Series Preview: | An important series between two teams that are neck-and-neck in the wildcard race. |
Game #1: | Bonds breaks open a tight game with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 5th to give Castle Rock a 5-1 lead. But, Harper Woods explodes for 8 runs in the top of the 6th, as Mike DeJean implodes for the Hounds, giving up 8 runs, but ALL unearned. The teams trade blows after that, but Harper Woods comes out victorious with a 12-8 victory. Larry Walker led the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI, including a homer. Luis Gonzalez was 3-3 for Castle Rock with 2 homers in a losing cause.
WP: Pineda (1-0) |
Game #2: | Casey Blake is the clutch hitter for the Hounds in this one, as he delivers a 3-run shot to give Castle Rock a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 6th. Meanwhile, John Burkett is pitching a gem for the Hounds, going 8 innings without allowing a run. Castle Rock gets the shutout with a 6-0 victory. Luis Gonzalez goes 2-4 with 2 doubles.
WP: Burkett (11-4) |
Game #3: | Harper Woods jumps out to a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 8th, but the Hounds gets some timely hits and score 6 runs in the bottom half of that inning, including a 2-RBI double from Gonzalez, who again goes 2-4 with two doubles. WP: Bailey (2-0) |
Game #4: | Jermaine Dye gets to Kerry Wood with a two-out two-RBI double in the bottom of the 3rd to give Castle Rock an early 4-0 lead behind Pettitte. Andy is pitching a real good one, giving up just one run in 8 IP. The final is 7-1, Castle Rock as they are guaranteed at least a series split after winning three of the first four. The offensive hero is Dye, who went 3-4 with 3 RBI on 2 doubles.
WP: Pettitte (7-5) |
Game #5: | Larry Walker gives Harper Woods the 4-2 lead with a 3-run homer in the top of the 6th off of BJ Ryan. But Luis Gonzalez ties it up in the bottom half with a 2-run homer of his own. It is all tied up in the bottom of the 9th until Mark Bellhorn delivers a two-out walk-off double, scoring Michael Barrett from first to give the Hounds a 5-4 victory. Castle Rock outhit Harper Woods 10-3 in the game.
WP: DeJean (4-3) |
Game #6: | Harper Woods stakes a 3-0 lead in the top of the 5th, thanks to a Helton HR. But, Casey Blake gets back two runs in the bottom half with a HR of his own. Luis Gonzalez does the same in the bottom of the 6th to give a Castle Rock the 4-3 lead. In that same half inning, Walker and Larkin run into each other, and they are both lost to injury (Walker-5, Larkin-31, ouch). Bonds extends the lead with a solo shot and Dye adds a 2-RBI triple and it is now 7-3, Castle Rock. Bonds hits another HR in the 8th to make it 10-3. That is how it finishes.
WP: Burkett (12-4) |
