| Game #1: | Fort Worth jumps out to a 4-0 lead after 3 innings, and Drabek is cruising until the 6th when Luis Gonzalez delivers a two-run homer to make it 4-2. Glanville gets one of those runs back in the 7th, and Fort Worth leads 5-2. Castle Rock runs themselves into two outs (one caught stealing, and one runner at 3rd), and the Fort Worth pen does the rest. The Final is 5-2, Fort Worth.

| Game #2: | Mark Clark pitches a gem for Castle Rock, going the complete game, and allowing 2 hits and one walk (29 batters faced). Hounds take advantage of a couple of Fort Worth errors to get a big 7th inning and take the game 6-0.

| Game #3: | Hermanson vs. Brown in a good pitching matchup. Hounds strike first as Luis Gonzalez extends his hitting streak to 26 games and is brought home by a Huskey single. But, Brant Brown knocks a 3-run homer in the 5th to give Fort Worth a 3-1 lead. Panthers pile on runs in the seventh, and they end up taking it 8-4. Kevin Brown picks up his 20th win.

| Game #4: | Like he has all season, Pettitte comes in to be the stopper. He pitches seven strong innings, and the bullpen does just enough not to lose it for Castle Rock. 6-4 is the final.

| Game #5: | Cloude gets the spot start for Castle Rock and faces Fernando. Tatis gets hit by a pitch and is lost for 19 days (rest of the season). Good thing we had his plate appearances at higher than 50%. The Castle Rock bats explode in the 2nd inning, exploding for 8 runs, capped off by a grand salami by Sean Berry. Widger adds a 3-run shot in 4th, and the Hounds are on fire. Cloude strikes out 15 in his start but also gives up 7 runs. The Panthers won’t say die, and they get it to 11-8 and have the bases loaded in the 8th. But, Quantrill gets Glanville to fly out to end the threat. And, Benitez gets his 31st save with a perfect 9th. The Final is 11-8, Castle Rock.

Their potent offense pumped out 16 hits – 4 of them by Ken Caminiti and former Gas Hornet John Vanderwal drives in 3 runs in a big 8-4 win for Santa Rosa. Working off some itchiness, Ricardo Rincon comes on, gives up a walk, hit, gets a K. But he leaves – John Wetteland in to stay sharp – NOT! He gets them to 2 outs but gives up a walk to load them up. Frank Thomas connects for one of those way out up, over the wall, Grand Slam homer (40) to tie the game! Wetteland’s 1st BS of the year. But – we go to the 10th and Manhattan gets 1 to win! | Game #5: | The series finale was a bit different than the previous game. Frank Thomas homers early (41) for 1 and the Gas Hornets tie it up in the 9th this time. Then in the 11th, John Wetteland comes in to give us the chance to win it in the bottom half. But with 2 outs, Big Hurt comes up with a runner on, and BLAM! Another homer (42) for 2 runs. That was big because Manhattan gets 1 in the bottom half, but this time it wasn’t enough. Big Hurt has Wetteland’s number. | Series Summary: | Well, that big offense had enough pitching and breaks to take the series 3 games to 2 and pretty much lock up the pennant for Steel City and make next week’s finale anti-climactic. So it will be post-season tune-ups. Manhattan got all their pitching #s done and Alicea will be fine too (after 1 game). |
