| Series Preview: | The Demolition come in to face a reeling Castle Rock still trying to figure out its identity during its first year in the league. Are we a contender or a pretender? The fans are still turning out for Mile High baseball given the novelty of the whole thing, and Barry Bonds in the middle of the lineup. |
| Game #1: | Cal Eldred only gets a few starts this year, so we thought this would be a good one to trot him out for. He gets the nod vs. Todd Stottlemyre, and he does not not disappoint. The Hounds plate 1 in the 2nd and 2 runs in the 3rd and don’t look back in a 3-1 victory. JT Snow has the big hit, a two-run dinger and the Demolition are held to only 3 hits on the day by Eldred, Ruffin and Henke (although one of those is a Charles Johnson HR).

| Game #2: | Pedro vs. Kenny Rogers in Game 2, a nice matchup. As BBW is known to do this time of the season, all of a sudden, guys were Tired when they were fine the game before. It hits Chicago especially hard. But, Charles Johnson doesn’t mind, as he hits his second HR of the series in the 2nd to make it 1-0 Chicago. Castle Rock loads the bases with 0 outs in the 3rd. Snow reaches on a FC and ties up the game 1-1. Newfield hits a SF to make it 2-1. Pedro gets out without any further damage. Mercedes hits a two-run double in the 4th to make it 3-2. Rogers strikes out Nevin with the bases loaded to get out of further damage. Strawberry jacks one to make it 4-2. Snow makes it 4-3 in the 7th with a solo HR, his second of the series. Timlin comes on for the 9th and he sets the Hounds down 1-2-3.

| Game #3: | Pettitte vs. Clemens in this one. We’ll leave the PED jokes for you to think of. Bonds starts off strong with a 2-run homer in the 1st (insert next PED joke).Castle Rock picks up a 3rd run off on a Nevin error. Pettitte is going strong until the 7th, when the Demolition get to him, with a key Petagine 2-run double and tie the game up. But Newfield gets an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. Huskey follows that up with a double and the Hounds take a 6-3 lead and Clemens is pulled. Chicago threatens in the 7th, but Benitez is able to hold off the Demolition by striking out King with two runners in scoring position. Ruffin gets out of a bases loaded 1-out jam, and Bonds hits a RBI double to make it 7-3. Castle Rock brings in Meacham hoping to get some garbage time innings, and he proceeds to give up a 3-run HR to King to make it 7-6. Henke comes in, gets the first two guys out. Petagine hits a double and Hansen is up as the go-ahead run. But Henke gets him to ground out to short and the final is 7-6.

| Game #4: | The much-maligned back of the Hounds rotation is now up to face Chicago. Miguel Batista faces off vs. Bobby Witt. Roberto Kelly strokes a 2-run single to get Castle Rock on the board first. Dan Wilson cuts the lead in half with a homer in the 2nd. All is quiet until the bottom of the 7th when Tartabull hits a solo shot. He follows that up with a 2-run double in the 8th to break it open, 5-1. Bautista ends up pitching a complete game gem, giving up just the one run.

| Game #5: | After clinching the series, Castle Rock is looking to get greedy by taking Game 5. Suppan vs. Rekar. Castle Rock strike first again, with Snow hitting his third homer of the series, a three-run shot. Hounds add an unearned run in the 2nd. Rekar keeps getting out of jams, including a no-out bases loaded one. The double play is his friend. Wallach adds an RBI single to make it 5-0. Dan Wilson hits a solo HR, but Rekar gets another inning-ending double play. Rekar goes 7+ innings and gives way to Plunk who proceeds to let two inherited runners score on a Hansen double to make it 5-3. The damage stops there and Henke comes in for the 9th and closes it out.

