Castle Rock Hounds @ Portland Mavericks

Series Preview: Division battle as Castle Rock heads to Portland for 6.
Game #1: Castle Rock 3 Portland 0
W: S. Elarton 7-10
L: J. Santana 1-5
S: A. Benitez 19
Combined 3 hitter for Castle Rock as Elarton goes 7.2 strong. Mike Sweeney with 3 hits including a home run. 3 Portland doubles spread out over 9 innings.
Game #2: Castle Rock 8 Portland 2
W: A. Pettitte 14-6
L: D. Kile 9-12
Bonds hits number 50 with 3 RBI. Royce Clayton provides another home run. Pettitte goes 6 innings of 1 run ball and Portland never had a shot.
Game #3: Portland 7 Castle Rock 2
W: R. Person 8-7
L: J. Burkett 4-3
Bonds gets a double and 2 RBI as Castle Rock led 2-0 until the 5th. Eric Owens goes 4-5 and Raul Ibanez hits a 2 run shot. Person goes 7 innings with 2 unearned runs. Portland had 3 errors, 2 on Blanco alone.
Game #4: Castle Rock 6 Portland 5
W: D. Dreifort 14-7
L: M. Sirotka 8-7
S: A. Benitez 20
Castle Rock led most of the way but got a huge HR in the top of the 8th to go up 6-2 thanks to Luis Gonzalez. He had 3 RBI on the day. If it was not for the home run the 3 spot by Portland would’ve done the trick in the bottom half. Dreifort got tossed in the 6th for hitting Blum. Jose Valentin had a 1st inning HR for Portland but then had 2 errors later in the game. Portland had 3 total errors again.
Game #5: Castle Rock 8 Portland 1
W: K. Rogers 7-11
L: J. Santana 1-6
Bonds hits 51. Then 52. And 53. 3 HR and 5 RBI on the day and all that was needed was his 1st inning home run to win. Kenny Rogers throws a complete game giving up a solo shot to Blum in the 4th and only 4 total hits.
Game #6: Portland 6 Castle Rock 5
W: L. Pote 1-3
L: A. Benitez 3-9
BS: A. Benitez 7
Castle Rock was up 2-1 in the 6th when Luis Gonzalez hits a huge 3 run home run to break the game open 5-1. Kile finished the inning but was toast at that point. Portland gets 1 back in the bottom half on a ground out by Zeile. Benitez comes in the 8th and gets out without issue. 5-2 heading to the bottom of the 9th. Blum singles, Hunter strikes out, Kennedy walks, and this brings up Blanco. He ripped a 3 run bomb to tie the game 5-5. Benitez stays in with the game tied and gives up a base knock to Owens. Buford moves Owens to 2nd on a grounder. Castle Rock intentionally walks Will Clark. Wunsch comes in to replace Benitez and face Valentin. He walks him to load the bases up. Zeile hits a line drive single to win the game 6-5.The only game with any real excitement as Castle Rock controlled the series well.
Series Summary: Castle Rock comes into Portland and takes 4. The Kenny Rogers complete game is a huge highlight and Barry Bonds doing Barry Bonds things. 9/23 (.391) with 2 2B, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, 6 BB.

Chicago Demolition @ Southlake Scorpions

Series Preview: Demolition holding a 6 game lead in the AL Central travel to the cellar dwelling Southlake Scorpions looking to expand their lead.
Game #1: Jerry Reed said it best on the Theme Song to Smokey and The Bandit…
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done
Pedro on cruise control headed toward the Cy Young faces the Scorpions in Southlake.
In the bottom of the 1st Bichette lands a single and O’Leary a double to put two on with 2 outs. Defensive specialist Fabregas followed up with a double of his own to plate both runners. Young added a single to score Fabregas and just the first inning Pedro had been tagged for 3 runs.In the bottom of the third, Bagwell Walked, Bichette was hit by a pitch, and O’Leary welcomed Pedro to Southlake with a shot down the right field line that hugged the pole for a 6 to zip lead after 3.The demolition wouldnt stand by watching Pedro possibly lose only his second game of the year. They got to Holt with one in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th to cut the lead to 6-4. The damage in the 5th was limited thanks to Augilera coming out of the pen having been called up from the farm earlier in the week.Pedro was pulled after giving up a lead off walk in the bottom of the 7th. With Guerrero pinch running, he would eventually score on another O’Leary hit for his 4th RBI of the day. But it wouldnt end for the Scorpion bats that inning. Fabregas would add a Grand Slam in the inning to put the game away and ensure that Pedro would take his second loss of the season.Final: Scorpions 11 – Demolition 4
Game #2: The Demolition can always count on Clemens to stop any potential losing streak. He takes the mound in game 2 of the series against the Scorps.

