QUAKES

PREVIEW –  The American League Central and West Division Champions, Harper Woods Expos (97-65) and California Quakes (116-46), meet up in the American League Championship Series. California enters the series with the overall advantage in defense and offense. The Quakes led the Expos in pitching during the regular season, with the Quakes and Expos holding team ERAs of 2.77 and 3.91, respectively, but held only marginal advantages both defensively and offensively. California’s defense boasted a .983 fielding percentage while giving up only 62 unearned during the regular season, while the Expos nearly matched this with a .983 fielding percentage and 63 unearned runs. 2001 NATIONAL LEAGUE WILD CARD ROUND

Valdosta

Bombers

Manhattan

Gas Hornets

PREVIEW – The National League Wild Card features a match-up of a couple of last season’s division winners, Valdosta (NL Central) and Manhattan (NL East). This year – wild card teams with the Bombers finishing with a 90-72 record, the Gas Hornets 98-64. Manhattan held a big 9-3 lead in the season series but the Bombers hold the edge in runs scored (855-796), but the Gas Hornets have the better avg, obp and a slightly better era (3.67 – 4.04). Defensively they are about the save – except in ONE BIG AREA, Stolen Bases. Teams don’t steal (run) on the Bombers, but it’s a cake-walk against Kendall and the Gas Hornets. Running is a key Manhattan weapon.

Prediction:
If the Gas Hornets bats are not tamed, it should be an easy time for Manhattan – but it the Bombers can keep the Manhattan bats relatively tamed, it could be anyone’s series, especially since they can control the basepaths. Gas Hornets in 3??
