Michigan Marauders @ Flora-Bama Mullets |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | The team currently with the best record in the NL hosts the team with the worst. Michigan’s offense is too good for this to last, but will the Mullets finally cool down? |
| Game #1: | Hernandez vs. Adams Rios three run homer capped a four run first. Bell’s RBI double in the 3rd knocked out Livan. Adams went eight innings and only surrendered a solo to Brosius in the 8th. Flora-Bama 5-1 W – Adams (3-2), L – Hernandez (1-5) |
| Game #2: | Sheets vs. Person Berkman led off with a homer in 1st and the Mullets led 2-0 after 1. Guzman rbi single in 2nd put Michigan on the board. Berkman rbi single and Olerud two run homer forced Sheets to leave in the 2nd. Williams doubled in two in the 5th which tightened up the game until the Mullets exploded for 5 in the 6th. Olerud’s second homerun of drove in three. Person ran out of gas in the 9th and the pen allowed the inherited runners to score to tarnish his line. Flora-Bama 13-10 W – Person (5-1), L – Sheets (0-5) |
| Game #3: | Penny vs. Leiter Williams led off with homer and Brosius added a rbi single to give the Mauraders the early lead. They added two more in the 5th when Palmeiro took Leiter deep. Hunter’s two rbi single in the 7th cut the lead in half. Plesac and Wickman pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th to give Penny the win and Leiter his first loss of the year. Michigan 4-2 W – Penny (4-2), L – Leiter (6-1), S – Wickman (5) |
| Game #4: | Clement vs. Schilling Schilling’s first game as a Mullet didn’t go as planned. Palmero hit a two run homer off him in the 1st. In the 2nd, Surhoff tripled, Brosius doubled and Fordyce homered to make it 6-0 before he even got an out. Schilling managed to gut out five innings while Clement coasted through seven shutout innings. Michigan 9-2 W – Clement (2-3), L – Schilling (2-3) |
| Game #5: | Radke vs. Burnitz Piazza RBI single in 1st was the only run of the game until the 7th. Gonzalez doubled to put a a runner at 3rd and 2nd with no outs in the 7th, but Plesac limited the Mullets to only a sac fly. Wickman pitched a scoreless 8th for the Maurders. In the 9th, Burnett surrendered a two out double to Boone, but he got Halter to pop up for the complete game shutout. He also got his seasonal era under six. Flora-Bama 2-0 W – Burnitz (5-3), L – Radke (0-4) |
| Game #6: | Gonzalez RBI double in the 1st gave the Mullets the early lead until Anderson tied it with a solo in the 3rd. Berkman’s rbi single scored Kennedy in 3rd put the Mullets back on top. A Perez hit and run rbi double and Berkman single made it 4-1 in the 5th. Mullets added four more over 7th and 8th which allowed Adams to stay in and go the distance for the complete game. Flora-Bama 8-2 W – Adams (4-2), L – Hernandez (1-6) |
| Series Summary: | Flora-Bama’s two best pitchers were losers, but the team still manged to win the series 4-2 behind strong starting efforts from their other three starters. The recently acquired Schilling had a 12.35 ERA while soon to depart Adams had a 1.58 ERA and was 2-0 with 17 IP. Hopefully, Schilling turns it around next week with Adams departing for the AL Central. |
Monroeville Maulers @ Castle Rock Hounds |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Monroeville at Castle Rock. The Maulers sit at exactly .500, while the Hounds are 20-14 on the early season, but coming off a series loss to the Demolition. |
| Game #1: | Bonds gets the Hounds on the board with a solo HR to start the game, but that is about the only positive thing for Castle Rock, as the Maulers bats come alive on Chad Durbin, dropping 9 runs including a grand slam from Jose Hernandez in the 9 hole in the order. Oliver doesn’t give up anything after the Bonds homer and File finshes the game for Monroeville. The final is 9-1, Monroeville.
