Game #6: Dondero 4
Corktown 3
W: P. Wilson (7-13)
L: P. Abbott (8-11)
S: M. Rivera (23)
Game #7: One of the weirdest split series I can think of. Corktown was absolutely dominant in 2 games and destroyed Dondero in the 12th of their 3rd win. Somehow Dondero squeezed out 3 close games even though they were outscored by 23 in the series.

DeWitt Tigers @ Castle Rock Hounds

Series Preview: Dewitt comes in at 57-66 and Castle Rock at 66-57, as the Hounds are in the thick of the wild-card race and the Tigers are on the outside looking in, but still have a good squad.
Game #1: Castle Rock gets a strong start from Pineiro, 3 hits each from Polanco and Easley and a homer from Bonds to take the opener by a 7-2 score.

WP: Pineiro (6-3)
LP: Milton (12-9)
S: Doug Davis (1)

Game #2: Dewitt scores first with a sac fly to send Pierre home in the 1st, but Bonds responds with a 2-run HR in the bottom half. Bonds hits another 2-run shot in the 2nd inning to give Castle Rock the 4-1 lead. And, believe it or not, Bonds hits ANOTHER 2-run homer (Snow has been the runner each time) in the bottom of the 7th. Castle Rock leads 6-2, thanks to three 2-run homers from Bonds. Bonds walks the next time he is up (smart move) and the final is 7-2, Castle Rock.

WP: Pettitte (11-8)
LP: Armas (4-14)

Game #3: Another strong offensive game from the Hounds, as they hop all over Loaiza, plating 7 runs in 1+ innings. Bonds gets his fifth homer of the series and Dye adds three hits and 4 RBI for the Hounds. Carpenter does enough on the mound for Castle Rock as they take it by a final of 12-4.

WP: Carpenter (4-6)
LP: Loaiza (0-1)

Game #4: Dewitt jumps all over Castle Rock’s ace, John Burkett, getting 9 runs off of him in the first four innings, highlighted by homers from Andruw Jones and Travis Lee. Dewitt has a 9-0 lead, but sees it dwindle to 10-6 in the 7th inning, but Castle Rock can’t do any more damage as Koch comes in to close it down. Bonds has his first homer-less game of the series and the final is 10-6, Dewitt.

WP: Ponson (4-8)
LP: Burkett (15-7)

Game #5: Bonds is upset about not getting a homer in the last game, so he hits his 6th of the series and 55th overall. Barry gets hit in his big old head in the bottom of the 6th and is lost to Castle Rock for the next four games. That is not good for the next series, when we host Dondero. But, in this one, the game is close, but Castle Rock holds on for a 7-5 victory. Dye gets 4 hits including a double and a HR and Bonds was 2-2 with a HBP and BB before exiting.

WP: Jesus Sanchez (3-1)
LP: Colon (12-9)
S: Bailey (2)

Game #6: This is a tight one, but the Tigers come out on top 6-5 in the end, as they get Sweeney to hit into a double play to end the 9th inning rally. Dewitt went up 5-0 early with 5 doubles in the game (two each from Lee and Beltre) and Castle Rock missed Bonds’ bat in the lineup. Alfonseca hung on to get a two inning save.

WP: Milton (13-9)
LP: Pineiro (6-4)
S: Alfonseca (17)

Series Summary: Castle Rock takes 4 out of 6 from the Tigers, but loses Bonds for four games after he hit 6 homers in the series.

California Quakes @ Southlake Stealers

Series Preview: California having been mathematically eliminated is just waiting for the season to end and the lottery to begin. Southlake is still trying to figure out if they are a playoff team or not.
Game #1: Will Cunnane doesnt think the playoffs are a possibility and he showed it on the mound. He goes just 1 2/3rds of an inning yielding 7 Runs on 9 hits. The big blows came from the catcher Miller (2RBIs) and second baseman Alfonzo (3RBIs).

Southlake’s bullpen was spectacular giving up only 5 hits and no runs the rest of the way giving their teammates a chance to fight back. Fight back they did indeed. Conine scored 3 times and Nunez had 2 RBIs as southlake was able to take advantage of 3 California errors.

