Series Summary: After Long Beach won the first game, Santa Rosa took the next 5.

Hampton Huskies @ Valdosta Bombers

Series Preview: The Valdosta Bombers and their crazy high batting averages roll into Hampton for six games against the sadsack Huskies who try to get on track for the season.
Game #1: Manny Ramirez and his baggy pants and saggy ass barrelled into Scott Hatteberg in the top of the 12th, grabbed the ball out of Hatty’s glove and threw it into the crowd which watched in horror as the scorers ruled it an error on the catcher and that proved to be the game-winner for Valdosta 5-4.
Eric Karros led the way for the Bombers with two hits including a double and had two RBIs. BJ Surhoff had two singles and a double for the Huskies.
Each team had a player knocked out of action for the series. Mark Grudzielanek was hit by Hampton starter Rolando Arrojo early in the game while for Hampton Scott Radinsky notched the prerequisite team injury as his shoulder gave out.
Game #2: The Hampton Huskies rallied for six runs in the 5th inning to even the series with a 9-3 win.
The Bombers were the beneficiaries of a downright putrid start by Joe Nathan (better days will come for you in the pen, Joe – just wait) who was pulled after seven outs but not before he had given up three runs on two hits and five walks (with no Ks).
Henry Rodriguez homered and drove in two for Hampton while Dave Berg was 2/2 with an RBI for Valdosta.
Game #3: Hampton’s offense continued to hit in overdrive churning out 19 base hits in a 15-4 pummelling of the Bombers.
All nine Hampton batters had at least one hit with Henry Rodriguez leading the charge with four hits including a homer and four RBIs. Greg Vaughn also was productive smacking two mammoth home runs and driving in four runs while Jeromy Burnitz had three hits, scored three times and drove in three runs.
Warren Morris had a homer and a single and drove in two runs for Valdosta.
Game #4: Another extra-inning game and another extra-inning win for Valdosta which won 3-2 in the 13th inning on Steve Finley‘s sac fly.
The run came against completely out of gas reliever Danny Graves who was working in his 4th inning with no one left in the pen.
Pitching dominated the game with both teams having six hits each. Joe Randa had two of those hits for Valdosta to bring his average to a ludicrous .390.
Game #5: Valdosta finally wins one in a normal nine-inning game as they smacked around Hampton pitching for 17 hits in a 9-7 win.
A Greg Vaughn 3-run homer for Hampton in the 6th inning momentarily made this game close at 5-4 but then TJ Mathews and Joe Nathan fell apart in relief to allow the Bombers to score 2 runs in each of the 7th and 8th innings to bring in the win.
Bobby Abreu and catcher Joe Flaherty each had three hits for Valdosta as did Bill Mueller for Hampton in his first game back after a series of one-week injuries plagued the 3rd baseman.
Game #6: eromy Burnitz and Henry Rodriguez homered in the early going for Hampton spotting the Huskies to a 5-0 lead but the Bombers chipped away at starter Rolando Arrojo until it was 5-4.
The Hampton pen was stingy though and blanked the Bombers for the final two innings to preserve the victory.
Manny Ramirez had two hits including a homer and drove in two in a losing effort for the Bombers.
Series Summary: A series split as Hampton finally is able to field a reasonably healthy lineup in the final few games against a pretty darned good Valdosta team.