WP: Oliver (3-4) |
| Game #2: | Another home run to get the Hounds on the board first, as Luis Gonzalez takes Schmidt deep in the bottom of the first to give Castle Rock a 2-0 lead. Catalanotto cuts it in half with a solo HR in the top of the 4th off of Doug Davis. And Soriano gives the Maulers the lead with a 2-run shot in the top of the 6th. Bonds ties it with an RBI single to score Polanco in the bottom of the 6th. Guerrero provides a sac fly to give Monroeville the 4-3 lead in the 8th and that is how it ends. Final is 4-3, Monroeville and they take a 2-0 lead in the series.
WP: Schmidt (4-3) |
| Game #3: | A really short game as both Burkett and Tavarez were dealing for their respective teams. Burkett goes the full 9 innings, giving up just four hits (one homer to Soriano) and Tavarez gives up 6 hits (including a Snow homer) and the final is 2-1, Colorado.
WP: Burkett (6-1) |
| Game #4: | Monroeville lights into the Hounds pitching staff, collecting 12 runs on 17 hits and 3 walks. Guerrero and Glaus each have one homer and Jose Hernandez hits two (!) on the game. Einar Diaz adds two doubles as the hit parade would not stop. Castle Rock gets 13 hits, but can only manage 6 runs and the final is 12-6, Monroeville as they take the 3-1 series lead.
WP: Tollberg (3-0) |
| Game #5: | Castle Rock takes the early lead on a Luis Gonzalez RBI double, but Glaus hits a two-run homer to make it 2-1 in the top of the 6th and Wiki Gonzalez gets a 2-out RBI single to make it 3-1. Meanwhile, Darren Oliver is looking like Tom Glavine for the second game this series. Where oh where has the offense gone?? Monroeville adds a couple more to finish the game at 6-1. The fact that Darren Oliver (Grade 3) held this offense to 1 run in back-to-back games is amazing!
WP: Oliver (4-4) |
| Game #6: | Pettitte pitches a gem for Castle Rock, going the complete 9 and allowing 0 runs on 6 hits. Castle Rock bats do enough against Schmidt to get the 4-0 victory. Luis Gonzales has the odd stat line of 0 at-bats and 5 plate appearances (2 regular walks, 1 unintentional walk and 2 sacrifice flies). Snow goes 3-5 with 2 runs.
WP: Pettitte (3-3) |
| Series Summary: | Monroeville takes 4 of 6 from the Hounds, who let their bats take a siesta for this series. We hope they are back for our next one vs. Iowa. We put in our vote for Pitcher of the Week to Darren Oliver of Monroeville, who gave up just two earned runs in 15 innings of work, and picked up 2 victories (as a 3 grade). We also nominate Jose Hernandez of Monroeville for Hitter of the Week after going 9-20 with 3 doubles and 3 homers (including a grand slam) and 9 RBI. |
Danbury Mad Hatters @ Hampton Huskies |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | A series that promised to shake the very foundations of computer baseball saw Hampton host Danbury. |
| Series Summary: | As appropriate for a series that mattered not at all … nothing was settled and the teams split. |
Houghton Penguins @ Dondero Oaks |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | A battle of 2 last place teams. Houghton is much closer to .500 however and looking to strike against a bad starting rotation for Dondero. |
| Game #1: | Kirk Rueter was lights out getting a complete game 6 hit shutout. He only struck out 2 but let his defense do the job. Jeff Kent had 3 hits and 2 RBI while Matt Lawton also got himself 3 hits. Kevin Jarvis pitched well going 7 and only giving up 2 but it didn’t matter.
Houghton 4 W: K. Rueter (2-3) |
| Game #2: | Not sure where the Dondero bats came from but this game was an absolute BLOWOUT. The Oaks put up 20 runs on 21 hits. Paul Wilson throws a complete game 6 hitter while giving up 1 run in the 7th. But the story here, Reggie Sanders. He goes 5-6 hitting for the cycle. 2 of his hits were home runs, not just home runs but grand slams. 14 total bases and 12 RBIs. 12. Dante Bichette and Kelly Stinnett also homered.
