| Game #1: | New Manager Same Results After hiring new Manager Sarge and bringing up Jimmy Haynes from the farm, the Scorpions still cant find any answers to their pitching problems losing to the Tigers 10-7.Haynes was strong through 7, yielding just 3 runs while striking out 8 as the Scorpions ran out to a commanding 7-3 lead. Then with the first two batters reaching base in the 8th the skipper went to John Rocker to shut the door. Unfortunately Rocker not only left the door open, he took it completely off the hinges yielding Back to Back to Back Homers, turning a 4 run lead into a one run deficit.Jones came up with the big 3 run homer to start the barrage against Rocker. He was joined in the bomber brigade by Andrews, Spiezio, and Beltre who had 3 RBIs of his own. Long continued his domination at the plate going 3 for 4 to raise his average to .373. |
| Game #2: | Dewitt Dominates Again 10-3 A 13 hit attack leads the Tigers to an easy 10-3 victory over the sinking Scorpions. Girardi (3-4, 3RBIs), Mora (3RBIs) and Cameron (3-6) paved the offense. Meanwhile Ponson cruised through 7 solid innings to pick up his 9th victory of the year.The Scorpions actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one, but starting pitcher Parque went down with an injury to start the 4th and the troubles began as pitching and defense collapsed. Van Poppel gave up 5 runs (only 2 earned) in recording just 2 outs while Aguilera failed to help the cause when called upon |
| Game #3: | Stephenson Silences Fireworks before the Holidays The fireworks that had been the Tiger bats were silenced by Scorpion ace Stephenson who scattered 3 hits across 6.2 innings to lead the basement dwellers past Dewitt 2-1. Jones was the only Tiger to get to Stephenson hitting a solo shot in the 7th. The Tigers could do no more damage as Rocker (0.1 inning) and Rivera (2 innings) closed out the game.The Scorpions didn’t fare much better against Milton who surrendered only 5 hits while going the distance. Luckily Davis was able to plate Bagwell with a two run dinger in the 6th to provide all the run support Stephenson needed. |
| Game #4: | It wouldn’t be the 4th of July without fireworks The Dewitt Tigers rocketed 13 runs via 13 hits, 8 BB and one hit batsman enroute to a commanding 13-7 victory. Starter Loaiza was ineffective giving up 5 runs on 8 its over 3.2 innings, but two homers by Vina with 6 RBIs staked the Tigers to plenty of offense. Henry picked up his first win of the year in relief.The Scorpions are basically holding open tryouts for pitching at this point Astacio couldn’t get past the 3rd inning giving up 5 runs including the first of Vina’s bombs. For the Scorpions,Bagwell’s 2-3 game with 2 RBI game got lost in the glow of the Tigers bats. |
| Game #5: | Fireworks don’t end just because the holidays are over as Dewit continues the bombage with another 13 hits in a 10-6 walk over the Scorpions. Beltre is going to miss the cozy confines of Southlake as he continues to haunt the Scorpions going 3-5 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs. Sosa joined the wave with a bomb of his own and 3 RBIs.
On the rubber Byrd was steady if not spectacular garnering his 3 win against no losses. His 7 strikeouts got him out of a few jams. Bagwell added 2 hits and 3 RBIs to bring his average over .300 on the season. When asked about the rumors that he has asked for a trade, Bagwell said “Ive got some good tread still on my tires and know I can contribute at a high level. It would be great to go out a winner. Hopefully, management can find a way to do that here in Southlake, but if the process means I have to finish my career elsewhere, I would not be opposed to that.” |
| Game #6: | Dewitt Cruises to easy 8-2 win In a rematch of the Series Opener Estes had an easy day of it this time. Staked with a 4-0 lead after the first half of the opening inning he scattered 4 hits while striking out 5 over 8 innings. His command continues to be off as he gave up 6 walks to the Scorpions. However, they were unable to do much with the free passes scoring individual runs in the 2nd and 4th innings.Jones again had a strong day at the plate going 3-5 with 2 more RBIs. When asked about the week Jones replied “I’ve always loved playing here. Southlake reminds me so much of my hometown in Curacao. I just see the ball really well here and the warm breezes take me back to a comfortable place at the plate.” |
