1988 OPENING DAY
The anticipation of another opening day, (The 19th in Mid-West Winter League) was at a fevered pitch when hours before game time the reigning World Series Champion Manhattan Gas Hornets pulled off another deal. The Gas Hornets sent Gary Pettis & Mark Parent packing to the California Quakes in exchange for Kevin Bass & Ed Romero. Both managers were excited for the deal and all players had arrived with their new franchises by game time.
In Joan Jett & the Black Hearts opened up with a great rendition of the National Anthem and then the game in Missouri as the Black Bears were ready to take on the Bombers from Valdosta.