But the hole was too big to overcome

Final Cal 7 Southlake 5

WP: B. Jones 2-11
LP: Cunnane 0-8
S: Wells 2
Big Boy Restaurant’s Big Boy of the Game -Alfonzo 2/5 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.

Game #2: Once again California strikes first on a Bellinger Sac fly to score, who else, Alfonzo. They would extend the lead when a basesloaded walk to Bellinger would again score Alfonzo.

Southlake would continue to fight and in the 6th they would plate 4 runners to take the lead. A suicide squeeze, followed by a double from Nunez and a single by Macias would do the trick.

Bellinger would have a day when he greeted Haynes with a Solo shot to lead off the 7th. Sarge would turn the game over to his bullpen where Gabe White went the final 9 outs to secure his second save of the season.

In addition to yet another loss in the standings the big loss was an injury to Salmon who will miss the next 6 games.

Final Southlake 5 California 3
WP: Haynes 6-10
LP: Ohka 5-14
S: White 2
Big Boy Restaurant’s Big Boy of the Game -Clark 1/3 with a Homerun and 2 RBIs.

Game #3: Finley said whatever Cunnane can do, I can do better. California would take advantage of two errors in the first to start the scoring. They would add 7 more runs in the 2nd before Finely was mercifully pulled after just 1 2/3rds. Fetters would give up two more in 2 innings, until he was ejected for throwing at Bellinger.
Alfonzo was again a headache as he went 2/5 with 3 runs
Ichiro would add to the offense onslaught going 3/6 with a run and 3 RBIs. He is now hitting .330 on the season.
For California Dessens was incredible, going 8 innings giving up no runs on just 3 hits. He made a strong case for pitcher of the week.Final score Cali 12 Southlake 2WP: Dessens 4-5
LP: Finley 5-15
Big Boy Restaurant’s Big Boy of the Game -Dessens 8IP 0 Runs, 3 Hits, 2BB, 2 Ks.
Game #4: Terry Adams says wait a minute before giving Dressens the Pitcher of the week nod. He goes a full 9 innings giving up no runs on 5 hits while striking out 7.

A Wooten single in the 1st followed by an Owens double was all the Stealers would need. But Wooten added a solo homer in the 3rd as insurance just in case.

Alfonzo was hot again going 2/4. But with two runners on in the top of the 9th and only 1 out, Adams was able to get Alfonzo to hit into a game ending double play.

Final Score : Stealers 2 Cali 0
WP: Adams 10-10
LP: Wells 2-3
Big Boy Restaurant’s Big Boy of the Game -Adams complete game shut out 5 hits, 2 BB, 7 Ks.

Game #5: Game 5 was a pitchers duel with both starters going the distance.

California would lead off the game with a triple by Castillo but Redding would strand him there.
In the second inning Alfonzo would lead off with a double. But Redding couldnt strand him as he scored on Bellingers two run homerun.

Southlake would come back in the third with back to back jacks by Clark and Anderson. The Quakes would continue to hit Redding getting 12 in all. But he found ways to keep the scoring to a minimum by striking out 15 batters.

Besides the two bombs Wolf was incredible on the day, scattering 6 hits, 3 BBs and 6Ks of his own as he limited Southlake to just two runs.

Final Score Cali 5 Southlake 2

WP; Wolf 6-11
LP: Redding 1-8
Big Boy Restaurant’s Big Boy of the Game -Wolf complete game 2 Runs, 6 Hits, 3BB, 6 Ks.

Game #6: Southlake looking for the split and Cunnane looking for redemption. Redemption was found. He would go 9 innings scattering 7 hits while striking out 7 Quakes in getting his first win of the year. The third complete game in a row for the Stealers.

The Stealers would use the long ball to score today. Zeile had a three run shot early in the game. Clark would add a solo shot later on. It was his 4th of the year and 3rd in the series. Wooten would follow up later with his 8th of the year.

Final Score Stealers 5 Quake 2
WP: Cunnane 1-8
LP: B. Jones 2-12
Big Boy Restaurant’s Big Boy of the Game -Cunnane Complete game, 2 Runs. 7 hits, 0BB, 7Ks.

Series Summary: A series split. A strong series for Alfonzo and Bellinger of the Quakes. Starting pitching for the Stealers was on fire, saving a taxed bullpen.
