Manhattan Gas Hornets @ Hampton Huskies

Series Preview: Hampton hosts Manhattan this week in back to back versus division front runners.
Game #1: Matt Morris and 3 relievers toss a 6 hit shutout in the opener, Morris goes 8 innings. Ray Durham has 3 hits, 2 runs and 4 other Gas Hornets have 2 hits each in the 5-0 opening game.
MGH 5 HAM 0
Game #2: This game belonged to the Huskies – well it would have if they’d had a closer. Score was 4-3 Hampton going into the 9th thanks to a 4 run Huskies outburst in the 4th keyed by a 2 run Jolbert Cabrera single. Bob Wickman was called on to pitch the 9th and he promptly earned his 8th blown save giving up 3 hits and 3 runs in a 4 run Gas Hornets 9th. That flipped the score to 7-4 and Kim closed it down for his 31st save.
MGH 7 HAM 4
Game #3: Brian Anderson goes 6.1 innings, 4 hits, 1 run – a Scott Hatteberg rbi single in the opening frame! Manhattan chipped away with 1 in the 2nd and 3rd then 2 in the 9th on Derek Jeter 2 run double. Ray Durham (16) and Josh Phelps (17) homered for the Gas Hornets, Wakefield the save (1).
MGH 4 HAM 1
Game #4: 3 run Hampton 9th makes the game look closer than it was as Manhattan busts out for 5 runs in the 5th enroute to the 8-5 victory. 17 hit attack included Garrett Anderson’s 34th homer (2 rbis). Reed the win, Suppan the loss. Scott Hatteberg homers (10), Brett Mayne doubles in 2 in the 9th.
MGH 8 HAM 5
Game #5: Gas Hornets commit 4 errors, 2 by starter Denny Neagle in the 1st and 2 by Tino Martinez. And yet, they give up no UNEARNED RUNS!! However, they do give up 7 EARNED runs including 5 in the 2nd. Giles (6) and Ramirez (9) homer along the way. 5 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd and then 1 in the 7th. Meanwhile, the visitors were struggling but they did get single runs in the 1st and 2nd. In the 6th Manhattan scrounges out 3 runs getting the Gas Hornets within 1, 6-5. Then Manhattan manages to score 3 more in the 7th on a 3 run Josh Phelps homer (18) – Phelps was acquired in a trade with Hampton this year. The homerun came off Myers who gets a BS (6) for his efforts – and he also draws the L as the Huskies can’t tie or regain the lead – although Ramirez’s homer did give them hope. Kim pitches the 8th and 9th to ensure Manhattan stays on top.
MGH 8 HAM 7
Series Summary: Manhattan needed success this week and got the sweep – although the Huskies were more than pesky. Huskies still in a race for most lottery balls however….

Corktown Bootleggers @ DeWitt Tigers

Series Summary: In a key late season battle Corktown comes to Dewitt and takes 3 of 5. Three teams remain in contention for the Division

Gladstone Gladiators @ Valdosta Bombers

Series Preview: Another ugly series for the “1st” place Bombers as the Gladiators take 3 of 5 and pull to within 1 game of the lousy NL Central. Jamie Moyer did win his 18th game of the year for the Bombers.
Series Summary: 3-2 Gladstone.

Blarney Drive Bandits @ Hollywood Vampires

Series Summary: Hollywood trailed the division by 3 going into the series, and only picks up 1 game in a very tight series (outside the last game). It’s unlikely that Hollywood can make up the difference since they are A-H-A vs Blarney’s H-A-H. They are destined for a 3 game set in either Manhattan or Flora-Bama.

Baltimore Blue Crabs @ Flora-Bama Mullets

Series Preview: The Mullets need a big series to keep pace in the division, but they’ll have to do it against the 5th best team in the NL.
Game #1: All dreams of keeping pace with Manhattan fade as Baltimore pounds Burnett and Williams tosses six scoreless innings for the win.
Baltimore 8-1
Game #2: Schilling gutted out the win giving up 10 hits, but only three runs over eight innings. Mullets took advantage of Crab errors and also slugged three homers.
Flora-Bama 10-3
Game #3: Flora-Bama only managed six hits, but one of them was big bop from Mo Vaughn. Beckett pitched one of his better games working out of multiple jams to go six innings for the win. The pen was scoreless over the final three innings.
Game #4: The Baltimore defense and Barry Zito fell apart in the 6th. The Mullets had tight a 4-3 lead until they scored seven runs in the 6th and then three more in both 7th and 8th. It was a good day for the backups to get usage. Lawrence stayed in to grab his sixth complete game of the season.
Flora-Bama 17-3
Game #5: Burnett had a 2-0 lead and a one hitter going through 5.2 innings. With two outs in the sixth, Jones, Posada and Branyan hit back to back to back solo home runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Mullets tied it in the bottom of the 8th, but they missed taking the lead when pinch runner Nieves was gunned at home by Byrnes. Wilson took Carter deep in the 9th. The Crabs used solo homers to score all of their runs.
Baltimore 4-3
Series Summary: Flora-Bama got the 3-2 series win, but Baltimore played the spoiler role well. The Mullets needed to do much better for any chance of catching Manhattan.

Long Beach Titans @ Winnipeg Goldeyes

Series Summary:  The Candians sweep the USA in this one taking all 5 games.
