| Game #1: | Well it was tough – Gas Hornets get 12 hits, but leave 11 on base – good thing they also got 3 walks and a HBP because the Blue Crabs got a 2 run homer in the 6th from Chipper Jones. At the time that gave them a 2-1 lead. Rick Reed was strong – only 2 hits both in the 6th. However, Orel Hershiser was controlling his former team. 6.1 innings, gives up 2 walks and 10 hits – but only 2 runs (and 1 was unearned). The unearned run in the 7th tied it up and he left. Mike W. Stanton comes in and was victimized. Then Mike Dalesandro hits a PH rbi single in the 8th of John Frascatore and the Gas Hornets eek out the 3-2 win. | Game #2: | Deja Vu – all over again? Manhattan bangs out 13 hits (and Jason Kendall gets HBP again) – but again the Gas Hornets can’t get guys across the plate. 3rd inning, Baltimore starter Jeff Suppan flies out for a SF and gives the Blue Crabs a 1-0 lead. Lenny Harris drives in the tying run in the 4th with a double but Baltimore regains the lead in the 5th when Jon Nunnally extends the inning when he lets a fly ball pop out of his glove. Manhattan ties it in the 6th but Suppan goes 7 scattering 10 hits. So we go to the 10th – Matt Mantei goes for his 2nd inning but he walks Sean Casey. He’s lifted for PR Tony Graffanino. Good thing because he was able to keep ahead of Chipper Jones who triples him home for the go ahead run. Chipper then scores on a Tony Bautista single for a 4-2 lead. | Game #3: | Dmitri Young has a 3 hit, 2 rbi game. Jorge Posada drives in 2 with a single and double. Chipper Jones hits his 2nd triple of the series/season, scores twice on 2 hits. And Mark McLemore misses the cycle by a triple – homers (1) and drives in 3, scores twice. 13 Blue Crabs hits, 8 runs – 3 ERRORS – and the Gas Hornets get 1 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to win it 9-8. However, it was the Gas Hornets to lose as LaTroy Hawkins was strutting his stuff and then couldn’t get the Crabs out in the 7th until they scored 7 runs. It was 7-2 when the inning started. And the 3 Baltimore errors actually resulted in 0 unearned runs, all 9 Gas Hornets tallies were earned. | Game #4: | Dmitri Young has another 3 hit game – 2 doubles, homer (3) and 2 rbis. Baltimore plates 2 in the 6th and 7th, but the Gas Hornets counter those with 6 in the 6th and 4 more in the 7th as they crunch out 21 hits. Tino Martinez, showing why he’s a two-time MVP, goes 4 for 4, 3 runs, double, 2 homers (3) and 6 rbis – on and a SF! Derek Jeter gets 3 hits including his 2nd homer. | Game #5: | In the finale we have the 3rd 1 run game of the series. Top of the 1st Dmitri Young and Chipper Jones single and Tim Wakefield WP moves them up. Tony Bautista drives in 1 with a SF and Jorge Posada drives in another with a double. Gas Hornets get 1 back in the bottom half on a Garrett Anderson rbi single. A Paul Bako double and Trent Hubbard single gets Manhattan 2 runs in the 3rd. Then Anderson smacks a 3 run homer (2) in the 4th for a 6-2 Manhattan lead. In the 6th Bautista pulls the Blue Crabs within 2 with a 2 run homer (2). But Garrett Anderson drives in his 5th run in the bottom half! Good thing for the home team as Jorge Posada homers (2) in the 8th and Young homers in the 9th (4) as John Wetteland gives up his 1st run of the season, but he had a 2 run lead at the time. | Series Summary: | Manhattan wins the series 4 to 1 – but it wasn’t easy. Couple of games with lots of hits very few runs – games with lots of runs, the other team scored a ton as well. Outcome could easily have been way different. Gas Hornets finally head out of town for the next series as they travel to Stockton. Baltimore stays in suitcase land as they go to Newark (heck, maybe they’ll commute). |

In the 2nd Huskies Mueller lead off with a double, Gutierrez reached by error, Arroyo advanced the runners with a bunt and Young banged a two run single. In the 5th Huskies McRae doubled and Burnitz singled him home, followed by a Hatteberg RBI double, 4-0. In the 8th Gutierrez singled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a Young single. | Game #2: | With some momentum the Huskies call on Tomko (1-0) to face the Bums Rosado (0-0). Huskies Gutierrez singled and later scored on a McRae double in the 3rd. In the bottom half Ducey doubled and Loretta singled him home. Game reset. In the 4th Bums Caminiti drew a walk and came all the way around on a Ducey single and Burnitz error. Becker followed with an RBI single, 3-1. Bums fill the bases in the 5th and Rosado doubled in a couple more, followed by a Loretta two run double. | Game #3: | After two not so close games the Huskie send Belcher (1-1) to the mound and the Bums, Vazquez (0-2). After Vaughn and Spiers drew walks, Huskies Gutierrez banged an RBI single in the 2nd. Then Belcher smacked a three run shot, 4-0. In the next inning Surhoff ripped a homer to chase Vazquez. Bums get one back in the bottom half as Loretta singled, advanced and scored on a Thomas single. Bums get another back on a Becker double and Ortiz RBI single in the 4th, Huskies 5-2. | Game #4: | Huskie look to maintain the momentum with Pavano (1-1) as the Bums call on Oquist (0-2). Huskies score in the 1st. Surhof walked and Vaughn tripled. In the 4th Gutierrez singled, advanced and scored on a Mueller single, 2-0. Huskies add another in the 5th on a Reed RBI single. In the 8th Spiers worked his way around to 3rd and scored on a Buford pinch hit single, 4-0. Buford then scored on a Loretta throwing error. | Game #5: | Huskies send Guzman (1-2) to the mound to face Bums Astacio (0-0). In the 2nd Bums May banged an RBI single after Caminiti and Rivera drew walks. Howard then lifted a sacrifice fly. Mueller followed suit for the Huskies after a Gur=tierrez single and Guzman walk, 2-1 Bums. Huskies take the lead in the 4th on a Surhof two run homer, 3-2. Huskies Hatteberg added an insurance run for the huskies in the 6th with a single followed by a Spiers single, 5-2. Followed by a Gutierrez single, 6-2. Spiers made in 7-2 with a lead off homer in the 9th to add salt to the open wounds. And Gutierrez fllowed with his own to add battery acid to the wounds. | Game #3: | Corktown took a 2-0 lead into the 5th with a no hitter in tact for Steve Parris. Parris gives up 5 consecutive hits including a 3 run HR to Johnny Damon to give the Nighthawks a 5-2 lead and chasing Parris out of the game. Corktown once again climbs out of the hole. This time it was Ray Lankford with a grand slam in the 6th (2nd HR of the game). Larkford is the hero and keeps the Bootleggers streak alive.

| Game #4: | New Hampshire got up and after it early in this one. The Nighthawks took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th. But, as we have learned through 15 games it is very tough to keep the Corktown bats asleep. Scott Rolen 2 run HR cut the lead to 5-2. And the script repeats itself once again. Corktown would tack on another 3 in the 7th and walk in the bases loaded to give them the lead and victory once again.

| Series Summary: | The Bootleggers have flaws, but they took care of their home field through the first 16 games. More importantly it was all against the AL East. Corktown takes their 16-0 record on the road for the first time out west to take on Portland, while New Hampshire tries to regain their steam by traveling to a tough Harper Woods opponent. |
