| Series Preview: | Fort Worth just delivered a smackdown of Castle Rock when the two teams met in Texas last week. Castle Rock doesn’t want to be limping into the playoffs and wants to see if they can gain any respect from the Panthers. |
| Game #1: | It’s a tight one early, as Castle Rock ties it 2-2 on a Darren Bragg homer in the 5th. Michael Barrett doubles that score to 4-2 with a 2-run shot of his own. Kenny Rogers gets a quality start for the Hounds, going 6.1 and allowing 3 runs. It’s 4-3 after seven, and we see what the bullpens can do. Rondell White hits a solo shot off of Elarton to tie it at 4-4 in the top of the 8th. Simas gets out of a jam in the top of the 9th by getting Roberto Kelly to fly out with 1st and 3rd. Rondell White plays the hero again in the top of the 11th as he delivers a 2-RBI double to make it 6-4. Armando Benitez walks in another run and it is 7-4 heading into the bottom of the 10th, and that’s the final.

| Game #2: | Castle Rock jumps out to huge first-inning lead and Nomo gets pulled after only .1 IP and 7 runs. Castle Rock doesn’t let up, as they win by a 14-4 mark. The Hounds had 17 hits, including two homers from Luis Gonzalez and a homer each from the 7-8-9 hitters, Luke, Widger and Clayton.

| Game #3: | Kevin Brown takes the mound for Fort Worth, looking for his 27th victory. Bonds greets him rudely with a leadoff HR in the bottom of the 1st and Andy Sheets tacks on a 2-run shot in the third to make it 3-0. Bohanon hasn’t given up a hit until Roberto Kelly gets a single and Sean Berry follows it up with a homer to make it 3-2 in the top of the 5th. McGriff ties it up on a sac fly in the 6th and we have a new ballgame. It is 3-3 as we enter the bottom of the 8th, and Brown is pulled. So, he won’t be getting that 27th win this week. Mike Sweeney and Andy Sheets greet the reliever, Dave Veres, with back-to-back solo shots, as Castle Rock takes the 4-3 lead. The final ends up being 6-4, as Castle Rock shows it can hang with the Panthers.

| Game #4: | Roberto Kelly and Sheffield hit homers to stake Fort Worth to a 3-0 lead. Pudge tacks on two more with a homer to make it 5-1 in the 6th.This one was never close, as Fort Worth evens up the series at 2-2, by winning 8-3.

| Game #5: | Rubber match sees Pettitte face off against Bergman. It’s a back-and-forth affair, with Easley tying things up at 3-3 in the bottom of the 7th. Fort Worth adds two in the top of the 8th. Fort Worth brings in Jackson to try to close it out….Gonzalez walks to lead off and Snow hits a double. It is 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Jackson then strikes out three in a row: Tatis, Easley and Bragg to close it out.

| Game #3: | The Big Unit allowed just 3 hits over 7 frames but the 6 walks he issued kept defense on its toes. Bandit bats struck early again with 3 in the 1st. The home town squad would bookend another 3 in the 8th. 27 innings in and Winnipeg has only mustered 2 runs, the other shoe has to drop, right?

| Game #4: | And there’s the other shoe. Winnipeg clips Hampton for 4 oi the 1st and 2 in the 2nd sending him to the showers early. It was all Goldeyes as O’Neill (2-4 3 RBI), Lofton (4-5 2 RBI, Ventura 3-run bomb) powered the visitors. Benes turned in a 4 hit 2 run day over 7 full.

| Game #5: | This was a big game for the Bandits and they score two quick ones in the first off Thompson. Winnipeg wouldn’t score until the 7th and through 7 full it was 2-1 Blarney. The Bandit pen just plain sucked, and defense committed 2 errors, the last two innings as Goldeyes score 2 in the 8th and 9th to crush any hopes of 4 W’s.

| Game #3: | Not much of a contest as Gas Hornets erupt for 6 in the 2nd, up by 10-0 after 3 and coasted to a 15-2 win. And Jon Vanderwal crashes the boards (I mean the LF wall) and will miss the rest of the season. Brian Moehler has a great day. Biggest issue – Manhattan almost has a many walks (11) as they did hits (15)! Mike Oquist came on to relieve Javier Vazquez and took one for the team (4.1 ip, 7 hits, 7 runs and 10 WALKS – OUCH).
