Newark Bears @ Hampton Huskies

Series Summary: The series proved to be a reminder of how little I liked Mike Piazza and Al Leiter.

Stockton Wings @ Santa Rosa Beach Bums

Series Preview: The Stockton Wings come to the friendly confines of Santa Rosa Beach for a six game series.
Series Summary: The Wings take the first three and the Bums the last three. Lots of last inning hitting heroics.

Harper Woods Expos @ DeWitt Tigers

Series Summary: DeWitt and Harper Woods battle to a split. Ponson went 2-0 with both complete games.

Hollywood Vampires @ Corktown Bootleggers

Series Summary: Corktown wins the series 4-2. After getting shut out in games 4 and 5, Hollywood decided for the bats to wake up and score 15 runs in game 6. The rebuilding Vampires head south to Fort Worth next week.

Danbury Mad Hatters @ Long Beach Titans

Series Summary: In a series between last place teams, Danbury takes 5 of 6 from Long Beach.

Valdosta Bombers @ Manhattan Gas Hornets

Series Preview: Bombers come to Big Apple for a 6 pack as Gas Hornets look to home cooking for a break…
Game #1: Sterling Hitchcock (7 ip) and 4 relievers hold Bombers to 4 hits and no runs as Hornets open up for 15 hits and 7 runs. Jason Kendall the biggest bat, 2 for 4, 3 rbis, homer (10).
VAL 0- 4-0 LP Shane Reynolds (8-6)
MGH 7-15-0 WP Hitchcock (5-4)
Game #2: Gas Hornets, behind Brian Moehler run the Bombers scoreless streak to 16 innings before Valdosta breaks through for 3 runs in the 8th. Eric Karros hits his 2nd double of the game driving in 2. Those runs cut the Manhattan lead to 4-3 as Garrett Anderson had another 3 hit game, 2 double and 4 rbis. Bottom of the 8th Gas Hornets add 2 more to make it a 6-3 win.
Toughest blow was Moyer walking off the mound in the 4th (out for 2 weeks!). And that threw off the rotation for the rest of the week as Tom Candiotti and John Thomson pitch a lot to get the game finished.
VAL 3- 6-1 LP Tom Candiotti (12-9)
MGH 6-12-1 WP Moehler (11-2) S John Wetteland (15)
Game #3: Gas Hornets continue to have hot hitting as they score 3 runs an inning 3 times in the one (1st, 2nd and 6th). Garrett Anderson must be going for POW – 2 hits, homer (6) and 5 more rbis! Matt Stairs also homers (15). Bombers get 3 in the 7th – Manny Ramirez drives in 2 with a double. But Bob Tewksbury got the start and lasted 2 – 7 hits, 6 runs.
VAL 4- 5-0 LP Tewksbury (4-1)
MGH 10-14-4 WP Tim Wakefield (12-2) 4 runs, only 1 earned as those errors were messy.
Game #4: 4th straight double digit hitting game for Manhattan – Garret Anderson 2 more! Derek Jeter (15), Jason Kendall (11), Tino Martinez (23) and Lenny Harris (7) homers – Harris for 3 runs as Gas Hornets win 8-4. Valdosta took the early lead with 2 in the 1st on a Manny Ramirez homer (34). John Thomson got the start – left in the 2nd inning giving up 5 hits, a walk and 5 runs. His replacement, Danny Patterson, homers (1) in the 3rd and pitches 5 innings. Not bad for a guy who had no at-bats in real life (and the generic card)!
VAL 4- 9-0 LP Thomson (4-5)
MGH 8-10-0 WP Rick Reed (8-5)
Game #5: Well the series was not all Manhattan. Team “ace” Matt Morris did not have much today as he gives up 5 runs in the 7 innings, but then Ricky Bones gives up 5 more in a 7 run 8th. Shane Reynolds got revenge for game 1 tossing a 2 run 6 hitter for 6.1 innings and the bullpen (including Tom Candiotti gave only 1 hit the rest of the way. Bobby Higginson homers (12) hits 2 doubles and drives in 4. Manny Ramirez clobbers another one (35), double and drives in 3 and Joe Randa drives in 2, scores 2 with 2 hits! OH – Garrett Anderson gets 2 more hits.
VAL 12-13-0 WP Reynolds (9-6)
MGH 2-7-0 LP Morris (6-5)
Game #6: Tightest game of the series but Sterling Hitchcock able to hang on after giving up 4 runs in the 1st 4 innings (2 unearned). Garrett Anderson only goes 1 for 3 (2 runs, rbi, double). Richie Sexson and Dave Berg get 2 hits for the Bombers and a rbi each. Gas Hornets plated 2 in the 4th to make it 5-4 and that was the end of the scoring. Dave Martinez drove in 3 for Manhattan with 2 hits.
