| Series Preview: | West coast meets east coast as the jet-lagged Titans of Long Beach face the Hampton Huskies for six games. |
| Game #1: | The Huskies come back from a 4-0 shortfall to take the game 5-4 courtesy of homers by Greg Vaughn and Ricky Gutierrez. Jeffrey Hammonds was 2/2 with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base for Long Beach. |
| Game #2: | Long Beach once again jumped on the Hampton starting pitcher (Rolando Arroyo this time) for a 4-0 but this time there was no offense to save him as the Titans cruised to a 4-1 win. Francisco Cordova was firing on cylinders on the mound for Long Beach as he gave up just one unearned run on two hits over 7.2 innings without walking any and striking out five as he improved to 4-3 on the year. Andy Fox led the Titans’ attach with two doubles and two RBIs. Henry Rodriguez got both hits – a single and a double – for Hampton. |
| Game #3: | Jeromy Burnitz had three hits including a home run as the Huskies bounced back and downed the Titans 10-1 in a 17-hit attack. Henry Rodriguez also homered for the Huskies with Greg Vaughn and Bill Mueller adding a trio of hits. Shawon Dunston singled home Greg Norton in the 1st inning for the Titans’ only scoring. |
| Game #4: | Tim Belcher overcame a shaky start to win for the second time in the series as he tossed eight innings in a 5-2 Hampton win. Jeromy Burnitz doubled and added two singles to bring home two runs and lead the Huskies’ offense. Jeffrey Hammonds and Glenallen Hill brought home the runs with singles in the 2nd and 3rd innings for Long Beach. |
| Game #5: | Carl Pavano was solid but did not need to be as the Huskies scored five times in each of the 3rd and 4th innings in a 12-4 win over the Titans. Jeremy Burnitz homered twice and drove in five runs while Derrek Lee came out of nowhere to smack two dingers of his own and drive in three runs. Sad news for Titans’ fans though as Jose Vidro was hit in the head by a pitch from Pavano and knocked out of action for 3 weeks. |
| Game #6: | Long Beach may have whimpered through the series until now, but it was the Huskies pitching that did the whimpering in this one as the Titans led by Andy Fox‘s three hits crushed the Huskies 10-4. The success for Fox came with a price though as he was struck in the hand by a Rich Loiselle pitch and will be sidelined for 8 days. Only Glenallen Hill failed to get a hit for the Titans in this one while Fox and Brad Fullmer each had three (Fullmer doubled twice). |
| Series Summary: | Hampton takes 4 of 6 … strangely I don’t believe Long Beach hit a home run in the series. Lots and lots of doubles though. |

| Game #2: | Tony Graffanino‘s solo home run in the bottom of the 8th ties the game at 2. Cal Ripken‘s SAC fly scores Castilla with the go-ahead run in the 9th for Michigan. But the Crabs battle back again, with a Chipper Jones solo home run in the bottom of the 9th to tie it up again. Unfortunately for the hometown fans, Rafael Palmeiro‘s solo home run in the 11th wins it for the Mauraders.

| Game #3: | Vinny Castilla smacks a 3 run 1st inning homerun to stake Michigan to an early 3-0 lead. Crabs strike back in the bottom half of the 1st with 5 runs off Maurader starter Kevin Tapani, capped by a Posada 2 run HR. But after that it was all Michigan who, with 3 in the 4th and 6 in the 5th, cruise to a 13-5 victory. Palmeiro had 4 hits and Brady Anderson had a Grand Slam, but it was Castilla with the biggest day, going 4 for 5 with 3 and 6 RBIs.

| Game #4: | Livan Hernandez tosses a 4 hit complete game and Palmeiro has 2 more hits, 3 RBIs, and homerun #15 to lead Michigan’s 5-1 victory.

| Game #5: | Michigan strikes for 3 runs in the 3rd, and that would be all Michigan would need. A Tony Batista pinch hit 2 run home run in the bottom of the 9th off Ligtenberg made it close, but it wasn’t enough.

| Game #6: | Michigan roughed up Baltimore starter Joey Hamilton for 6 runs and 8 hits over the game’s first inning and a third, and that’s all the scoring in the game, as the Crab bullpen keeps Michigan from inflicting further damage, but the Baltimore bats were unable to get a run across. Palmeiro and Castilla each homered again for Michigan. Mark Garder tossed 7 shut-out innings to earn his 5th victory.

