Stockton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, the big blow being Eric Anthony‘s three-run HR. Flossmoor came back with three in the second. They tied it up in the fifth on Ron Gant‘s third RBI of the day and then the zeroes piled up. Flossmoor’s bullpen did a great job but Gregg Olson couldn’t keep Stockton from winning on a ninth inning Barry Larkin RBI single.

Flossmoor took control with a five-run fourth inning and never looked back. David Cone breezed through seven innings. Stockton scored one in the eighth and three in the ninth to make it look closer than it was. Olson redemmed himself by closing the door in the ninth. Jeff Bagwell paced the FFS offense with two hits and two RBI.

Drabek wasn’t sharp but pitched well enough for in 5.1 IP for the win. Jimmy Key left the game in the fifth inning with an injury. Stockton jumped out early, leading 5-0 after two innings, and had to hold on after two Flossmoor HRs in the sixth inning made it close.

Flossmoore touched Erickson for two runs in the second inning, and that’s all Greg Maddux needed. He went 8.1 inning, struck out six and gave up only two hits, both to Barry Larkin.
