Southlake Scorpions @ Castle Rock Hounds

Series Preview: Southlake (7-15) visits Castle Rock (14-8) in an early season tilt.
Game #1: Chris Carpenter getting an early season spot start for Castle Rock so he can get his IP’s, facing off against Garrett Stephenson. Castle Rock strikes first with a 2-run Bonds HR. But, Southlake takes advantage of Carpenter, downgrading him to a 1 before he leaves in a 5-5 tie in the 6th.Desi Relaford (5 HR in 500 plate appearances in 2000) takes Wetteland deep to give Southlake a 7-5 lead.

But, JT Snow delivers a solo shot and Clayton scores on a wild pitch to tie it at 7-7 in the bottom of the 8th. Southlake gets one in the top of the 9th with a Mike Lansing RBI double. Rocker comes in for Southlake and proceeds to give up a leadoff HR to Bonds to tie it at 8-8. Despite getting another runner to second, Castle Rock can’t score another one, andwe head to extra innings.

Southlake loads the bases in the top of the 10th,but Dejean gets Lansing to ground out to end the threat. And, with two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Luis Gonzalez takes Aguilera for a walk-off Hounds victory, 9-8. Bonds has two HR, Snow goes 4-5 and Gonzalez delivers the walk-off for Castle Rock.

WP: Dejean (1-1)
LP: Aguilera (0-1)

Game #2: It’s another back-and-forth affair, with Elarton (Castle Rock) facing Reynoso (Southlake). It is 3-2 until the Hounds score four in the bottom of the 5th, spearheaded by a Luis Gonzalez HR, putting the Hounds up 6-3. And, that’s how the score will stay, as Elarton gets a quality start and Benitez comes on to finish. Bichette and Lansing go deep for Southlake, while Gonzalez and Easley go yard for Castle Rock.

WP: Elarton (1-3)
LP: Reynoso (1-4)
S: Benitez (3)

Game #3: Hounds jump quickly on Haynes, with Luis Gonzalez (Player of the week?) hitting a 3-run HR in the first inning. But, the Scorpions plate three in the top of the 2nd to cut the lead to 4-3, Hounds. Scorpions take the lead 6-3 thanks to a Bagwell HR and four doubles off Kenny Rogers. But, the Hounds will not be muzzled, as they take a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the 5th thanks to a 2-RBI double from (you guessed it) Luis Gonzalez.

Bichette gets Southlake right back in it with a two-run homer to make it 9-8, and it looks like we have another crazy game on our hands. Relaford singles home pinch-runner Hunter, and it is 9-9 in the top of the 7th. Kevin Young then delivers a clutch bases loadesd single to give the Scorpions a 11-9 lead.

Bonds and Gonzalez lead off the bottom of the 8th with a walk and HBP. Mariano Rivera comes in and Dye greets him with a single to load the bases with nobody out. Sweeney delivers a sac fly, Easley strikes out, but Royce Clayton delivers a clutch 2-out double, scoring two and giving Castle Rock the 12-11 lead. Lockhart follows it up with an RBI single, scoring Clayton.

Ultimately it’s a heartbreaker for Southlake, as they get 18 hits, but still lose the game, as Wunsch stays on to close it out for Castle Rock. The final is 13-11, Hounds. Gonzalez ends up with 5 RBI for Castle Rock.

WP: Wunsch (2-0)
LP: Rivera (1-2)

Game #4: Hounds bats will not be silenced, as they chase Jaret Wright in the first inning after batting around and scoring 5 runs on 6 hits. The onslaught continues throughout the whole game, with Castle Rock scoring 15 runs on 23 hits in the game. Both Gonzalez and Bonds go 4-6 in the game for the Hounds, and Brian Johnson hits two solo shots out of the 9-hole for the Scorpions. The final is 15-4, Castle Rock, as they take the first four games of the series. Dreifort moves to 5-0 on the season, although his run support has been astronomical.

WP: Dreifort (5-0)
LP:Wright (0-2)

Game #5: Southlake strikes first in this one, with two in the first inning, off of a Michael Barrett error. But, if we’ve learned anything this series, no lead is safe vs. Castle Rock, as they score 5 runs in the 2nd, highlighted by a three-run HR from JT Snow. The Hounds add six (!) more in the 3rd to take a 11-2 lead. The game ends up 13-2, as the Hounds get 17 more hits, highlighted by three from Clayton and Orlando Palmeiro.

WP: Pettitte (4-1)
LP: Holt (0-3)

Game #6: Castle Rock going for the 6-game sweep while Southlake is looking to salvage something.

Southlake again strikes first with two off of Carpenter in the first, thanks to a Bagwell double. Castle Rock ties it in the 2nd, but Bagwell delivers a solo HR in the 5th to give the Scorpions a 3-2 lead. But, Castle Rock scores two in the bottom half to take a 4-3 lead.

Al Martin delivers a sac fly to score Hunter in the top of the 8th, and we have a 4-4 tie. Southlake is battling hard to get a W. In the bottom of the 8th, Rocker gives up a walk and a single, but Rivera puts out the fire to keep the game tied at 4. In the top of the 9th, Lansing greets Armando Benitez with a lead-off HR.

With two outs in the 9th, Rivera hits JT Snow to let Bonds come up to bat with a chance to win it. But, Mo gets Bonds to ground out to short to end the game and the Scorpions win the series finale, 5-4.

WP: Rivera (2-2)
LP: Benitez (2-2)

Series Summary: Castle Rock’s bats were just too much for Southlake pitching for most of the series, as the Hounds take it 5-1.

Hollywood Vampires @ Hampton Huskies

Series Preview: Hollywood and Hampton meet up for a showdown of the two worst records in the league. Not even their moms showed up to watch these games …

Game #4: Hampton won three straight games for the first time this season thanks to Brian Daubach who drove in three runs with a single and his 2nd home run in a 5-2 win. Randy Velarde paced the Hollywood attack with two innocuous singles against Pat Mahomes who incredibly is 3-0 on this shitty team after tossing a five-hit complete game.

Game #6: The teams combined for six runs in the 10th inning, but it was the visiting team that had the lion’s share beating up on the Huskies’ bullpen in a 8-6 extra-inning win.