Kurt Abbott 4 hits, 4 RBIs, Mike Piazza 3 hits, 3 runs, 1 rbi, homer (9) two others with 3 hits each as the Bears come across the river (must have snuck in at night) and sucker-punched the Gas Hornets to the tune of 16-2 as LaTroy Hawkins was trying to get some innings in. Jeff Fassero (5-2) goes 7 strong – 6 hits, 2 runs (1 earned). |
| Game #2: | So after giving up 16 runs and 18 hits in game 1, Manhattan reduces the number of hits by the Bears in half (9) and runs went way down – 2! Gas Hornets only get 4 hits in this game but manage to score 3 times for a 3-2 win! Jose Canseco homers (6) for the Bears. Matt Morris goes 7 for the win (4-1) while Chuck Finley (1-3) gets the loss. |
| Game #3: | Another 1 run contest which was standing at 5-4 going into the 8th when Newark ties it up when Ricardo Rincon gives up the tying homer Juan Gonzalez (12). But the Gas Hornets get it back in the bottom half of Chuck McElroy (L 2-2) to win 6-5. Rincon (3-0) got the win after the homer and John Wetteland (9) picked up the save. |
| Game #4: | Sterling Hitchcock tosses a 1 hitter (PITCHER OF THE WEEK CANDIDATE) with 1 walk and 11 Ks as the Manhattan blanks the Bears 5-0. Ray Durham (8) and Matt Stairs (5) homer for the good guys! |
| Game #5: | Rick Reed learns from Hitchcock and he too blanks the Bears. Not quite as impressive, but close, a 5 hitter with 8 Ks. Ray Durham again bops one out (9) in a 2 run 4th. Al Leiter was pretty good too, with 6 innings 4 hits, 2 runs in a low-scoring 2-0 game won by Manhattan. |
| Game #6: | It’s time for Newark to retreat across the river, but the fired a few salvos in this one including 2 Ben Grieve homers (1,2) – both solo shots. That would have been enough Jeff Fassero (6-2) goes 7 giving up 4 hits and 1 run – all the Gas Hornets could get (Tino Martinez homer #13). Newark wanted some insurance so they scored 2 more runs to win the finale 4-1. Fassero made sure he’d have it easy when he hits Derek Jeter in the 1st inning and knocks him out of the game (3 days’ worth of injury). |
| Series Summary: | Newark wins the bookends, Manhattan takes the series 4 games to 2. Newark goes home to host the red-hot Hampton Huskies who are creeping up big time on the Gas Hornets lead in the NL East. Manhattan goes to Valdosta. |

| Game #1: | Maddux and Rogers face off in what should be a pitcher’s duel. Rogers apparently didn’t get the memo, as he gets tagged for 10 runs in 5.1 IP (only 4 earned). Meanwhile, Maddux cruises through 7 IP, allowing just two hits and 0 runs. The Final is 10-1, Flossmoor. Gant delivers two homers on the day.

| Game #2: | The “tired bug” hits both teams, as a bunch of players go from fine to T overnight. It’s another good pitching match-up, Cone vs. Carpenter. Again, doesn’t really go according to plan. Hounds have a two-run lead in the bottom of the 8th, but Geoff Jenkins hits a 2-out, 3-run homer off of Benitez to take the 6-5 lead. Olson comes on for the save and Flossmoor takes a 2-0 series lead.

| Game #3: | Castle Rock jumps out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning thanks to homers from Bonds and Huskey. And, they don’t look back as they score 10 runs on 17 hits, including 3 homers.

| Game #4: | Flying Squirrels take a 6-2 lead into the 9th inning and hold off the Hounds to take the victory. Key is used to close the game, which seemed like an odd managerial move. But, it was effective.

| Game #5: | Maddux pitching for Flossmoor on short rest, and he gets the job done. It is 3-3 going into the bottom of the 8th, but back-to-back doubles from Bagwell and Bichette get the job done for Flossmoor and they take the 4-3 lead and Maddux pitches a CG.

| Game #6: | The Hounds start off the game with back-to-back homers from Bonds and Luis Gonzalez and don’t look back. Gonzalez adds another and Easley joins him, as the Hounds lead 4-0 on four solo homers. Shane Mack adds a two-run shot to make it 6-0. Gonzalez hits his third homer of the game in the 6th inning! Gonzalez pops out in the 8th to end his HR streak. Rogers goes the distance in the 9-1 Castle Rock victory.
