| Game #5: | MVM 8-9-1 vs DEW 5-10-1
After an early 5-1 MVM lead, the Tigers fight back to tie the game. However, the Maulers plate 3 in the bottom of the 9th to steal victory from DEW as Ray King benefits a win pitching a perfect 1.1, and then DEW’s Francisco Rodriguez can’t hold the fort. W: Ray King 3-2 HR: MVM HR: DEW |
| Game #6: | DEW 17-24-1 vs MVM 8-12-2

| Series Summary: | DEW 35-67-4 / MVM 34-53-3
Maulers take 4 out of 2 and continue to play above their pay grade holding a winning record in the Al Central albeit in 4th place. The Tigers fail to solidify their position in 2nd place of the AL East, or gain ground on division leader Corktown. |

Michigan Marauders @ Manhattan Gas Hornets |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Lacklust Manhattan hosts a rebuilding Michigan in what is hoped as a get better week. But never take anything for granted!!!! |
| Game #1: | Manhattan cruising for a win for Ben Howard with a 4-2 lead in the 7th but Lance Painter gives up a 2 run homer (4) to Bernie Williams and blows the save. Fortunately for the Gas Hornets they plate 1 in the bottom half and Tom Gordon gets his 9th save. 4 big Mauraders errors keep the Gas Hornets in it. MIC 4-10-4 LP Bonderman (1-4) MGH 5-11-2 WP Painter (1-0) BS 1 S – Gordon (9) other Michigan homers went to Aaron Boone (2) and Cristian Guzman (1) |
| Game #2: | Matt Morris is trying to reverse his horrendous season start and comes through in this one going the distance giving up 7 hits and 3 runs – of course he gives up a tater, a 2 run Jim Edmonds shot (5) in the 6th. But it was 7-1 Manhattan when that ball left the park. Garrett Anderson knocked a double and 2 singles and Jason Kendall also had a 3 hit day. MIC 3- 7-3 LP Sheets (2-2) another bad fielding day MGH 8-11-1 P Morris (2-4) |
| Game #3: | OK – Michigan commits NO errors – and they whack 12 hits including 5 homers!!!! And they get a great performance from Livian Hernandez. It all adds up to a whopping 10-2 win. Home run trots come from Brett Boone (6), Nick Johnson (3), Shane Halter (4) and two from Aaron Boone (4). Boonie had 6 rbis! MIC 10-12-0 WP Hernandez (2-4) S Stone (1) MGH 2- 8-0 LP Brian Anderson (3-2) |
| Game #4: | 3 for Gas Hornets in the 2nd, 3 for Mauraders in the 3rd. 2 for Mauraders in 5th, 2 for Gas Hornets in the 6th. Who will blink? Manhattan powers 3 in the 8th and that was only countered by 1 in the 9th for Michigan, so Manhattan wins the battle of attrition! 13 hits for Michigan a Jim Edmunds leads the attack with 2 hits, 3 rbis (doulbe). 3 other Mauraders had 2 hits apiece. Home team got homers from Matt Stairs (2) and Tony Graffanino (2) – a 3 run shot! MIC 6-13-1 LP Travis Harper (0-3) [2 hits and 4 walks in 2.1 innings] MGH 8- 8-2 WP Kim (2-0) S Gordon (10) |
| Game #5: | Tim Wakefield pitches a gem giving up 2 singles in the 6th. His teammates give him a 3-0 cushion going into the 9th and Tom Gordon comes on for the routine save. Well, it would have been routine if Jim Edmonds hadn’t connected for a 2 run homer (6) before there were any outs. But Gordon then managed to get 3 of the next 4 guys to make outs and save the game – but it was interesting! MIC 2-4-0 LP Penny (1-4) MGH 3-9-0 WP Wakefield (4-3) S Gordon (11) |
| Game #6: | The finale was a fun fest for the home fans. Again, the Gas Hornets pitching was way over the top. Ben Howard goes 6.1 innings, 2 hits (one of them was Travis Hafners 6th dinger of the season), 1 run! White and Kim pitch the final 2.2 innings – no runs. Meanwhile the offense cranks out 15 hits and 3 walks, 4 doubles, a 3 run Jason Kendall triple and a total of 10 runs! Kendall with a 3 for 5 day and 4 rbis seemed like the offensive star until you look at the bottom of the order and there was Joe McEwing with a 4 for 4 day, 3 rbis, 2 runs! |
| Series Summary: | Gas Hornets offense was better this week, but then Michigan’s pitching was not so stout! We get a 5 for 6 week, but next week we host the Long Beach Titans who are playing VERY WELL this year! |
Danbury Mad Hatters @ Blarney Drive Bandits |
|

Long Beach Titans @ Flora-Bama Mullets |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | The top two NL squads square off. |
| Game #1: | Lopez and Gonzalez homered and Moyer tossed seven shutout innings in his first home start as a Mullet. Flora-Bama 3-0 |
| Game #2: | Cintron’s three run homer in 6th broke a 1-1 tie, but the Titans bullpen couldn’t keep the lead. Mullets got a run back in the 6th, the 7th and then jumped ahead with three in the 8th. Acevedo locked down the 9th. Flora-Bama 6-4 |
