Montana  Cutthroats @ Flossmoor  Flying Squirrels
Preview
Montana travels to Flossmoor to take on the Flying Squirrels in an American League cross-divisional battle.
Game #1:
Burks doubles home Lankford in the top of the first to get the scoring started. Then the flood gates open in the 2nd off Sutcliffe thanks to an error and a boat load of walks. The Cutthroats plate seven and bust the game open. That was pretty much all that mattered in this one. Franco and Salazar had 3 RBI each for Montana, who banged out 13 hits. Kruger gets the win tossing 7 strong innings of 2 run ball. Sutcliffe the loss allowing 8 runs, though only three earned.
MCT 14 – FFS 2
Game #2: Pitchers duel into the fifth when Mariano Duncan breaks the scoreless tie with a solo homer off Hibbard. But the Squirrels would answer in the bottom of the fifth. The first two men reach off Rijo and then Billy Spiers comes through with a two run triple. Rijo then battles back to get the next three batters, stranding Spiers at third. Flossmoor would add another in the 6th on a sac fly by Travis Fryman scoring Ron Gant to make it 3-1. Montana chases Hibbard in the 7th putting the first two men on. Bedrosian comes on to face Franco who singles but Ron Gant guns down Albert Belle at the plate for the first out. But that only delays the barrage as pinch hitter Paul Sorrento hits a three run bomb to put the Cutthroats on top. Montana adds one in the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout. Spiers goes deep off “The Pope” Don Pall but it isnt enough as Montana wins it 5-4. Rijo the winner improves to 4-1 with a 0.94 ERA. Bedrosian the loser. Franco 3-4. Paul Sorrento with all four RBI for the Cutthroats off the bench.
MCT 5 – FFS 4
Game #3: Once again it’s Mariano Duncan getting the scoring started with a homer, this time a three run jack off Kirk McCaskill in the fourth inning. Puckett gets one back with an RBI double for Flossmoor in the bottom of the fifth. An error leads to another Montana run in the 6th and chases McCaskill from the game. 4-1 MCT. Jeff  Bagwell leads off the bottom of the 6th with a homer to cut the lead to 4-2. But then Albert Belle goes yard to extend the lead back to three in the 7th. Squirrels grind one across in the bottom of the inning to trim the lead back to two. Onto the bottom of the 9th where Molitor leads off with a single, steals 2nd and scores on a Bernie Williams single to make it 5-4. Bernie takes 2nd on the throw and Terry comes in and walks Puckett to put the winning run on with nobody out. Terry K’s Puckett and Fryman but Bagwell comes up with the clutch hit to tie the game and send us to extra innings. In the 11th the Squirrels load the bases with one out for Jerry Browne, who hits one on the INF. Montana comes home but not in time to get Fryman and Flossmoor wins it 6-5.
Game #4: Flossmoor gets on the board in the bottom of the first as Molitor scores on a double play ground out to make it 1-0. But Mariano “F’N” Duncan as the Flossmoor fans have started calling him hits his THIRD homer of the series in the top of the 2nd with a man aboard to make it 2-1. Flossmoor takes back the lead with a Ron Karkovice RBI double and then Officer Karko scores on a sac fly. 3-2 FFS after two. Right back come the Cutthroats, an error by Browne extends the inning for Morris who hits a two run blast off Maddux. Then in the bottom of the third its Travis Fryman with the two run blast. 5-4 Squirrels after three. An uneventful fourth but in the fifth a leadoff triple for Puckett and an RBI groundout for Gant make it 6-4 Flossmoor. In the 6th its Morris going yard again to cut the lead to one. Montana puts two on in the 9th but Olson gets Burks to ground out to end it. Maddux the winner improving to 5-3. Tanana the loser falls to 2-3. Olson with save number five.
FFS 6 – MCT 5
Game #5: The game starts off with the first two batters reaching against Boddicker but then Flossmoor comes up with the rare triple play! Bernie Williams leads off with a double in the bottom of the first and a pass ball on a third strike allows Williams to move up and Puckett to reach. Gants hits into a double play but Bernie scores. Cutthroats take the lead in the fourth thanks to who else but Morris and Duncan. 2-1 after four. Kirby Puckett ties it up in the 6th with a solo shot. Gant  follows with a double and scores on a Fryman single. Spiers adds one more with a two out RBI single and its the Squirrels on top 4-2 after six. Boddicker would pitch into the ninth before Morris would reach and chase  him. Norm Charlton comes on for the final two outs and the save. Boddicker gets the win to move to 3-3. Martinez goes the distance in the loss to fall to 3-3.
FFS 4 – MCT 2

Ft. Worth Panthers 16-15 vs Portland Microbrewers 17-14. Winnipeg  Goldeyes @ Manhattan  Gas Hornets
Preview
Winnipeg comes to Manhattan and it’s homecoming for Steve Sax. He’s off to a good start, what will he show the old fans?
Game #1:
Opening game belongs to Andy Benes – he tosses 6 hit CG 4-0 shutout. In his three at-bats he walks twice (3 for the year, 6 in real life). And he hits a 2 run HR, his 2nd (1 more than real life). Over achiever. Sax 3 for 4 and SB. Benes (4-2)
Game #2:
This was a close game, except for the 4 run 2nd, 3 run, 7th and 4 run 9th. Hadn’t of been for them it would have been 1-0. However, the final was 12-0 on 20  hits for the Goldeyes. Sax 3 for 6. Ventura a grand slam – 5th homer. Just offense all over the place. WP Candiotti (5-0) goes 8 innings, 4 hits – having a great start!
Game #3:
3-1 after 7, the Gas Hornets were staying close, but couldn’t generate any more and lost it 4-1. Sax? 3 for 5 (3 straight 3 hit games! – never played like that in  Manhattan!). McGwire hits a HR (6 and double). Glavine the win (6-1), Willis the save (3).
Game #4:
For the 2nd straight week, Dave Stewart pitches a shutout – this time 10 innings – and comes away with no decision. His team can’t score either. Todd Stottlemyre matched him through 9 (2 hits – 2 hits for both pitchers), and Willis pitches the next 2 scoreless innings. Barberie knocks the GW rbi double in the  11th to keep the Goldeyes streak going. Sax? Well he got 1 of the 2 hits off Stewart.
Game #5:
Gardiner kept the Gas Hornets in it until the 8th. It was 3-0 when the Goldeyes came to bat in the 8th, 8-0 when they were done. McGwire bopped #7 (1 of 3 hits). Fletcher followed him in the 2 run 2nd with #1. Sanderson pitched 8 for the win (2-2). Sax? 2 for 5 with 2 rbis.
Summary
Winnipeg easily grabs 5 of 5. Sax gets 12 hits and bats .480 (with a couple of Stolen Bases). 11 of those were singles.
