Blarney Drive  Bandits @ Manhattan  Gas Hornets
Preview

The Blarney Bandits bring their road show to Manhattan as the Gas Hornets begin some retooling as they find themselves in an unexpected pennant race. Pipe dreams for sure, but the rag-tags are going to give it chance. In essence they picked up a couple of starter – Big Names, Morris and Hershiser – to give them some steady depth on the mound and hold the youngens’ together. Missouri reluctantly traded Morris – holder of many MWWL marks, but Jack is hoping for something big?

Bandits facing a tough season ….

Game #1:
Livingstone powers a 3 run homer (1) in the 1st as Gas Hornets grab a 4-1 lead. However, Bandits chip away with another in the 2nd and then 3 runs in the 5 and the score is knotted 5-5. But Manhattan adds 2 in the 6th and holds on to win 7-6. The two teams combine for 27 hits!
BDB 6-13-0 LP C.Young (0-1)
MBH 7-14-1 WP G.Harris (1-0) S D.Jone (7)
Game #2:
Teams trade runs in the 4th the the Bandits add single runs in the 6th and 7th. Wells and Pichardo doing well but the Bandits defense suffers a breakdown in the 7th and two Gas Hornets unearned runs cross the plate to tie it at 3-3. Bordick commits 3 ERRORS during the game. His 3rd error allows the winning run to score in the 8th as Manhattan comes back for the 4-3 win.
BDB 3-6-3 LP Murphy (1-1) BS (1)
MGH 4-9-2 WP Gott (3-2) S D.Jones (8)Gott’s first win as a Gas Hornet

Game #3: Orel Hershiser making his 1st Manhattan start takes a shutout into the 8th and then gives up Ricky Henderson HR (5), then Hamilton singles. Hershiser departs with a 5-1 lead. The Gas Hornets 5 runs were sparked by a 3 run 1st of which a Tino 2 run HR (4) was a big part.

Back to the top of the 8th – after Hershiser leaves, Mason gives up a hit and hits Bordick and Polonia drops a fly. Radinsky comes in and gives up a hit all in all 3 more runners score before the fire goes out. With the score 5-4, Radinsky stays in for the 9th, fans 2 and gets the save, Orel is happy (but was frustrated there for a bit).
BDB 4- 8-0 LP Black (0-3)
MGH 5-13-1 WP Hershiser (1-0, 3-4), S Radinsky (1)

Game #4:
Jack Morris makes his Gas Hornets debut and is a bit shaky in the 1st giving up a 1 out single to Bordick followed by a R.Henderson single. But Murray fans for the 2nd out but Seitzer lines one over 2nd for an rbi single. Gas Hornets get it back in their half, then take a 2-1 lead in the 3rd. But the Bandits tie it up in the 4th before Manhattan grabs a 4-2 lead in the 5th. Erik Hanson stays in for Blarney Drive and goes the distance but his teammates don’t score anymore runs.
BDB 2-8-1 LP Hanson (3-5)
MGH 4-8-1 WP Morris (1-0, 6-2) S D.Jones (9)
Game #5:
Dave Stewart is feelin’ the love as he goes 7 innings giving up 4 hits and a walk. Randy Johnson is looking strong but he’s having control issues (7 walks) and it finally catches up with him in the 5th when McReynolds touches off a 3 run homer (3). He ends up with 4 rbis in the game and the Gas Hornets complete the sweep with a 6-2 win.
BDB 2-6-1 LP R.Johnson (2-8)
MBH 6-7-1 WP Stewart (5-4)
Summary:
Manhattan gets the 5 game sweep and heads out on the road to face Steel City. Along the way they will pick up Dave Magadan to add to their cast of limited power spray hitters. Blarney returns home to face the talent rich Germantown Grays.