| Game #3: | Titans put a four spot on Wolf in the 6th to put the game away. Loaiza was unhittable for the first five innings and then hung on for the complete game victory. Long Beach 7-3. |
| Game #4: | Nixon hit a two run homer in the 1st and scored again in the 5th. Mullets finally got one off Franklin in 6th. Lopez knocked a two run homer in the 8th to tie it. Helms two run homer off the Mullets closer Acevedo won it in the 9th. Long Beach 5-3 |
| Game #5: | Ex-Mullet Hampton was sharp to to start and Long Beach did much better against Moyer the second time around. Cintron went deep in the 1st and 3rd off Moyer to knock him out early. Marquis pitched batting practice the rest of the way hoping the Titans would be too tired for game six. Long Beach 23-4 |
| Game #6: | Solo homers from Vidro and Piazza in the early innings had the game tied 1-1 for the first four innings. Vidro’s sac fly in 5th gave the Titans the lead. Rowand’s rbi double off May tied it in 7th. Hawkins then imploded in relief as Berkman doubled in two and Berrora homered for two more. Flora-Bama 6-4 |
| Series Summary: | Splittsville – Alex Cintron was the player of the series with a very hot bat for Long Beach. |
Hampton Huskies @ Valdosta Bombers |
|
|---|---|
| Series Summary: | Bombers throw out an excellent defense, but they made 8 errors in the series. I have some great hitters that apparently have forgotten how to hit. I have no pitching. That resulted in a 5-1 series win for the Huskies. |
Fort Worth Panthers @ Houghton Penguins |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | The top team in the league, Fort Worth, travels to Houghton, going through a massive rebuild, during the first bad snowstorm of the year in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Some in the Houghton franchise thought the move to the winter season may negatively impact attendance at Penguin stadium, but their mascot loves it. |
| Game #1: | Mark Redman (3-0) takes the mound for the Fort Worth Panthers against the Houghton Penguins’ Ted Lilly (0-5). Lilly’s had a tough time so far this year sporting an ERA above 7. Redman only really gave up a 2-run bomb in the 4th to Byrnes, and Redman couldn’t get past Guillen (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI) and Sheffield (3-4, HR, Run, 3 RBI) Final Score FWP 6 HOU 2Win: Redman (4-0) Loss: Lilly (0-6)HR: Sheffield (FTW) Byrnes (HOU) |
| Game #2: | Westbrook (FTW) faces Benoit (HOU). This was a back and forth game with a total of 17 hits and 6 lead changes. Houghton’s new closer, Erasmo Ramirez, who they just traded for this week gave up a HR in the 9th inning to lose the game 4-3. Final Score FWP 4 HOU 3Win: Herges (2-0) Loss: Ramirez (0-2) Save: Borowski (11)HR: Redman (FTW) |
| Game #3: | Sabathia (FTW) faces Benson (HOU). The home crowd got to bed early tonight after the home team gave up 8 runs in the 3rd inning to go down 9-0. Benson saved the bullpen some work by shutting down Fort Worth for the next 3 innings, so minor victories. The Panther’s Sheffield (3-5, 2B, 2 HR, 2 Runs, 4 RBI) and I. Rodriguez (3-5, HR, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs) did most of the damage on the day. The lone bright spot for the Penguins was Jeff Kent (2-3, HR, Run, 2 RBI) Final Score FWP 11 HOU 3Win: Sabathia (6-0) Loss: Benson (1-4)HR: Sheffield 2, Rodriguez (FTW) Kent (HOU) |
| Game #4: | Kevin Brown (FTW) faces Darren Oliver (HOU). This was a tight game through the first 6 innings with each team scoring 1 run. Houghton gave up 5 runs in the final 5 innings to lose the game 6-2. Final Score FWP 6 HOU 2Win: Brown (4-2) Loss: Oliver (2-2)HR: Karros, Rodrigues (FTW) |
| Game #5: | Hideous Nomo (FTW) faces Aaron Harang (HOU). Somehow, Harang scattered 13 hits over 7 innings giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, as Houghton goes on to win 5-4. Fort Worth has 15 hits. Houghton has 6. Albert Pujols went 2-3, 2 HR, 2 Runs, 4 RBI) Colome comes in and blows the save in the 8th inning, but Houghton get 1 in the bottom of the 8th to win. Damian Rolls knocks in the game winning run. Final Score FWP 4 HOU 5Win: Ramirez (1-2) Loss: Parrish (0-1)HR: Pujols 2 (HOU) |
