But Newark would rally with 4 in the 9th to put the game away. Mike Piazza hit 2 longballs (#s 43 & 44), singled, and knocked in 6 to pace the Bears’ offense. Carlos Feebles also homered for Newark (7).

Game #4: | Gas Hornets do it again – this time a 5 run 8th wins it 6-2. 6 hits, 5 walks, and that’s the ball game. Dave Howard smacks his 1st homer of the season for Hollywood. Freddy Garcia (9-13) takes the loss, John Wetteland (4-1) wins it in relief. |
Game #5: | Gas Hornets take a breather and win this one by scoring a lot early, up 6-2 after 3 (4 run 3rd). Rico Brogna with a homer (14), double and 3 rbis leads the way. Ruben Rivera (17) homers for the Vamps! Rick Reed, who’s been pitching horrendously this year, gets the win and somehow is 10-6). Jason Isringhausen absorbs the loss (3-8). |
Game #6: | Manhattan manages the sweep in a wild and wholly finale. Down 6-0 after 3 – Mike Stanley 3 rbis, Cliff Floyd 3 hits, 2 runs, rbi and a Ruben Rivera homer (18) lead Hollywood. Then the Gas Hornets come back with back to back 4 run innings in the 5th and 6th – Matt Stairs (29) a 3 run shot. Kevin Sefcik and Craig Wilson each with 2 rbis and Brian Banks fills in a C with 2 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs! Then an 8th inning single run provides insurance as Hollywood plates 2 in the 9th to bring the final to 9-8 Manhattan! And Hollywood had the tying and winning runs on base in the 9th! Pat Mahomes (4-6) gets the win an Matt Mantei (11) the save. Odalis Perez (1-6) couldn’t hang on and gets the loss. |