| Series Preview: | The ho-hum Hampton Huskies host a similarly lethargic Cincinnati Outlaws team in hopes that one of these teams will wake up and start playing decent baseball. |
| Game #1: | Jose Vizcaino ripped a bases loaded single through a drawn-in infield in the top of the 12th inning to bring home two runs and lift the Outlaws to a 4-2 win in the opener.
Vizacaino’s hit capped a nice comeback by Cincinnati as they went into the 8th inning down 2-0 against Hampton’s seemingly bullet-proof start Jack McDowell. Black Jack ran out of steam in the 8th though walking Chipper Jones and Bobby Bonilla and both would come round to score later that same inning on a single up the middle by Jeff Branson who wound up with three hits on the day. Eddie Williams had the lone extrabase hit for Cincy with a double. Mike Stanley and Al Martin each had a pair of hits for Hampton including a double each. John Wetteland pitched a perfect 12th to earn his 5th save. |
| Game #2: | Chipper Jones (4) and Jeff Branson (2) homered off an out-of-gas version of Orel Hershiser in the Outlaws’ three-run 8th inning, but the Huskies hung on to nip the visitors 5-4.
The Huskies won despite only having five hits on the day – all singles – but it was Hershiser that carried pretty much the entire load for the team. Hershiser was good up until the 8th and probably ran out of gas since he not only pitched 7 strong innings to that point but also supplied most of the team’s offense. Hershiser was 2/2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Brian McRae drove in two runs for Hampton in the 6th with a single over a drawn-in infield and runners on 2nd and 3rd base. Brett Butler and Bobby Bonilla each had three hits for Cincinnati. Jones drove in three – two with the homer and one on a ground out that brought in Butler in the 2nd inning. Rich Delucia got his 2nd save of the season after following up a lousy 8th inning with a slightly less lousy 9th getting himself out of a bases loaded, none-out jam by getting Mike Piazza to hit a grounder right to Dave Hollins who was playing in at first base. Hollins nailed Butler trying to score from 3rd and then Mike Stanley fired the ball back down the 1st baseline to Jose Hernandez to complete the double-play. |
| Game #3: | Chipper Jones (6) homered twice and Bobby Bonilla clobbered his 2nd of the season off over-powered Hampton starter Bobby Jones as the Outlaws beat the Huskies 6-4.
The Huskies actually mounted pretty much no offense in the game and went into the 9th down 6-1 but Kirk McCaskill (who had been pretty much unhittable out of the Cincy pen so far this season) was inserted to close out the game for the Outlaws and gave up back-to-back-to-back homers to Brian McRae (1), Dave Hollins (1) and Jose Hernandez (5) and give a glimmer of hope to Hampton. John Wetteland, of course, came in and the bugger doused the glimmer big time getting the first three hitters he faced without the ball leaving the infield and nailed down his 6th save. Cincinnati starter Kent Mercker (4-0) was very good, tossing six shutout innings in which he walked two and struck out five while allowing just two hits. Jones drove in four runs on the day for the Outlaws with three hits. |
| Game #4: | Not even close as Cincinnati cranked out ten hits while Hampton could manage just two in a 7-2 win for the visitors.
Jeff Branson (3) and Ron Tingley (1) homered for the winners while Jose Hernandez (6) and Kevin Young (1) countered for Hampton. Kevin Ritz (3-0) went eight innings allowing just a couple of hits but walked six and capitalized on the Hampton impotent offense to minimize the damage to only two runs. |
| Game #5: | The Outlaws snagged a couple of late-inning runs against the Hampton bullpen as they broke free of a 2-2 tie in the 7th to win their fourth game of the series against the Huskies by a score of 4-2.
Mike Piazza led the offense for Cincinnate with two hits including his 8th homer of the year while Mike Stanley pretty much was the offense for Hampton getting three hits including a double and his 2nd home run of the season. Hampton starter Jeff Juden saw his elbow blow out in the 3rd inning and had to be removed for Rick White who actually pitched well for the pond scum that he is … he allowed two runs over five innings of emergency quality relief work. Juden should be out about half a month. |
| Series Summary: | Hampton loses 4 of 5 and its #5 starter for a couple of weeks so pretty much about as bad as we could have hoped for while Cincinnati definitely was the more awake of the two teams. |

| Game #1: | This game was all about Randy Johnson who threw a 12k PERFECT GAME for the first no-hitter of the year. He was as dominant as the numbers looked. Murray (2 HR, 3 RBI) and Greenwell (HR, 3 RBI) gave him all the run support he needed. |
| Game #2: | Wells wasn’t quite up to Johnson’s performance from the day before but he was really good throwing 7 shutout innings before giving up a run in the 8th and won 4-1. Blarney Drive jumped on Hamilton in the top of the first when Klesko doubled in 2 runs and the Bandits never looked back. |
| Game #3: | Long Beach got the early start in this game with 3 in the 1st with Fielder hitting a 2 run HR. Blarney Drive chipped away and took the lead in the 8th on a Snopek run scoring 1B. Long Beach loaded the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th but Hill hit into a DP to end the game. |
| Game #4: | After Long Beach’s offensive explosion of 3 runs in game 3, the Blarney Drive starter Hanson settled things down throwing a 3 hit shutout in the Bandits 5-0 win. Blarney Drive pounded out 12 hits in coasting to the win. |
| Game #5: | Finally a win for the home team. Perez threw 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball and Long Beach won 3-0. Oliver led the offense with 2 hits & 2 RBI. |
