Fort Worth  Panthers @ Dondero Oaks

Series Preview: Division leading Fort Worth (49-26) heads to Dondero (21-53) to face rival and one of the worst teams in the league this year. The Panthers look to cushion their division lead by even more, coming in with a 12 game advantage.

Game #5: Fort Worth 7

S: T. Phelps (20)
Game #6: Fort Worth 10
Dondero 5
W: R. Ortiz (9-5)
L: P. Wilson (4-8)
Ejections: J. Colome
Series Summary: A bit of a wild series that as a whole was closer than the final results. Fort Worth does their job of taking 5 out of 6. Dondero kept it close in 4 of the 6 and managed to take 1. A bit of a one sided rivalry results wise but it appeared the Oaks took on the role of angry little brother hitting batters often late in the series. It resulted in 2 ejections in 3 games for Jesus Colome and multiple injuries for Fort Worth. This could get interesting with 2 more series to go this season between the two teams and as Dondero attempts to establish some sort of role in the league.

Valdosta  Bombers @ Danbury  Mad Hatters

Series Preview: 2nd place Valdosa visits 3rd place Danbury.
Series Summary: Valdosa take 3 of 5.

Blarney Drive Bandits @ Long Beach Titans

Series Summary: Blarney Drive takes 4 of 6 from Long Beach.

Hampton Huskies @ Flora-Bama Mullets

Series Preview: Flora-Bama looks to get things turned around against Hampton after going 3-8 against the other two NL East teams. Can Hampton stop a 8 game losing streak?
Game #1: Dreifort vs. Schilling
Lugo’s rbi double in 3rd gave the Huskies their first run and hit of the game. Hunter’s rbi single tied it in 4th. Schilling turned it over to the pen in the top of the 6th. Dreifort recorded two outs in the 6th and then the wheels fell off as he issued five straight walks to give the Mullets a 3-1 lead. Segui added an insurance run in the 8th. Sasaki got the final two outs in the 9th.
Flora-Bama 4-1
W – Stewart 1-0, L – Dreifort (1-10)
Game #2: Garcia vs. Leiter
Berkman and Piazza each went deep in the 1st. Mullets added another run on a Kennedy safety squeeze in the 2nd. Matthews solo put Hampton on the board in the 3rd. Berkman hit his second homer offer Garcia in 3rd. Huskies got a run back in 4th and loaded the bases to chase Leiter. Sasaki got Hairson to pop-up and avoid the big inning. In the 5th, Garcia avoided giving up a third homer to Berkman by intentionally beaming him. Berkman left the game with a sore elbow and Garcia was tossed. A double by Shinjo, triple by Hillenbrand and a sac fly tied it in the 6th. Hatterburg gunned his 3rd runner of the game in the 6th to keep things tight. Lee launched a three run jack off Zambrano to give the Huskies a 7-4 lead. Kennedy chipped away at the lead with a solo in 8th. In the bottom of the 9th, Kennedy and Segui singled and Sierra hitting in Berkman’s spot launched a three-run walk-off jack.
Flora-Bama 8-7
W – Burnett (9-5), L – Mahomes (1-3)
Game #3: Zito vs Person
Huskies got a walk and two singles in the 1st for one run. Piazza hit a two run homer in the bottom of the first. Huskies tied it in 2nd on a walk, a single and two sac flies. In the 5th, Berkman and Segui both went deep to make 4-2. Doubles by Rowand, Abernathy and Bell knocked out Zito in 6th and gave the Mullets a 7-2 lead.
Flora-Bama 7-2
W – Person (12-3), L – Zito (8-8)
Game #4: Hermanson vs Schilling
Mullets jumped to a 3-0 lead on five hits in the second inning. Perez hit a little league homerun in the 5th on a single and a misplayed ball by Matthews. Shinjo’s three run jack off Schilling in the 6th made it a one run game. Mesa replaced Schilling in the 7th and allowed an inherited runner to score when Drew doubled. Hermanson left the game in the 7th with runners on the corners and not outs. Mullets cracked five hits off the Huskies relief to take a 8-4 lead. Gutierrez solo in 8th was all the Huskies could manage. Sasaki closed out the 9th.
Flora-Bama 8-5
W – Mesa (3-3), L – Hermanson (3-9), S – Sasaki (12)
Game #5: Chen vs. Burnett
Burnett was wild in the 1st and Drew made him pay with a three run homer. Mullets got one back in the bottom of the 1st. In the 3rd, Flora-Bama loaded the bases and Juan Gone did what he does best hitting the grand slam. Juan added another run the 5th with an RBI single. Burnett yielded to the pen in the 6th who left two inherited runners on. More Gonzalez in the 7th as he drove in his 7th and 8th runs of the game on his fourth hit of the game. Mullets added two more in the 8th on the first rbis from someone not named Juan. Chiasson the final three inning for the save.
Flora-Bama 10-3
W – Burnett (10-5), L – Chen (3-9), S – Chiasson (2)
Game #6: Driefort vs Leiter
Piazza two run rbi double, Hunter rbi double and Sierra two run jack gave the Mullets a 5-0 lead in the first. Driefort left in the 2nd inning with two runners on. In the 4th, the Mullets added to their lead with Rbi doubles from Olerud and Segui. Leiter tossed six shutout innings. Mullets added three more in the 6th behind Kennedy rbi single. Chiasson pitched the final three inning for the save giving up just a solo homerun to Hatterberg.
W – Leiter (10-3), L – Driefort (1-11), S – Chiasson (3)
Series Summary: It seemed like the Huskies completely gave up after the soul crushing loss in game 2 and just started dreaming of future ping pong balls. They finished their NL East three series run with a 1-16 record and 14 straight losses. Juan Gonzalez set a Flora-Bama franchise record for RBIs (8) in one game that will be hard to ever beat. The Mullets offense smacked the Huskies pitching around for 43 runs in the final five games to complete the sweep.

