Fort Worth Panthers @ Chicago Demolition |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | In the upcoming series between the Chicago Demolition and the Fort Worth Panthers, we have two teams with contrasting records. The Chicago Demolition, with a strong 10-6 record, have shown consistent performance throughout the season. They are likely to rely on their solid offense and strategic gameplay to maintain their winning momentum.
On the other hand, the Fort Worth Panthers, with a 4-12 record, have struggled to find their rhythm this season. They will need to focus on tightening their defense and capitalizing on any opportunities to turn their season around. Odds for the Series: Overall, the Chicago Demolition are expected to dominate the series, but the Fort Worth Panthers could pull off an upset if they play to their strengths. |
Game #1: | In a dominant performance, the Fort Worth Panthers secured an 8-1 victory over the Chicago Demolition. The game started with Gary Sheffield’s two-run homer in the first inning, setting the tone for the Panthers. Hideo Nomo was stellar on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing only two hits while striking out three. Pedro Martinez, starting for the Demolition, struggled early, giving up three runs over five innings, including Sheffield’s homer. Despite a late effort by the Demolition to break the shutout in the ninth inning with a run scored by Greg Colbrunn, it was too little, too late. The Panthers’ offense was relentless, with Lenny Harris contributing four hits, including a triple. The Demolition’s bullpen couldn’t contain the Panthers’ bats, as Justin Kaye and Jim Mann allowed additional runs in relief. Final Score: Fort Worth 8 – Chicago 1 |

In the eighth inning, Roberto Alomar drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing in the final run for Chicago. Rodrigo Lopez, the starting pitcher for Fort Worth, pitched well but was unable to contain the Demolition’s offense in the later innings. Nomo was exceptional on the mound, allowing only a few hits and issuing minimal walks, while striking out several batters. His performance kept the Demolition’s offense at bay throughout the game. Pedro Martinez, the starting pitcher for Chicago, struggled after a strong start, ultimately giving up three runs before being replaced by Willie Banks. Despite some opportunities, the Demolition couldn’t capitalize, and Nomo’s pitching sealed their fate. Nomo’s complete game shutout was a testament to his skill and control, leading Fort Worth to a decisive win. Final Score: Fort Worth 4 – Chicago 0 |
Series Summary: | In a good series between the Chicago Demolition and the Fort Worth Panthers, the Panthers emerged victorious, showcasing resilience and strategic prowess despite their underdog status. The series was marked by standout performances and pivotal moments that defined the outcome.
The Panthers, with a struggling season record, defied expectations by clinching the series with a combination of strong pitching and timely hitting. Hideo Nomo was a standout performer, delivering a complete game shutout in the final match, which sealed the series for Fort Worth. His exceptional control on the mound was instrumental in keeping the Demolition’s offense at bay. Gary Sheffield was another key player for the Panthers, consistently delivering crucial hits, including a three-run homer that set the tone in one of the games. His offensive contributions were complemented by Rich Aurilia and Fred McGriff, who provided additional firepower with their timely hits and home runs. The Demolition, despite their strong season record, struggled to maintain their momentum against the Panthers’ relentless attack. Pedro Martinez and Kevin Millwood had notable performances on the mound, but the Demolition’s offense couldn’t capitalize on opportunities, often falling short in crucial moments. One of Chicago’s victories in the series came from a tight game where Edgar Renteria’s three-run double turned the tide in their favor. However, this was not enough to shift the overall momentum of the series. The Panthers’ ability to exploit the Demolition’s weaknesses and their strategic gameplay were key factors in their series win. This victory not only highlighted the Panthers’ potential but also served as a reminder of the unpredictability and excitement inherent in sports. Despite the odds, the Panthers’ determination and skill led them to a well-deserved triumph over the favored Demolition. |
Blarney Drive Bandits @ Hampton Huskies |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Blarney moves in preparing to continuing the ass-whoopin’ against Hampton. |
Game #1: | A four-run 4th inning against Blarney Drive starter David Wells proves too much as the Huskies hang on to win 4-3 versus the Bandits. Spivey (4) and Lane (3) homered off the pretty hittable Barry Zito (2-1), but the lefty Hampton ace was able to minimize the damage and lasted into the 9th before giving way to Dan Kolb who got the final two outs for his 1st save of the year. Robert Fick had two hits and drove in the winning run for Hampton to end the losing streak at 9. |
