· Germantown Grays @ Winnipeg Goldeyes |
Series Preview |
Winnipeg has the second worst record in the league and now they had to face Germantown a team a team playing above .500 with excellent hitting but weak pitching. The last time they met McGuire destroyed the young but not good Winnipeg pitching. |
Game #1: |
Winnipeg sent slop baller Jamie Moyer(5-11) out to face Rick Aguilara (5-3). Rick did not have it as Winnipeg batted around in the first scoring 7 runs. Winnipeg held on for the 10-5 win. Perry had the big game for Winnipeg going 3 for 3 with a homer, 3 steals 4 rbis and 3 runs scored. McGuire homered in the losing cause. WPG 10 GER 5 |
Game #2: |
It was little Johnny Rays night going 5 for 6 and just missed the triple for the cycle. Daulton went 4 for 4 as well. Guzman pitched a 5 hit shutout for the easy 11-0 win. |
Game #3: |
Not much hitting in this one as Morgon pitched well beating Bosio who was upgraded in the game. Germantown 3 Winnipeg 2 |
Game #4: |
Winnipeg after the off day asked Hayben to start as he needed to get to his 45% use level. He did great just 3 runs in 7 innings a McGuire 2 run homer. Ruess didn’t have it as Glenn Wilson, Valle, Brookens and Hullett got 10 hits.. Winnipeg 6 Germantown 3 |
| Game #5: | One of the best comeback games ever. Germantown was cruising as they hammered Ted Power for 7 runs in 4 innings McGuire was just a triple away from a cycle and Decinces hit a 3 run homer. It was 8-2 Germantown in the bottom of the 9th. Montgomery was in to mop up. Winnipeg managed a one out rally off Montgomery scoring 2 unearned runs thanks to 2 Germantown errors. So with it a game again Craig Lefferts came in for the save in the 8-4 game as two Montgomery runners were on. He got Inky to make it two out, then he hit Brookens to loaded the bases. Backman just needed a homer to hit for the cycle. He hit a deep single scoring two and making it an 8-6 game. Winnipeg pinch hit with Dave Valle vs Lefferts and he parked a game winning 3 run homer! Winnipeg 9 Germantown 8. Tom Glavine(1-4) gets his first win of his career as he pitched the blowout 9th inning. An amazing 7 run all unearned according to BBW although I ‘m pretty sure MLB handles it different as while Montgomery 4 runs are unearned I’m not sure Lefferts are (rule 10.16i) as he came in after the errors and his runners were put on by him and all three scored the HBP, the single and the homer. |
Game #6: |
Double header game 1) Aguilera was great this time and Brower git two homers to total 3 in the series. Germantown 5 Winnipeg 1 |
Game #7: |
So the Series was split and now it was second half of a double header. Ed Whitson was great complete game win as Winnipeg 4 Germantown 3 as old man Murphy took Guzman deep. |
