| Game #1: | Game 1 saw a match-up between Ben McDonald and Mike Williams. It was a mismatch on paper, and also on the field. McDonald pitched an absolute gem, taking a no-hitter into the 7th inning. The Black Bears rode the wave of two Baltimore Specials with 3-run homers by Juan Gonzalez and Galarraga. The final was MBB 8-BDB 0. |
| Game #2: | Feeling confident after Game 1, the Black Bears trotted Kenny Rogers to the mound to face Tim Belcher. Again, the Black Bears relied on the long ball for the victory, with Matt Williams, Gonzalez and Galarraga all hitting bombs. Belcher pitched a good game, but was victimized in the 8th inning, giving up three runs. Four Black Bear pitchers combined, with Bedrosian getting the win and Wetteland his 12th save. Final was MBB 4-BDB 2. |
| Game #3: | Zane Smith and David Weathers matched up for Game 3, which saw Smith pitch a gem. He gave up one unearned run over 7 innings to drop his ERA to 2.99. Henke and Eichhorn mopped up with an inning a piece. Weathers gets a quality start, but it is not enough to match Smith. Bichette and Galarraga hit solo home runs and the final was MBB 3-BDB 1. |
| Game #4: | On paper, Blarney had the advantage in Game #4, with Randy Johnson taking the hill against Missouri’s Mark Portugal. Both teams scored in the first on solo home runs (Klesko and Bichette). After that, the bats went silent, and Johnson and Portugal battled it out. Both pitchers went 7 and gave up just that one run. But, Portugal’s relievers fared better than Johnson’s, with Missouri earning a run in the bottom of the 8th of Jerry Dipoto. Bedrosian got another win for Missouri and Wetteland picked up the save. Final score was MBB 2-BDB-1. |
| Game #5: | Missouri is going into Game 5 now looking for the series sweep. David Wells and the Bandits had other ideas. Blarney jumped on Willie Banks early, putting up 2 in the first, 1 in the fourth and 3 in the fifth. Wells pitched strong through 8 innings, giving up just two runs. Klesko was the big hitter for Blarney Drive, with a double, home run and 3 RBI. Final was BDB 8-MBB-2 |
| Series Summary: | Although Missouri may be better known for its bats, their pitching was the story for the better part of this series. Ben McDonald had the best outing (8IP, W, 2 hits, 0 runs), but Zane Smith, Rogers and Portugal all gave up 2 runs or less in 6+ innings. Offensive output was minimal for Blarney Drive. Galarraga had best series for Missouri, going 5/18 with 3 homers and 5 RBI. Final is Missouri 4, Blarney Drive 1. |