The Demolition jumps to a 1-0 lead in the second on Renteria RBI hit. Scorpions tie it in the bottom of the third on a Wilton Guerrero Homer to Right Center Field. While the damage was limited in the third Clemens wouldnt be so fortunate in the 4th. He was pulled with two outs in the inning having given up 5 runs for a 6-1 Scorpions lead.

That was all the Scorpion starter Parque needed as he went 9 full innings giving up only 1 run on 4 hits. He gave up 6 freebies, but also shut the door with 7 strikeouts.

The Demolition have now lost two in a row to the Scorpions.

Game #3: Pedro Astocio gets lit up early in game three of the series. Giving up 7 innings while getting pulled in the 2nd inning having not gotten even an out yet in that inning. Van Poppel gave up two more over the next three innings making it 9-3 Demolition going into the bottom of the 4th.

Trailing 10-5 going into the bottom of the 8th, the Scorps added 2 to make the game a reasonable effort 10-7.

Entering the bottom of the 9th down 3 the Scorps were down to their last breath. A couple of singles sandwich between an out brought up Young, who singled home two runs making it a one run game.

With two outs Guerrero stole second and went to third on an infield single by Cairo. Sarge went to the bench pinch running Hunter for Cairo. With Mike Lansing at the plate, the double steal was put on. In a bang bang play at the plate, Guerrero got in safely knotting the game at 10 each.

The bullpens then went to work, each tossing shutout innings in the 10th and 11th. The Demo finally got to Shuey in the 12th with solo bombs by Renteria and Higginson.

In the bottom of the 12th the Scorps loaded the bases with 1 out, only to see Martin picked off first base. What the hell was he thinking???

The Demolition escaped what could have been a season changing loss in their 12-10 victory.

The two go at it again tomorrow.

Game #4: Garrett Stephenson shows why he is the ace of the staff. He goes 9 innings of scoreless baseball in a 8-0 Scorpion win over the Demolition.

Dante Bichette went 4-4 with 3 runs scored in the Dominating Victory.

Demolition called a players only meeting after the game and closed the clubhouse to the press.

Game #5: Demolition’s Millwood and Scorps Bottenfield went pitch for pitch through 6 before the Demolition got things rolling in the 7th. Having taken a 2-1 lead with 1 outs, the Demolition plated 4 more runs without the ball leaving the infield on a series of fielders choices, infield singles and swinging bunts.

That was all Chicago’s pitching staff needed to take the game 8-1.

Game #6: You probably are not going to beat Pedro Martinez in back to back games. You definitely wont if your pitching staff gives up 21 runs. With 4 bombs (Delgado,Christenson,Renteria,Pratt) and 5 RBIs by Becker the Demolition bats controlled this game from the start.

Martinez got his league leading 22 victory in the 21-4 route. The Scorps raised the white flag early.

Series Summary: The Demolition and Scorpions split as the scorps run out of gas after taking a 3-1 series lead. The Demolition will now ride a 2 game winning streak into their important 5 game series against Monroeville who is breathing down their neck for 1st place

DeWitt Tigers @ Corktown Bootleggers

Series Preview: Dewitt comes to Corktown for a divisional tango.

HAM 3-10-0 LP Eaton (8-8)
MGH 6-10-1 WP Anderson (10-9) S Williams (12)
Game #5: Hampton builds a 5-2 lead keyed by Daubach and his 2 hits, 3 rbis and homer (15). Zito was strong until the 8th when Manhattan gets to him for 2 homers – Kendall (13) and Cordero (3) in the 8th and they pull out a late 6-5 win. He gave up 5 hit, but also 4 walks.
HAM 5-13-1 LP Zito (7-7)
MGH 6- 6-0 WP Williams (3-4) S Wall (13)
Game #6: Opening week in college football and this one was a tight defensive game, 19-9. Oh wait, this was baseball. It was 4-3 Huskie after 4 but then Manhattan scores 10 times in the 5th and 6 more in the 6th! Other than that it would have been good for Hampton as they smack 4 homers, 10 hits, 9 runs. Stynes (12), Burnitz (29), Daubach (16) and Gutierrez (8) are the long ball hitters. Anderson (29) and Stairs (28) homer for Gas Hornets and 4 guys have 3 rbis.
HAM 9-10-1 LP Armas (1-9)
MGH 19-19-1 WP Kim (5-3) S Mantei (2)
Series Summary: 5 – 1 series win aided mostly by weak bullpen from Hampton. We go on the road next week for 3 weeks facing Baltimore, Hampton and Santa Rosa as the season draws near completion. Should be tough battle right to the end!!!

Connecticut Jays @ Valdosta Bombers

Series Preview: Last place Connecticut visits first place Valdosta in the laughably weak NL Central.
Series Summary: The Jays played very sloppily and still managed to take 5 of 6. Bombers bats went silent for the most part. With the lousy Bomber pitching that’s a bad combo.

Blarney Drive Bandits @ Hollywood Vampires

Series Summary: Blarney Drive sweeps Hollywood!