| Game #6: | Redman (FTW) faces Buehrle (HOU). Houghton again wins the only way they know how. Buehrle scatters 9 hits and gives up 1 run on a solo homerun by Edgar Martinez, as Houghton beats Fort Worth 3-1. Damian Rolls is the hero of the game for Houghton again with a 2-run homerun to put Houghton ahead for good in the 6th inning. With Buehrle ahead, he refused to let the bullpen finish the game. Final Score FWP 1 HOU 3Win: Buehrle (4-2) Loss: Redman (4-1)HR: E. Martinez (FTW) Rolls (HOU) |
| Series Summary: | Fort Worth storms in and takes the first 4 games, but the end snow flies and stops the Panthers in the snow drifts as the Penguins waddle to victory in the final 2 games. Houghton comes out of the series with a moral victory, but the continue to fall in the standings. The team mascot asks for a trade. |
Chicago Demolition @ Castle Rock Hounds |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | The 16-12 Demolition visit the 12-16 Hounds in a Thanksgiving weekend matchup. Due to the holiday constraints, writeups will be a little shorter this time around. Suffice to say, the Hounds feel like they have been underachieving up to this point in the season, but Chicago will be a tough team to make up ground with. |
| Game #1: | It takes until the 10th inning for any run to be scored, when Higginson goes deep off of Lohse, who pitched the game of the season for Castle Rock, giving up just 1 run in 9 innings. It steamrolls from there, as Delgado hits a 3-run homer off of Benitez in relief to put Chicago up 4-0. While Lohse was great, Schmidt was even better, going a full 10 INNINGS, and giving up just 4 hits on 0 runs. The final is 4-0, Chicago.
WP: Schmidt (3-2) |
| Game #2: | The teams exchange runs through 6 innings, with Castle Rock escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the 7th. BJ Ryan got thrown out after hitting Delgado to load them up, but Quantrill got Salmon to fly out to end Chicago’s inning. In the top of the 9th, Delgado again provided a crucial hit, with a two-out two-RBI bloop single to give Chicago a 4-2 lead. And, that is how it would end, as Donnelly finished off the game for Chicago. Castle Rock has not scored an earned run through the first 18 innings of the series! Stewart is out for 7 days for Chicago.
WP: Donnelly (2-1) |
| Game #3: | Another close one, as Pedro faces off against Pineiro. Castle Rock finally scores an earned run, its first of the series, with a solo HR from Polanco to make it 1-1 in the 4th. They add a second run a wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead. Sweeney adds an RBI double off of Donnelly in the 7th and Polanco extends it to 4-1 with an RBI single. Benitez comes on to close the 4-1 victory for Castle Rock. This offense for Castle Rock just has to put some runs together at some point. The entire lineup is batting under .260 with the exception of Bonds at .281.
WP: Pineiro (2-4) |
| Game #4: | Batista gets Chicago on the board first with a 2-out 2-run homer in the 4th. Higginson extends the lead to 6-0 with a 3-run homer in the 6th. Bonds finally gets Castle Rock on the board with a solo shot in the 6th. Batista adds his second homer of the day in the 8th, and Higginson follows that up with a triple, giving him the two most difficult parts of the cycle. The final is a convincing 7-1 victory for Chicago giving them the 3-1 series lead.
WP: Millwood (3-1) |
| Game #5: | Batista homers again to give Chicago a 4-1 lead in the 4th. Castle Rock is able to squeeze it to 5-3 before Renteria hits a 3-run homer in the 8th to break open a 8-3 lead for Chicago. And, that’s how it would end.
WP: Clemens (3-2) |
| Game #6: | A rematch of the pitcher’s duel in Game 1, with Schmidt facing off against Lohse. Kyle works out of multiple jams, but Delgado tags him for a solo HR to lead off the 6th and give Chicago a 1-0 lead. But, Castle Rock finally breaks through on Schmidt after 17.1 IP of shutout ball, with a Wilkerson RBI single. Castle Rock threatens more, but Adams shuts it down. Kinkade leads off the top of the 9th with a HBP and is lost to Chicago for 12 games. Chicago can’t take advantage of the lead-off runner and it stays 1-1.
In the top of the 10th, Batista delivers an RBI sac fly to give Chicago the 2-1 lead. Donnelly comes on to close it for Chicago, striking out the side, as they take the series 5-1. |
| Series Summary: | Another rough series for Castle rock, as their bats continue to perform at woefully inadequate levels. Hard to believe that this is the same squad that used to strike fear into pitcher’s hearts. Congrats to the Demolition for a strong 5-1 series victory. |
