Then Matt Mantei hits Richard Hidalgo in the head and he will miss the next 2 days. | Game #2: | Santa Rosa wastes no time in this one, scoring in the 1st, but Manhattan doubles them up in the 1st then 2 more in the 2nd and Damian Jackson homer (1) in the 3rd ends Brian Bohanon’s day. 2 Beach Bums runs in the 4th make thing tight, but the pitchers from both sides shut down the rest of the action from there on out. | Game #3: | Gas Hornets break the game open with 4 runs in the 3rd keyed by a Ray Durham 2 run homer (2). Then the Beach Bums tie it up with 2 in the 4th and 2 in the 6th to end the day for John Halama. Juan Encarncion leads the Santa Rosa attack with 2 doubles and a single, Reggie Sanders gets 2 singles. But Derek Jeter homers for 2 runs in the 7th off Alex Fernandez and in spite of an exciting 9th by Santa Rosa, the Gas Hornets hang on. | Game #4: | Santa Rosa goes up 1 in the 2nd but Manhattan drives in 3 in the 5th. But it’s not enough to keep the Bums down as they tie it up with 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th. Then they take the lead in the 9th on 2 steals by Roberto Alomar. Then Sasaki, who has been nailing down the Gas Hornets gives up a 2 out tying homer to Derek Jeter (3) and we go to extra innings. Goose eggs for 4 and then in the 14th Reggie Sanders scores after a triple. But the Gas Hornets work on Hector Carrasco in the bottom half, loading the bases before Wil Cordero pops out to end the game and Santa Rosa gets the win 6-5 in 14 innings. Manhattan cuts it to 4-3 in the 7th and then scores 4 in the 7th for a 7-4 lead. Good thing because Ken Caminiti hits a 2 run PH double in the 9th but Mike Fyhrie finally gets the final out. | Game #2: | Down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 9th, Blarney explodes for a walk-off 3-spot. Kim just did not have it for Winnipeg in the final frame. Goldeyes were very efficient scoring all their runs on just 3 hits.

| Series Preview: | After some technical difficulties and a great save from Bill Schindel, the Hounds were ready to host their first home series of the season. They welcome in Fort Worth, who is coming off of a 1-4 start to their season. |
| Game #1: | Fort Worth strikes first with a Timo Perez double and a Pudge Rodriguez homer in the first. Despite Kevin Brown being on the mound for Fort Worth, Castle Rock strikes right back with a Jermaine Dye two-run shot in the bottom of the 1st. Timo Perez is lost for 40 games in the 3rd inning….tough blow for Fort Worth. Easley gets knocked out for five games for Castle Rock and Fort Worth continues to pile on Castle Rock, taking a 6-2 lead.
This Hounds lineup can’t be held down, however. They scratch their way back to tie it at 6-6 thanks to an Einar Diaz double in the bottom of the 6th. Brown stays in for Fort Worth into the 8th, and Placido Polanco delivers a clutch two-out double to give the home team an 8-6 lead. Armando Benitez (22 with a W) comes in to try to close it out. He walks the bases loaded with two outs and Doug Glanville delivers a clutch 2-RBI single for Fort Worth to tie it at 8-8. In the bottom of the 9th, Peter Bergeron throws out Jermaine Dye at the plate, as he was trying to score on a Sweeney double, and it is still 8-8 as we head to extra innings. After a 1-2-3 top of the 10th, Castle Rock gets the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, and Bonds steps to the plate. In a somewhat anti-climactic finish, Sauerbeck walks home the winning run as Bonds trots to first with a walk-off walk. The final is 9-8 in a real barn-burner of a home opener. Polanco goes 5-5 and Dye 3-4 for Castle Rock. Tough loss for Fort Worth, as they get 13 hits, but are downed by two errors. WP: Benitez (1-0) |
| Game #2: | Ortiz vs Pettitte in Game 2. Fort Worth again jumps out to an early lead off of a Sprague HR. But, man this Hounds offense is going to be fun to play with. They score 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th, highlighted by a three-run homer from Dye, to take a 7-3 lead. The Hounds continue to pile it on, not letting up at all. Bonds goes 4-5, and the hounds smack four homers. The final is 11-3.

| Game #3: | Fort Worth jumps out to the early lead in this one, and they are able to hold onto it. Despite Castle Rock loading the bases down one in the bottom of the 9th, the Panthers are able to get a double play at home to first and hold on for the 7-6 victory.

| Game #4: | Another thriller in Castle Rock. The Hounds were down 4-0 going into the bottom of the 8th, but Bonds hits three run homers in back-to-back innings, including a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 9th as the Hounds take it 6-4.

| Game #5: | This one is a blowout for the Hounds, as the bats continue to be hot. The final is 11-3, Castle Rock. Sweeney and Einar Diaz each have 3 RBI in the victory and Burkett gets the win for the Hounds.

| Game #6: | In a totally uncharacteristic game for this series, Bonds walks it off (AGAIN!) with a homer. But, this HR made it a 1-0 victory as Dreifort and Westbrook battled it out in a pitcher’s duel.