Dondero 20 W: P. Wilson (4-3) |
| Game #3: | Okay things went back to normal. Dondero only plates 1 on 4 hits as Mark Buehrle becomes the 3rd pitcher in the series to throw complete game, this time just giving up 4 hits and the 1 run on a Bengie Molina solo shot in the 5th. Houghton scored 2 in the first on a Jose Cruz Jr. home run and then later got another 3 runs in the 4th.
Houghton 5 W: M. Buehrle (4-3) |
| Game #4: | Houghton guarantees themselves a series split in a game that saw Dondero out hit the Penguins but it didn’t matter. Albert Pujols, Miguel Tejada, and Raul Mondesi all hit solo shots for Houghton and Jose Acevedo got chased after 4. Ismel Valdez goes 8 innings and it is the first game without a complete game for one of these two teams. Cesar Izturis hit 2 solo shots for Dondero but the team still fell short.
Houghton 7 W: I. Valdez (2-2) |
| Game #5: | Dondero got themselves back in the series with the 5th good starting pitching performance of the series from these squads. Pedro Astacio goes 8.1 scoreless and Mariano Rivera shut the door when things got a little hairy in the top of the 9th. Jose Valentin went 2-4 with a HR and a 2B knocking in all 4 runs for Dondero.
Dondero 4 W: P. Astacio (2-1) |
| Game #6: | For the 6th time in as many 1 run games, Dondero lost. This game was a battle as both starters in game 1 were not as sharp in game 6. Jarvis went 5 and gave up 6 runs on 10 hits, Rueter went 6 and gave up 3 on 5 hits and 4 walks. Matt Lawton fell a triple shy of the cycle but had 3 RBI out of the leadoff spot. Cesar Izturis had a huge 2 run double for Dondero in the 8th to make it a 6-5 game. But in the 9th David Riske slammed the door shut with a scoreless 9th.
Houghton 6 W: K. Rueter (3-3) |
| Series Summary: | Houghton does the job and takes 4 of 6 from Dondero. Even though Dondero outscored Houghton 34-23 in the series, they could not spread out the runs having the 20 run eruption in game 2.
Reggie Sanders had 1 big game that skewed his stats for the series with a cycle and 2 grand slams. He hit .280 with 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 12 RBI and scored 5 times. |

Harper Woods Expos @ Fort Worth Panthers |
|
|---|---|
| Series Summary: | Panthers take 4 of 6 against the Expos. |
California Quakes @ Corktown Bootleggers |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Typical top/bottom matchup. No fear for California. We know George is cooking up something in the near future. |
| Game #1: | Corktown 5-3 |
| Game #2: | Corktown 8-3 |
| Game #3: | Corktown 6-0 |
| Game #4: | Corktown 8-2 |
| Game #5: | California 3-2 |
| Game #6: | Corktown 12-2 |
| Series Summary: | As expected Corktown takes the series in a dominating way. 5-1. California did snap Corktown’s 10 game winning streak by taking game 5. |
Long Beach Titans @ Manhattan Gas Hornets |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Manhattan keeps tweaking their roster – this week no different. Home facing the Titans – we need to win! |
| Game #1: | New starter Brandon Duckworth has a strong 6 innings yielding 2 runs. He leaves up 6-2, but Reliever Mike Williams blows it, giving up 4 runs in the 7th. Vidro smashes a 3 run double to pace the 4 run outburst. Fortunately Manhattan gets 5 runs in the bottom half to pull out the win, 11-6! |
| Game #2: | A 3 run 3rd for Manhattan propels them to a close 4-2 win as Matt Morris (W 6-2) comes through. Cirillo (6) homers for Long Beach. |
| Game #3: | Things really tighten up in this one as the Titans behind a 4 hit outburst from Jeff Cirillo (including homer #7) takes a 3-1 lead into the 8th. However, Gas Hornets tie it in the 8th on a Ray Durham 2 run homer (2) and then get the winning run on an Anderson walk-off single in the 9th (he also homered (4) in the 2nd). Final, 4-3 Gas Hornets. |
