Hampton Huskies @ Santa Rosa Beach Bums
Series Preview: Santa Rosa Beach hosts the Hampton Huskies as the ’95 campaign winds down.
Game #1: The Huskies choose Drabek (3-6, 5.01) to face the Bums Appier (11-6, 3.32). In the 2nd Bums Nunnally singled, advanced on an infield grounder and scored on a Brumfield double. In the next at bat Huskies respond. Lead off hitters Eisenreich and Surhoff reached. Tettleton singled and a Bums throwing error allowed two runs to score. Later McRae double to bring in Tettleton, Huskies 3-1. In the bottom half the Bums get one back when Alomar reached on an error, advanced on an infield grounder and scored on a Thomas single. Bums tie the score in the 6th with 2-out. MacFarlane was beamed, Brumfield and Huson singled. Huskies respond again as Surhoff bangs a 2-run homer in the top of the 7th.

Game #2: Huskies Hershier (15-5, 3.15) squared off with Bums Smoltz (13-3, 3.77). Huskies start fast with an Eisenreich double and Tettleton homer in the 1st. In the bottom half the Bums fill the bases and Caminiti scored on a hard grounder to 3rd. Huskies Gomez rips a 2-run shot in the 2nd, Huskies 4-1. Gomez banged another 2-run homer in the 4th. Bums put up a 4 spot in the 6th to get back in the game, Huskies 6-5. Huskies respond by filling the bases in the 7th and plating two on a Surhoff single.

Game #3: Huskies attempt to clinch the series with Rhodes on the mound (2-7, 5.37) versus Bums Munoz (1-0, 2.21). Huskies score in the first on McRae and Surhoff singles. In the 2nd Brumfield singled, MacFarlane walked and Alomar banged them home, Bums 2-1. Bums Alomar brings another home with an Rbi double in the 4th. Huskies tie it in the 7th with 2-out as Tettleton drew a walk, Surhoff singled and Lewis doubled them home, 3-3. X-Huskie White ends it in the bottom of the 9th with a 2-out single.

Game #4: Huskies call on Gordon (5-6, 5.94) and the Bums rely on (Finley 5-12, 5.09) to keep a series win alive. In the 1st Bums Caminiti singled, Thomas walked and Sanders stroked an RBI single. In the 3rd Bums Thomas walked, Sanders singled and Nunnally banged an RBI single. Tarasco followed with an RBI single, Bums 3-0. In the 5th, Bums Sanders doubled, Nunnally walked and Tarasco stroked another RBI single. Later Gagne ripped a 2-run double, Bums 6-0.

Game #5: For the rubber match Huskies will use Jones (9-9, 4.35) and for the Bums Bullinger (8-7, 4.46). Huskies McRae (x-Bum) lead off the game with a double, advanced on an infield grounder and scored on a Surhoff fly out. In the bottom half Caminiti singled, advanced on a ground out and scored when Nunnaly banged a 2-out single. In the 3rd, Thomas singled, Sanders doubled and Nunnally singled them home, Bums 3-1. Caminiti hit a 2-run homer in the 4th to give the Bums a sizable lead. Huslies aren’t done yet. In the 6th they fill the bases and Surhoff scored on a fly to right. Oquendo followed with a single and the game in 5-4 Bums. In the bottom half Gagne singled and later in the inning Caminiti hit a wall banger to score Alomar, Bums 6-4. Huskies McRae lead off the 7th with a homer, 6-5. In the top of the 9th McRae lead off with single, stole second. Eisenreich singled, McRae ran through a red light and was gunned down at the plate, Eisenreich advanced to second. Tettleton grounded to Gagne and Eisenreich advanced to third. 2-out and clean-up hitter Surhoff came to the plate. And the Bums intentionally walk him to get to Hernandez. Huskies go to the bench and call on Martin. Aguilera delivered one right down the middle, what was Martin looking for. Aguilera’s 30th save and 18th in a row.