Houghton Penguins @ Corktown Bootleggers

Series Preview: A.L. East opponents face off where the standings are much different than their last meeting.
Series Summary: Corktown wins the first 3 games convincingly and it looked like they were going to just roll over the Penguins, but Houghton fought back. They won the final 3 games to salvage a split. This is a very possible Divisional round playoff matchup which could be very interesting as Houghton matches up with Corktown.
3-3 Split.

Gladstone Gladiators @ Michigan Marauders

Series Preview: Two teams that are going in opposite directions faceoff. Gladstone vs. Michigan
Game #1: Sturtze vs. Clement

Guzman has a homer and 4 RBIs as Michigan’s lineup gets hot. Edmonds adds a homer and Matt Clement gets the win.

Gladstone 3 Michigan 1 (10)

Series Summary: Michigan surprises Gladstone by winning the first 3 games. Gladstone splits the series by taking 3 close games.

Harper Woods Expos @ Southlake Stealers

Series Preview: Harper Woods continues to build on the foundation they have established and will be a team to recon with for years to come in the MWWL. They look to add some play-off experience to the team this year as they come into Southlake 9-3 in their last 12 games.

Southlake continues to be a Jekyll and Hyde team, unsure if they are fighting for a WC spot or looking to join in next years lottery.

Game #1: Expos continue their hot streak as Mike Mussina is dominate in game one. He gives up just one run on 4 hits, 1 walk while striking out 7. Rincon closed the game to get his 12th save while lowering his era to 0.68.
Pat Hentgen took another tough loss. In his last five starts he has been tagged with 4 losses and 1 ND, despite never yielding more than 3 Earned Runs in any of those games.
Final Score HWE 3 SSS 1
WP: Mussina (7-4)
LP: Hentgen (3-5)
S: Rincon (12)
Game #2: Everything Mussina was in game 1, Stein wasn’t in game 2 for the Expos. He goes just 2.2 innings surrendering 6 runs as the Stealers bats dominate this day. They explode with 19 innings total in the game. Meanwhile Jimmy Haynes tossed a 7 hit complete game shutout for the home squad.

Final Sccore: Stealers 12 – Expos 0
WP: Haynes (4-4)
LP: Stein (5-3)

Game #3: Harper Woods puts the kabosh on Southlakes incredible record in 1 run games by taking game 3, with a score of 3-2. John Smoltz got the start of the Stealers but couldnt make it out of the second inning. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits early. That was all the runs the Expos needed as Jared Washburn would silence the bats that were so loud in game 2, going 6 strong innings.

The Stealers finally touched Rincon for a run in the 9th but couldnt find another run dropping their record to a still impressive 11-3 in one run games.

Final Score Expos 3-2
WP: Washburn (6-5)
LP: Smoltz (3-2)
S: Rincon (13)

Game #4: Disappointed in their one run loss last night, the Stealers returned the favor in game 4. Al Martin hit two bombs on the day accounting for all the Stealer runs. Hasegawa was a walkfest on the mound almost costing the home team the game, but Leskanic and Nen would shut the doors to bring home the victory.
Final Score Southlake 3 – Harper Woods2
WP: Leskanic (3-2)
LP: Christian (3-6)
S: Nen (10)
Game #5: Glover and White outduel Kerry Woods in game 5 to ensure at least a split in the series. Glover started and made it through 4.2 before turning the ball over to the lefty Gabe White who shut down the lefty dominate Expos as he picked up the victory. Nen would need to come in for the final two outs to secure the win.