| Game #4: | Long Beach’s Lawrence and Manhattan’s Reed take the game scoreless into the bottom of the 6th. Durham then homers (3) for a 1-0 lead and Gas Hornets add 3 more runs in the 7th for a 4-0 lead. Reed keeps it that way through 8, Shaw blanks Long Beach in the 9th for the 4-0 win! |
| Game #5: | Scoring in each of the 3rd through 6th innings, Manhattan takes game 5 by an 8-3 score. All three Long Beach runs were solo homers – Burrell (4), Houston (4) and Guillen (2). And they only had 1 other hit in the game, a Nixon single. Gas Hornets crank out 14 hits including another Durham (4) homer! Wakefield goes to 5-1. |
| Game #6: | Fans bring brooms to the stadium hoping for the sweep. And after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the 2nd (Houston homer [5]), the Gas Hornets respond by scoring 4 runs in the bottom half. And it doesn’t stop there. Long Beach tacked on 2 in the 3rd making it 4-3 Manhattan and in the 7th it was 5-4 Manhattan when the roof dropped. Gas Hornets plate 5 in the 7th and another in the 8th. So a Fulmer homer (6) in the 9th made little difference. 20 hits and 11 runs by Manhattan were plenty to complete the sweep. Kendall homers (4) and goes 3 for 5 with 3 rbis to lead the attack. Stairs (6) and Anderson (5) also homer. Duckworth (1-0) gets first Manhattan win. |
| Series Summary: | So, Gas Hornets get the sweep and keep some pressure on the others in the NL East. But next week we go on the road to face NL Central leaders, Gladstone!! We better be sharp for that matchup. |
Valdosta Bombers @ Blarney Drive Bandits |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | 2nd place NL Central Bombers vs NL West leading (for now anyway) Bandits for 6 games. |
| Game #1: | Bombers drop 3 doubles and 2 HRs en route to a convincing game 1 win. Ramirez, Sexson and Finley all with multi RBI day.
VB 8 BDB 3 W: Towers (5-2) |
| Game #2: | 2-2 heading into the 8th as both lefties (Hampton and Moyer) match each other over 7+ innings of 2-run ball. It would be Ramirez delivering the GW in the 8th for Valdosta.
VB 3 BDB 2 W: Mpyer (6-2) |
| Game #3: | Late inning shenanigans! Up 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 9th, Patterson allows a double to Cora, walks Klesko and then serves up a 3-run jimmy-jack to Giles. Looks like Patterson has seen this movie before as he collect his 2nd blown save and 3rd loss early on. Blarney finally gets a W against tough Valdosta.
VB 4 BDB 6 W: Weathers (3-1) |
| Game #4: | The Big Unit is rewarded for going the distance after allowing just 4 hits and striking out 11. Bottom of the 9th, in a 3-3 game, Blarney summons the magic again vs.Timlin and Darensbourg and plate the game winner. Back to back walk-offs has the home crowd going nuts again.
VB 3 BDB 4 W: Johnson (6-0) |
| Game #5: | The Bandits score in bunches, 4 in the 2nd and 4 in the 8th, to make it 3 W’s in a row. They are winning with the bats this year. Ramirez (3 for 3) has been on fire for The Bombers.
VB 3 BDB 8 W: Wells (2-2) |
| Game #6: | Towers vs. Pokopec, part deux, is a must see. Towers goes the distance, and Luke 8 full, but Man-Ram continues his torried series with a 3-4 day and driving in the only run.
VB 1 BDB 0 W: Towers (6-2) |
| Series Summary: | Teams split a hard fought series 3-3. |
Chicago Demolition @ DeWitt Tigers |
|

| Game #1: | CHI 13 DEW 11 |
| Game #2: | DEW 4 CHI 0 |
| Game #3: | CHI 8 DEW 5 |
| Game #4: | DEW 11 CHI 5 |
| Game #5: | DEW 3 CHI 0 |
| Game #6: | CHI 5 DEW 4 |
| Series Summary: | Chicago travels to DeWitt and the teams split a very competitive series. Dewitt actually outscored Chicago for the series. |
Baltimore Blue Crabs @ Hollywood Vampires |

| Series Summary: | Hollywood takes 4 of 6. |
