Santa Rosa Beach Bums @ Blarney Drive Bandits

Series Preview: Da Bums take on Da Bandits for 6.
Game #1: Smoltz is pulled in the 6th as Blarney drives in 5 via a HR and Triple against him. All tied up after 7 full. Each time scores in in the 8th. 9th is all doughnuts so game 1 brings extras. Blarney gets Santiago to blink in the 10th for the W. Teams combine for 23 hits but also 3 errors.

Game #2: Score tied 0-0 after 5 1/2. Then BOOM! Bandits hang a 6-spot in the bottom of the 5th. Karsay did not get the number of the bus that hit him. Astacio then allows a 4-spot in the 6th and the route was on. 16 hits for Blarney and just 5 for Santa Rosa.

Game #3: The hits continue to fall for Blarney as they collect 13 more and plate 11. Wells turned in a solid outing to hold down the Bums.

Game #4: Score was tied after 8 full. Astacio (5 hits) and Johnson (2 hits) were both dealing. Johnson completes the game but Crabtree on for Astacio is hit hard and could only record one out before The Bandits score.

Game #5: Another nail-biter. Blarney scores in the bottom of the 9th to tie it up and send it to extras. No score in the 10th and 11th innings. Blarney was able to score of Jones in the 12th to take another tight one.

Game #6: Hampton was on for the finale, allowing just 2 hits over 8 full. Rosado pitched well for 7 innings but the pen imploded as Miller faced just 4 batters and allowd 2 walks and 2 hits.

Game #2: Mo Vaughn hits a 2-run HR in the 8th and Kent follows with a solo shot to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Stars to the W. Rivera picks up his 19th save. Detroit 4, New Hampshire 2.
Game #3: Troy O’Leary and Miguel Tejada each with 3 hits to lead the Nighthawks to the W. Bell, Kent and Morris with 2 hits each for the Stars. Rocker allows a solo HR and K’s the side in the 9th for his 20th save. New Hampshire 6, Detroit 4.

Game #1: Things could not start out worse for the Bears as SP Chuck Finley gets hurt after just one inning and must leave the game. Newark is forced to use the bullpen for 8 innings. Manhattan Grade 10 SP Brian Moehler pitches a complete game shutout despite walking 6 batters, he was aided by 4 Double Plays!! Tino Martinez hits his 24th HR for the Hornets.

Game #2: Newark beats up Hornets SP Tim Wakefield highlighted by a Juan Gonzalez Grand Slam HR in the bottom of the 2nd – his 30th HR of the year.

Final score 8-3 (Bears)

Game #3: Bears SP Chan Ho Park clearly has nothing as he gives up 4 runs in the top of the 1st, but is forced to take one for the team and stay in the game due to the Chuck Finley injury in game 1 – his final line is 10 runs on 19 hits in 7 innings!! Tino Martinez hits his 25th homer for the Hornets.

Game #4: Bears SP Francisco Cordova delivers a much-needed complete game victory besting Gas Hornets ace Matt Morris in the process. Most of the damage coming on a Juan Gonzalez 3 run homer in the bottom of the 4th inning, his 32nd of the year.

Game #5: This game is tied 2-2 after 7 ½ innings, to keep things close, the Hornets Manager brings in super closer John Wettland in the bottom of the 8th, he promptly gets rocked for 4 runs on 4 hits, highlighted by a Mark Grace 2 run homer, his 2nd of the game.

Final Score 6-4 (Bears)

Game #6: The Bears get their revenge on game 1 starter Brian Moehler by rocking him to the tune of 7 runs and 9 hits in 1.1 innings. This game featured 7 Home Runs, including # 33 by Juan Gonzalez!!

Final Score 11-7 (Bears)

Series Summary: In a series that started out horribly for the Bears by getting destroyed in game 1, they manage to come roaring back to win the last 3 games and take the series 4-2.

Juan Gonzalez makes a case for player of the week by hitting 4 Home Runs and driving in 12 runs!!!

Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Valdosta Bombers

Series Preview: 1st Place Winnipeg pays a visit to Valdosta.
Series Summary: Valdosta wins 4 of 6 (somehow) to improve to 55-56. Winnipeg still with a commanding lead in the NL West. McGwire only hit 5 HR’s with what seemed like 100 walks. Some of those were my call though 🙂
