktown extends the lead to 7-3, and the Hounds can’t muster any more offense. Final is 7-3, Corktown as they guarantee at least a split.

| Game #5: | The game is tied 2-2, after Bonds delivers a HR in the bottom of the 5th. The bullpen lets down the team again, as Kelly Wunsch gives up a 3-run homer to Burks to give Corktown the 5-2 lead in the 7th.
John Wetteland continues his atrocious season for Castle Rock. He is a 10 reliever who has a 7.25 ERA in 35.2 IP. We didn’t expect him to be great, but also didn’t expect him to be this bad! The final is 9-3, Corktown as they guarantee themselves a series win. WP: Stottlemyre (4-6) |
| Game #6: | It’s Game 99 on the season and a rematch of Game 1 of the series. Dye gets the home team on the board early with a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 1st. Castle Rock adds two more in the 2nd, and stakes Carpenter to a 4-0 lead, which he will likely need against this Corktown offense! But, Carpenter is cruising until the 7th, when he gives up a 3-run homer to Rolen.
But, the Castle Rock offense has finally woken up, as they continue to pile on hits and runs, scoring 14 runs on 19 hits. Dye provides two homers and a double and everyone in the lineup gets at least one hit, and Carpenter goes the distance to pick up the victory, 14-3 Castle Rock. WP: Carpenter (4-3) |
| Series Summary: | Corktown takes 4 out of 6 as the normally hot Castle Rock bats were cooled off for most of the series. As we hit the 100 games mark it looks like Castle Rock will be in a fight for the wildcard race. |

| Game #6: | Heckuva finale! Teams combine to hang 7 crooked numbers.7-3 heading into the 7th, Hornets plate 2 to pull within 2 and then 3 more in the 8th to take the lead! It was short lived though as Mantei and Fyhrie struggled in the bottom half allowing 4 runs. Kendall 2-4 3 RBI and Cordero 2-5 2 RBI did the damage for Manhattan. Blarney played small ball with 14 singles.

He scatters 11 hits and gives his team a chance as CAL plates 4 runs. But the Mauler bats provide little to no support and were anything but exciting only manage 2 runs. Alfonzo 3-5, 2-2B, HR, RBI. Vladimir Guerrero adds to his league-leading HR total #42, one more than a fav DMB song #41, lol. CAL 4-2. |

It’s the Jacque Jones show as he gathers all the runs going 2-5, HR, 5-RBIs. Turk Wendell pitches 2 hitless innings of relief and preserves the win for Brian Tolberg, #9 (is there a Beatle reference here? Lol) The Maulers save some face after 4 losses in a row to start the series. MVM 5-3. |

California Quake how fitting a nickname, 49 runs on 89 hits! Nomar Garciaparra 5 out of 6 multi-hit games. Darin Erstad maintains a .404 BA going 10-21. The Maulers fight back and salvage the last 2 games with a couple of fine pitching performances by Andy Ashby & Brian Tolberg and timely hitting, with one blow-out win. MVM doing all it can to hold on to 2nd place and gain a playoff spot. The Quake solidifies their spot once again as the league front-runner 70-29 .707 WPCT., incredible. |

| Game #1: | The Killer B’s Step up when needed. Bagwell and Bichette combine to go 7-10 with 3 Homeruns and 9 RBIs in a blowout game against Portland to start the series. With a shaky start by Parque led to a 2-0 lead early for Portland, it was all about the B’s as Southlake put up a 7 spot in the third and never looked back.
The southpaw for the Scorpions got into a groove surrendering just one more run as he went 7 innings to push his record to 7-5. Shuey came in to shut the door when it looked as if Portland had something brewing in the 8th. Responding to the persistent rumors that Bagwell has demanded a trade, Scorpion GM Stauffer stated “As long as he is cashing checks with our team name on them, we expect more games like this from him and Bichette.” Both players refused to comment on the GMs quote. This series is gonna be a good one. |
| Game #2: | Big Hits Continue in Southlake. Despite outhitting the Scorpions 10 to 6, it wasnt enough as Southlake used the long ball to take game two by a score of 7-5.
The big hits started early as Martin plated two in the first and followed up later with a bomb going 3 for 4 on the day with 3RBIs. The Scorpion defense was shaky giving up 4 unearned runs in the 5th but then settled back down. Any future threats were quickly extinguished as Rocker earned a hold in a shaky 7th and Rivera his 18th save pitching the final two innings each in 1, 2, 3 fashion. The Mavs are now losers of 5 straight and they will look to Kile in the next game to stop the bleeding. |
| Game #3: | Portland Wastes Great Efforts in 5-1 loss to Scorpions. Despite going a combined 6 for 7 between Clark and Valentin, the Mavericks could only score one in another loss for the reeling team.
Dante Bichette hit his 19th bomb of the year in the third inning to pace the offense for Southlake. Meanwhile, Astocio scattered 9 hits over 7 innings yielding only 1 run to even his record at 6 and 6 on the season. Its been a long time since Southlake has won a series, but todays victory ensures at least a tie in this one. The two teams go at it again tomorrow. |
| Game #4: | Portland Sophmore AJ Burnett Hurls a Gem to get the team back on Track. Scattering 6 hits over 8 innings and one loan run, The Mavericks cruised to an easy 6-1 victory on Burnetts strong arm.
Wil Clark led the Mavericks with 3 hits and 2 RBIs. The back end of the rotation for Southlake still can not find its footing. Meanwhile John Rocker‘s nightmares continue on Elm Street as 57% of his inherited runners have come around the bases to touch home plate. Said the GM, Stauffer after the game, “How did he do in the last few innings? I was too busy throwing up after watching that garbage pitching display in the 6th. Made me nauseous to say the least” The victory today gives the Mavs hopes of a split on the road. |
| Game #5: | Wild Pitches, Errors, and Bichette too much for the Mavericks. In a 5-3 loss to the Scorpions the Mavs couldnt get out of their own way. After being staked a two run lead, a wild pitch by Sirokta led to two runs in the bottom of the third.
Portland tied the game at 3 in the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th with Bichette on second after his 4th hit in 5 plate appearances on the day the Mavs intentionally walked Davis to face Cairo. That move backfired after he snuck one by the shortstop and Owens airmailed the throw home allowing two to score. That was all SouthLake needed as Rivera came in for a 6 out save, his 20th on the season. The killer B’s with a 5-7 effort, two runs and two RBIs combined are really performing well for the new skipper. The series finale is tomorrow is what is sure to be a duel. |
| Game #6: | The Killer Vowels attack in 9 – 2 Scorpion Win. O’Leary and Young (The Vowels -A, E, I, O, U and Sometimes Y) gave the killer B’s some rest. Going a combined 6 for 9 with 5 runs and 7 RBIs they were just too much to handle today.
Reynoso earned the victory and Bottenfield fresh from a call up from Fort Wayne did the job today, yielding 7 hits over 8 innings. Shuey came in to close out the game. Winning 5 out of 6 over Portland has definitely changed the team mood as they fly out to Texas to take on Fort Worth next week. |