Game #2: | Jason Marquis gives an Oscar-nomination-worthy performance as a good pitcher and held off the Bandits for almost seven innings, but in the end they were too much and Blarney Drive won 4-2. Ryan Klesko had three hits and scored twice with Brian Giles singling twice and driving in two. Al Leiter maintained his perfect record and improvied to 3-0 after striking out five and allowing five hits in 7 innings. |
Game #3: | A pitcher massacre which included three homers against Randy Johnson (he went into the series allowing just one) with Blarney Drive coming out on top 20-12 vs Hampton. Durazo had four hits as did Mike Lowell with the latter scoring four times. Green (7), Spivey (5) and Hundley (1) went deep for the Bandits while Lee (2), Barajas (1), Hatteberg (2), and Hinch (2) did the same for Hampton. The game also included five errors combined by the two teams so it would have been super pretty to see live. |
Game #4: | The Huskies gutted Blarney Drive starter Perez with five runs in the 1st inning and hung on to win 7-5. Perez (1-2) lasted just two outs after giving up three hits and three walks to start the game. The Bandits’ DH Lane won the award for the prettiest line in the game with 3.3 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention all three hits were home runs. |
Game #5: | Brent Mayne’s suicide squeeze with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th brought in the winning run as Hampton ensured at least a series split with a 2-1 win over Blarney Drive. Kris Benson allowed just one unearned run somehow for Hampton over nine innings despite allowing seven walks. Mayne’s hit was the third for him in the game. |
Game #6: | Barry Zito continued to be underwhelming as he coughed up five runs in seven innings in a 6-3 win for Blarney Drive. Ryan Klesko homered and doubled for the winners with Ron Gant picking up three hits including a double. Buddy Groom registered his 5th save with a perfect 9th. |

Hollywood Vampires @ Manhattan Gas Hornets |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Vampires and Gas Hornets – could be dangerous to be around. Lots of good pitching with Hollywood – rotation is hard to beat and bullpen is stout! Manhattan has a very decent bullpen, starters are adequate. Offenses can carry loads – as long as they aren’t too stifled. But as Maxwell Smart would say…Would you believe 6 shutouts? Well how about 3 shutouts, 1 1 run game and two none of the above???? |
Game #1: | Roy Halladay goes the distance tossing a 3 hitter and giving up 2 runs – a Wil Cordero 2 run double in the 7th. However, 5 Manhattan pitchers combine for a 6 hitter and give up but 1 run, a Rafeal Furcal rbi double in the 9th as the Gas Hornets grab the opener. FINAL 2-1 Manhattan HLW 1-6-0 LP Halladay (1-2) MGH 2-3-1 WP Guthrie (2-1) S Kim (2) |
Game #2: | Mark Mulder goes 8, gives up 5 hits and is bothered by 2 long balls (Ray Durham (3) and Tino Martinez (3)) and gives up 3 runs (in the opening 2 innings. However, his teammates scored 5 in the 2nd, added 3 more in the 4th and coast to an 8-3 win to even the series. Paul Konerko (3) and Dustin Mohr (2) contribute 2 homers and 2 rbis each. FINAL 8-3 Hollywood HLW 8-14-1 WP Mulder (3-1) MGH 3- 5-3 LP Brian Anderson (0-1) |
Game #3: | Gas Hornets regain the series edge by plating 2 early and then allowing only 2 Vampires run (in the 7th). Then Manhattan plates 2 in the 7th for insurance and the bullpen keeps Hollywood scoreless the rest of the way. Derek Jeter (2) the only homer of the game. Paul Konerko goes 4 for 4 with a double. FINAL 4-1 Manhattan HLW 1-11-0 LP Odalis Perez (1-3) MGH 4- 9-0 WP Kevin Jarvis (2-0) S Kim (3) |
Game #4: | Rick Reed tosses a 2 hitter for Manhattan and only gives up a solo homer to Rafael Furcal (3) in the 8th as he gives another great performance in the early season! But Roy Oswalt does him a bit better giving up just 1 hit in his 8 innings and NO RUNS! Jason Isringhausen continues the stellar Hollywood mound outing pitching a perfect 9th for the save. FINAL 1-0 Hollywood HLW 1-3-0 WP Oswalt (4-0) S Isringhausen (4) MGH 0-1-2 LP Reed (1-3) |
Game #5: | Couple of 7 hitters are featured in this one, Wade Miller for Hollywood (over 7 innings) and Matt Morris for Manhattan – also over 7 innings. However, Morris gives up NO RUNS and Miller gives up 5! Miller also gave up 4 walks. FINAL 5-0 Manhattan HLW 0-7-0 LP Miller (2-1) MGH 5-7-1 WP Morris (1-2) |
Game #6: | Another Roy Halladay outing and he pitches all the innings for Hollywood and again gives up just 3 hits! What’s with this guy. 1 of the hits was a 2nd inning solo homer by Tino Martinez (4). And that was the game’s only run! Mickey Callaway started and 4 other pitchers finished and they toss a 4 hitter. FINAL 1-0 Manhattan HLW 0-4-0 LP Halladay (1-3) MGH 1-3-0 WP Tim Wakefield (4-0) S Kim (4) |
Series Summary: | Not a lot of scoring but exciting series nonetheless as the pitchers keep things suspenseful throughout. Manhattan manages a 4-2 win but could easily have been 4-2 the other way! |
