Portland Mavericks @ Corktown Bootleggers |
|
|---|---|
| Series Summary: | Portland flys across the country to Corktown and takes 2 of 6. Corktown loses their ace Ramon Martinez for 39 days, but luckily for them will return the week before the postseason. |
Detroit Stars @ California Quakes |
|
|---|---|
| Series Summary: | Detroit and California split. A lot of offense and terrible pitching. |
Fort Worth Panthers @ Chicago Demolition |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Two teams that sit atop of their Divisions square up in a solid match-up in the dog days of August. Could this turn ugly? |
| Game #1: | Chicago’s middle-of-the-lineup drives in all 7 Runs as Carlos Delgado has a Home Run & 3 RBI’s, Eric Davis a Home Run & 2 RBI’s and Tony Clark has 2 Solo Home Runs to put the Panthers down.
Final Score: Chicago 7 – Fort Worth 2 Win: Pedro Martinez 14-8 (3.14) |
| Game #2: | The Panthers take Vengence on the Demolition, Ivan Rodriguez is the main man for Fort Worth hitting a Home Run & Driving in 4 Runs.
Final Score: Fort Worth 10 – Chicago 4 Win: Sean Bergman 12-9 (3.57) |
| Game #3: | A pitchers duel as Brian Anderson locks in with Roger Clemens. Tony Gwynn hits the 1st pitch of the game out of the park for Fort Worth. Tony Phillips & Tony Clark hit solo Home Runs for the Demolition. That’s all the scoring in the game, all on solo Home Runs.
Final Score: Chicago 2 – Fort Worth 1 Win: Roger Clemens 15-5 (2.66) |
| Game #4: | The exact opposite of the 3rd game this one is a high-scoring affair & a total of 54 bases reached between the two teams. Leading the way for the Panthers is Edgar Martinez with his 4 for 5, 3 Runs Scored, 2 Home Runs, & 4 RBI’s (11 Bases). Shannon Stewart is 2 for 5 with a Double, Home Run & 3 RBI’s, along with Carlos Delgado is 3 for 5 with a Home Run & 3 RBI’s. The starters stunk the place up badly.
Final Score: Fort Worth 13 – Chicago 9 Win: Hideo Nomo 14-4 (4.49) |
| Game #5: | Kevin Brown goes the distance allowing only 1 Hit. Gary Sheffield is 2 for 4 with a Home Run & 2 RBI’s. Brown is unreal.
Final Score: Fort Worth 13 – Chicago 9 Win: Kevin Brown 22-4 (1.93) |
| Game #6: | Edgar Martinez & Ivan Rodriguez lead the way with Home Runs for Fort Worth. Shannon Stewart & Tony Clark have Bombs for the Demolition. The Arm Barn for the Panthers wins it in the end.
Final Score: Fort Worth 7 – Chicago 6 Win: Mike Myers 3-0 (2.93) |
| Series Summary: | The Panthers win the last game by 1-Run & take the series 4 games to 2. |
Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Danbury Mad Hatters |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | 1st place versus last place. |
| Series Summary: | 1st place wins 4 and last place wins 2. |
Newark Bears @ Baltimore Blue Crabs |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | The N.L. Central leading Bears (82-41) visit Baltimore (45-78). |
| Game #1: | Bears bang out 10 hits to take the opener. Mike Piazza, with 3 hits, an RBI, and a walk, and Aaron Ledesma with a single, double, and 3 runs scored pace the Newark offense. Chris Stynes hit his 5th homerun of the season for the Crabs.
NEW 5/10/0 |
| Game #2: | This was the 1st of 2 total routes the Bears will inflict upon Baltimore in the series. Newark scores 17 times on 22 hits to win 17-4 … and the Blue Crabs 4 runs all came in the bottom of the 9th. Newark would score in every inning but the 7th. Gonzalez, Strawberry, Garcia, and Morandini homer for the Bears.
NEW 17/22/0 |
| Game #3: | Some how Baltimore manages to score 3 times off of Newark ace Al Leiter and take a 3-2 lead to the 9th … but it all falls apart when the Crabs’ “stud” closer Esteban Yan (he had saved 25 straight opportunities) yields a 3 run homerun to Daryl Strawberry and Chuck McElroy & Rob Nen slam the door on Baltimore in the 9th.
NEW 5/7/1 |
| Game #4: | Shawn Estes and Jeff Fassero and a pair of relievers would toss 6 innings of shut out ball. The Bears’ bats wake up late and Newark rallies for a 4-1 victory. Newark would still manage to collect 10 hits, including homeruns by Piazza, Gonzalez, and Canseco. Fassero would leave the game in the 5th with an injury.
NEW 4/10/0 |
| Game #5: | Attack of the bats, part deux, as Newark would bash out 20 hits in this one. Piazza and Gonzalez go deep again, and Mo Vaughn joins them. Chan Ho Park holds Baltimore to a pair of runs over 7 innings pitched.
NEW 11/20/0 |
| Game #6: | Crabs rally for 3 in the bottom of the 7th, and this time the bullpen holds, as Baltimore salvages the series finale. Baltimore had the homerun bats in this one, as Chipper Jones is joined by Stynes, Samuel, and Batista. Strawberry homered for Newark.