Final Score SSS 4 – HWE 1
WP:White (3-1)
LP: Woods (7-4)

Game #6: Moose Mussina loves to throw against Southlake as he takes his second victory of the series in the finale. Adams got the unfortunate honor of facing the Expos’ Ace as he drops his 3rd game in a row and 4 of his last five. In those 4 losses the Stealers have scored 1 run or been shut out each time.

Final Score HWE 3 – SSS1
WP: Mussina (8-4)
LP: Adams (6-7)
S: Rincon (14)

Series Summary: In what turned out to be a pitchers series, the two teams split 3 games a piece. Mussina staked a claim for pitcher of the week with two wins. Harper Woods is now just 2.5 games out of first place in the Central, while Southlake remains in the basement but jut 4.0 games out of first and just 2 games back of the Wild Card spot.

Baltimore Blue Crabs @ Manhattan Gas Hornets

Series Preview: NL East beat up series this week features the Baltimore Blue Crabs and the Manhattan Gas Hornets from the Big Apple. Always lots at stake for the two teams fighting to remain close to Flora-Bama and the Wild Card spots…..
Game #1: After falling behind by a 3-0 margin through 4 1/2 innings, the Gas Hornets tie it in the bottom of the 5th. However, Baltimore regains the lead in the 6th on a Posada dinger (10). But then the gas flyers plated 5 runs in the 7th to take the opener 8-4! Wilson (12) also homers for Baltimore while Dave Martinez cracks his 1st and Josh Paul slugs his 4th. We did lose our best catcher for holding runners when Vance Wilson is beaned (23 days worth of injury….).
BAL 4- 9-1 LP Hudson (6-8)
MGH 8-10-0 WP Shaw (2-1)
Game #2: Baltimore jumps out to 3-0 lead in the 1st, then 2 more in the 4th but Gas Hornets draw close with 4 in the 4th and then tie it with another in the 5th. So it’s 5-5 after 5. Tim Wakefield comes in for the 8th and does well until he gives up game winning homer to Batista (6) in the 9th. Mike W. Stanton holds down the fort in the 9th for the save as Baltimore evens the series with the 6-5 win.
BAL 6-8-2 WP Cook (2-0) S Stanton (5)
MGH 5-8-0 LP Wakefield (6-3)
Game #3: Baltimore plates single runs in the 2nd and 3rd for a 2-0 lead before Manhattan scores 3 in the 5th, including a Garrett Anderson 2 run blast (13). Jeter drives in an insurance run in the 7th as Manhattan grabs the series lead with a 4-2 win.
BAL 2-6-0 LP Santos (1-1)
MGH 4-6-1 WP Reed (8-3) S Kim (11)
Game #4: Well this one was a big win for the Gas Hornets. 4 runs in the 1st and they never looked back. 13 runs on only 11 hits (4 walks) but Tino Martinez cracked 2 homers (5 rbis) and Anderson hit a solo homer (14). Down 13-1 in the 6th, the Blue Crabs score 3 runs – Posada with 2 rbis (2 hits), but way too little, too late.
BAL 4- 9-2 LP Johnson (8-4)
MBH 13-11-0 WP Sparks (7-3) S Maduro (1)
Game #5: Baltimore not happy with the previous outing so they score 3 in the 1st, 2 more in the 2nd and then 2 in the 4th for a quick 7-0 lead. Homers by Paul Wilson (13) and Chipper Jones (22) – Jones had 3 hits on the day – pace the early attack. Then Posada adds a 2 run shot (11) in the 9th to add insult to injury. Gas Hornets throw up a 3 spot in the 6th, but essentially threw up the game as the Manhattan ace is clobbered.
BAL 9-14-2 WP Williams (5-7)
MGH 3-7-0 LP Morris (8-6)
Game #6: Can the Gas Hornets recover to grab the series? Yes – and it’s Brandon Duckworth (5.1 ip) and 3 relievers that combine for an 8 hits shutout. And the 8 hits by Baltimore are 5 more than Manhattan gets, but the Gas Hornets get a solo homer from Durham (10) in the 4th and then a Henderson double and Stairs single in the 5th for a 2nd run. And that was it! Tim Hudson pitches a great game (8 ip, 3 hits, 8 ks, 2 runs) but go no support.
BAL 0-8-0 LP Hudson (6-9)
MGH 2-3-0 WP Duckworth (2-2) S Kim (12)
Series Summary: Exciting series with lots of good hitting and good pitching – not usually in the same game. Hard fought, there seems to be no one in the Baltimore lineup you can pitch around – so keep your fingers crossed. And player usage also factored into the Manhattan lineup! Are we trying to keep more players than we’ll be allowed???
