California Quakes @ Chicago Demolition

Series Preview: 29 – 17 The California Quakes from the A.L. West come into the Windy City of Chicago to take on the Demolition for a 6-game series.
Game #1: 3 Errors in the 1st Inning put Chicago in a hole early & down 2-0 before they batted. However, they knocked in 4 in the 1st themselves & that was the only scoring of the game. Jeff Cirillo‘s 3 -Run Home Run did most of the damage.

Game #2: This one was a low-scoring affair. Chicago didn’t even get on the board. Went 10 Innings before Rust Greer knocks a single scoring Luis Castillo.

Houghton Penguins @ Castle Rock Hounds

Series Preview: Castle Rock finds itself in 3rd place in their division, but still within reach of 2nd place, California. Houghton has struggled early on, and the Hounds will be looking to take a few games at home.
Game #1: Castle Rock is behind the whole game until the bottom of the 9th, when Butch Huskey delivers a two-out, bases loaded double to score three runs and give the Hounds the 5-4 victory. Reuter pitched really well for Houghton, but Dotel couldn’t hold on for the save.

Game #2: Castle Rock jumps all over Willie Blair and races to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. They don’t look back, although Houghton tries to make it interesting. The final is 6-4, Hounds.

Game #3: Castle Rock smashes four homers, including a 3-run shot by Mike Sweeney to take this one , 6-3. The Hounds are feasting on some lower grade Houghton starters. Sweeney has two homers on the day.

Game #4: Houghton runs out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring 2 in the first and 2 in the second. But, Castle Rock hangs in there and scores 3 in the sixth and 4 in the 7th, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back homers from Sweeney, Huskey and Dye to take the game 8-5, and guarantee a series win.

Game #5: Houghton finally manages a victory, although they almost lost it. The visitors jumped out to a 7-3 lead, and hold on to win 8-7, after getting Easley to ground into a game-ending double play. Castle Rock commits three errors, which leads to SIX unearned runs, which costs them the game.

Game #6: The Houghton bats continue to heat up as they take the series finale, 8-5. Lawton and Fryman homered for the Penguins who posted 10 hits on the day.

Manhattan Gas Hornets @ Valdosta Bombers

Game #1: Valdosta 7-6. Bombers scored early and often and held off an angry Hornets team in the 9th, as Manhattan scored 4 in the 9th. John Franco recorded the final out for his 6th of the year. Ray Durham had a big day for the Hornets, going 4-4, with 2 doubles and a 9th inning grand slam.
Game #2: Valdosta 7-4. Hornets bullpen imploded as the Bombers score 5 in the 8th off of Charlton and Wetteland. Franco notched his 7th save. Bad news for the Bombers though as Manny joins the ranks of the injured.
Game #3: Valdosta 5-2. Pat Hentgen (3-4, 8.21) finally had a solid start as he went the distance for the win. Steve Finley hit his 14th HR.
Game #4: Manhattan 3-1. Garrett Anderson homered twice (10) to lead the Hornets attack.
Game #5: Manhattan 12-2. Mike Fyhire (who?) scattered 10 hits in a CG to improve to 4-2. Lenny Harris had a nice game for the visitors, going 4-4 with 3 runs scored.
Game #6: Manhattan 6-3. The Hornets bullpen turned in 3 shutout innings to preserve the win for Pete Schourek (1-1).
Series Summary: So it was a tale of 2 series as both teams managed to win 3 in a row and end up with a 3-3 split.

Corktown Bootleggers @ Stockton Wings

STO starter Brian Cooper struggled but left with a lead that the bullpen couldn’t hold. Jason Giambi made the difference for CBL, going 2-4 with three RBI.

HR: STO–Glaus, Trammell, V. Guerrero, J. Jones (GS)

STO offense took over late in the game. Vladimir Guerrero went 4-5, scored three runs and drove in two, but the big blow was a Jacque Jones grand slam. The Wings’ first three runs were scored in the 1st inning on three straight bases-loaded wild pitches and a passed ball.

Another good offensive day for STO, as four players had multi-hit games. Vladimir Guerrero had a HR in his third straight game.

Joe Mays dominated, giving up only two hits and a run (on a Jose Hernandez solo shot) over seven innings. Three CBL hitters (Alex Rodriguez, Albert Belle, and Brian Jordan) had three RBI each.

STO had a 10-0 lead, but had to hold on as CBL scored ten runs in the last four innings, including three in the 9th.

Albert Belle was the big bat for CBL, going 3-5, with a HR, three RBI and two runs scored.

Series Summary: CBL and STO split

Vladimir Guerrero had four homers in the series, and he and Troy Glaus homered in all three STO wins.

Vladdy hit .461 (12-26) for the series, with 9 runs, 8 RBI, a double, and a triple to go with his four dingers. Glaus hit .316 (6-19), with a double, 7 runs and 6 RBI.

Uqueth Urbina had two Saves for CBL.

Albert Belle hit .292 (7-24) with 2 HRs, 5 runs 9 RBI and a double in the series for CBL.

Baltimore Blue Crabs @ Blarney Drive Bandits

Series Preview: Crabs take on the Bandits for 6.
Game #1: Wind was up and blowing out. Teams combine for 8 HRs (3 for Baltimore and 5 for Blarney). Starting pitchers were both roughed up as a 20 run 23 hit day will do.

Game #3: Bandits take another 1-run affair. Game was nearly a dead heat in all categories.

Game #4: Crabs score 5 in the 2nd while Hudson and Co. throw darts. Casey and Jones both 4-5.

Game #5: Outhit 12-9 the Crabs made up for it by coaxing 10 walks. Benes, a Z, somehow walks 8 in 4.2 innings. Teams combine to strand 21 runners so the fans were entertained.

Game #6: The Big Unit was back on form aloowing just 2 hits over going 7 frames. Farnsworth imploded in the 5th allowing 4 runs.

Series Summary: Bandits take 4 of 6 but it could have easily tipped Baltimore’s way.

Hampton Huskies @ Newark Bears

Series Preview: The first place Bears host the last place Huskies.
