Chicago Demolition @ Castle Rock Hounds |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | First place Chicago visits Castle Rock, who sits in first in the wildcard. Castle Rock has been playing like a first place team while at home. Should be a good matchup. |
| Game #1: | Chicago jumps all over Kenny Rogers early, plating 5 runs in the first three innings. Castle Rock tries to claw back, and gets as close as 5-3, but Stottlemyre pitches well for Chicago in a complete game victory. Stewart, Delgado and Cirillo go deep for Chicago and the Demolition take it by a 9-3 final.
WP: Stottlemyre (7-5) |
| Game #2: | The script is flipped in this one, as Castle Rock jumps out to an early 3-0 lead. Chicago comes back to make it 4-2 in the 8th, but Dreifort goes 8.2 for the victory for the Hounds, allowing only 2 unearned runs. Snow is the hero for Castle Rock, delivering 3 RBI.
WP: Dreifort (5-4) |
| Game #3: | Carlos Delgado just explodes in this one, as he hits two homers and delivers 5 RBI, as Chicago stakes its way to an 8-0 lead. Castle Rock makes it interesting, by cutting it to 8-5 and having the tying run at the plate in Bonds, but they can’t do anything more. The final is 8-5, Chicago, as they take the 2-1 series lead.
WP: Millwood (10-5) |
| Game #4: | Delgado, making overtures for Player of the Week, has another two-homer game. But, this time it is in a losing effort, as the Basset Hounds explode for 5 runs in the 8th inning, after entering the inning down, 3-2. The final is Castle Rock 7 and Chicago 4. And, the series is even.
WP: Mulholland (4-4) |
| Game #5: | It is Clemens vs. Pettitte in a battle of master vs. student. Neither pitcher factors into the decision, as it stands 4-4 going into the 9th. Goodwin delivers a clutch single and Chicago takes a 5-4 lead, and brings on Wagner to close it out. But, he doesn’t even manage to get an out. Clayton leads off with a walk, Bonds delivers a double (his third of the game) and Gonzalez delivers a 2-RBI walk-off single as Castle Rock takes it 6-5 in dramatic fashion, and has the 3-2 series lead. Bonds and Gonzalez go 7-9 with 6 doubles on the game!
WP: Bohanon (3-8) |
| Game #6: | Delgado strikes again with a 3-run shot in the 3rd and Chicago doesn’t look back. Stottlemyre, he of the rubber arm, pitches another complete game and the final is 9-3, Chicago. Eric Davis and Charles Johnson add homers for the Demolition.
WP: Stottlemyre (8-5) |
| Series Summary: | Chicago and Castle Rock split, befitting these team’s records. In an odd twist, Castle Rock beats both Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens and loses to Todd Stottlemyre twice. I guess that’s why you play the games. |