Stockton Wings @ Long Beach Titans
Game #1: Long Beach took a 2-1 lead into the 9th with Mesa on to close out the game. After a couple of hits, Canseco hit a SF scoring Johnson with the tying run. In the bottom of the inning Liriano had a walk off 1B as Long Beach won 3-2.
Game #2: Long Beach pounded out 18 hits and rolled to a 12-3 win. Boggs and Liriano had 3 hits apiece to lead the offense. Hamilton went 7 innings and improved to 12-6.
Game #3: After Stockton tied the game in the 5th, Gibson hit a 2 run HR in the 7th to give Long Beach a 5-3 win. Hamilton had 3 hits including a 3B and a HR for Stockton.
Game #4: Long Beach scored 9 runs in the first 4 innings and went on to a 9-1 win. O’Brien, Baerga and Justice homer. Munoz had 3 hits and 3 RBI.
Game #5: Stockton had a 4-0 lead in the 6th before Justice hit a 3 run HR to cut the lead to 1. In the 8th Long Beach scored 6 with Gibson and Hill each with 2 RBI hits and won 9-4.
Series Summary: The home team swept the 5 game series.
Steel City Sluggers @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Series Preview: Steel City seeking to gain some in the Wild Card race come to Manhattan. Dugouts are full and the home town fans are excited to get their first look at rookie SS Derek Jeter – it’s rumored he’ll get a few starts this week.
Game #1: Derek Jeter indeed started and goes 2 for 5 with a double and an rbi. However, the RBI comes in the 9th to keep the Gas Hornets from being shut out. They get 12 hits in the game, but only 1 run. Compare that to Steel City who gets 13 hits and 10 runs!! Sean Berry gets 3 hits, scores 3 times. Shawn Dunston, Greg Vaught and Cliff Floyd each get 2 hits. Doug Brocail (W1-1) parlays 3 DPs and 6 ks into 8 scoreless innings despite give up 10 hits.
Game #2: Gas Hornets again get double digit hits (11) and 4 runs this game, but they lose by 12 in a 16-4 thrashing. Mark Grace (4 for 5, homer [15], 3 doubles, 3 runs, 4 rbis) and Scott Fletcher (3 for 5, 4 rbis) led the potent offense. Tom Urbani gets the win (4-2).
Game #3: Gas Hornets AGAIN get double digit hits (15) and actually score 5 runs – the last 2 in the 10th to gain a 5-4 win. Odd game, it was 1-1 going into the 8th. Sluggers score 1, Gas Hornets score 2. Then Sluggers tie it in the 9th with 1 and go ahead 4-3 with a run in the 10th on a Chris Jones homer (4). But Mike Stanton (L 1-2) and Jim Corsi can’t hold it in the 10th as ph Luis Alicea hits an rbi double and Turner Ward hits the walk-off single. Chris Haney hangs on for the win (2-3).
Game #4: Manhattan only gets 8 hits in this one – Steel City only gets 2! Shawn Boskie tosses a 2 hit, 1 walk CG shut out and the Gas Hornets win 5-0. Benito Santiago slams a 3rd inning grand salami for his 10th homer. Steve Ontiveros (5-6) takes the loss.
Game #5: Series now tied 2-2, Steel City decided early on to take this game. 1 in 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th pave the way to a 6-1 win. And Jaime Navarro limits Manhattan to 7 hits in 9 innings in getting the (8-8). Sean Berry homers (16) and Tony Eusebio cracks a double and 2 singles, drives in 1 and scores twice.
Series Summary: Steel City gets the 3-2 series win and the Jeter era in Manhattan begins! Now to find some pitching……
Michigan Mauraders @ Cincinnati Outlaws
Series Preview: The surprising Cincinnati Outlaws have quietly slipped ino the division lead and host the Michigan Mauraders in a five game set this week.

Game #1: Glavine vs Johnson was a dual. Earlier in the season these two dukes it out and this was even better. Glavine allows just 2 hits over 7 while The Big Unit allows 1 hit over 8.2. Walton drives in the games only run for Blarney.

Game #4: Blarney’s turn to eek out a nail-biter. After scoring 6 in the 1st the hometown fans were partying early. Up 6-1 heading into the 7th Winnipeg was eyeing a comeback with 3 in the 7th and 1 in the 9th but come up just short. Keyser and Reed shut down the Bandit raids the last 7 innings.