NEW 6/13/0 |
| Series Summary: | The series went pretty much as expected with Newark bats bashing a terrible Baltimore pitching staff and winning 5 of 6. Newark had 82 hits in the 6 game series and Baltimore committed 9 errors. |
Harper Woods Expos @ New Hampshire Nighthawks |
|
|---|---|
| Game #1: | Expos pound the baseball in game 1 with 7 XBH. This one got ugly. Expos 19 Hawks 5 |
| Game #2: | Tony Saunders gives the Hawks just what they needed, he goes 8 giving up 3 runs. Damon lead the charge for the bats with 3 RBI, Segui hits HR #14. Hawks 8 Expos 3 |
| Game #3: | Jaret Wright shuts down the Hawks bats going 7 shutout innings. Walley Joyner goes 3for3 with 2 RBI. Expos 7 Hawks 0 |
| Game #4: | Rick Helling throws a 5-Hit CG shutout. Segui Hits a 2-run HR. Hawks 3 Expos 0 |
| Game #5: | Scot Erickson goes 7 giving up just 2 hits and 1 run. Servais hits HR #4 on the year. Expos win a close one. Expos 3 Hawks 1 |
| Game #6: | Hawks get 4 in the 6th thanks to a 3 run double for Mark Kotsay. Hawks bullpen goes 3.2 IP allowing just 1 run to salvage the split! |
| Series Summary: | 2 teams trying to get to .500 split a 6 gamer. |
Michigan Mauraders @ Long Beach Titans |
|
|---|---|
| Series Summary: | Michigan sweeps the 6 game series with Long Beach, outscoring them 52-13. |
Stockton Wings @ Manhattan Gas Hornets |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Gee but it’s great to be back home, home is where I rather be-e-e! I know we were only gone a week – but it was a REALLY BAD week! So back home and hosting the pitching poor Stockton Wings. Can we get it done? |
| Game #1: | Darryl Hamilton has a nice game, 3 hits (double) and a walk and he gets one in the 1st and scores. Jason Kendall also gets 3 hits and one of them ties it up in the bottom half. Troy Glaus singles home Vladimir Guerrero in the 2nd and then Guerrero homers (35) in the 3rd and it’s 3-1 Wings. Kendall (16) homers in the 3rd and then the Gas Hornets take over. 2 run 4th and 5th makes it 6-3 and then a 6 run 8th puts it way far away. Garrett Anderson (10) and Luis Alicea (6) homer as well. STO 4- 8-1 LP Jason Schmidt (5-14) MGH 12-15-0 WP Matt Morris (7-6) S Ricky Bones (2) For his efforts Kendall gets HBP and will miss the next 2 games. |
| Game #2: | Matt Stairs (18) homer off Jon Lieber in the 4th for 2 runs and a 3-0 lead. Rick Reed was strong, but in the 5th he gives up a few hits including a 2 run single by Darryl Hamilton (who again has a 3 hit game). Then in the 7th, Todd Hollandsworth hits a PH rbi double to tie the game. However, the Gas Hornets get to Julian Tavarez for 2 runs in the 8th and Carlos Reyes nails down the save in the 9th. STO 3-7-0 LP Tavarez (3-7) MGH 5-9-1 WP Dave Telgheder (4-0) S Reyes (3) |
| Game #3: | Darryl Hamilton drops from lead-off to 3rd in the order and it cuts him down to 2 hits – but the 1st was an rbi double in the 1st. However, that was about the end of any damage down to Sterling Hitchcock who goes all the way, 4 hits, 1 run, 7 ks for the win. Cliff Politte left the game to start the 4th and Marc Pisciotta replaced him. He stymied the Gas Hornets until the 6th when they exploded for 5 runs including a 3 run Lenny Harris (10) homer. STO 1-4-1 LP Pisciotta (1-1) MGH 7-9-1 WP Hitchcock (7-5) |
| Game #4: | Brian Moehler carried a no-hitter into the 8th when Quentin McCracken singles to break it up. But Moehler does get the CG shutout – 3 hitter, 9 ks, maybe a pitcher of the week, and more importantly the win. Little doubt as his teammates scored 4 runs in the both the 3rd and 4th enroute to a big 12-0 win. Tino Martinez slugs 2 (30) and drives in half of the 12 runs. STO 0- 3-2 LP Bryce Florie (1-9) MGH 12-13-1 WP Moehler (13-5) |
| Game #5: | Matt Stairs has 2 hits, a homer (19) and drives in 3. Tino Martinez has 2 hits and drives in 2 (for 96 on the year) and Tim Wakefield is good enough to hang on for a 6-2 win. John Jaha has a rbi triple in the 5th and then scores to make the score 6-2 Manhattan and that’s the final. STO 2-6-1 LP Dave Mlicki (2-9) MGH 6-9-0 WP Wakefield (14-4) |
| Game #6: | In the series finale, Stockton scores in the 1st on a Vladimir Guerrero homer (36). Then a John Jaha rbi double and solo homer (2) make it 3-0 in the 6th. But the Gas Hornets finally figure out John Wasdin for 2 in the 6th and then 4 more in the 8th including a Matt Stairs 3 run homer (20). That made it 6-3 going into the 9th and Matt Mantei gets the save (3). STO 3-8-0 LP Wasdin (2-7) MGH 6-8-0 WP Dave Telgheder (5-0) |
| Series Summary: | Manhattan takes advantage of weak pitching from Stockton to get a much needed sweep and rest some players because next week we host Hampton, who has probably been the hottest team in the NL of late! (Or the Gas Hornets have really been stinking up the place – I prefer positive notes!!) |
Valdosta Bombers @ Santa Rosa Beach Bums |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | The Valdosta Bombers come to visit the friendly confines of the Emerald Coast. |
