2001 A.L. DIVISION SERIES #1

Chicago

Demolition

@

Fort Worth

Panthers

PREVIEW – The upcoming Division Series between the Chicago Demolition and the Fort Worth Panthers promises to be a thrilling matchup. Chicago, with a record of 101-61, finished second in the competitive American League Central, where three out of four teams boasted winning records. Meanwhile, Fort Worth topped the American League West with a 107-55 record, despite the division having two teams with sub-.352 winning percentages. Both teams are evenly matched, having split their 12 regular-season encounters. Fort Worth leads the league in hitting, while Chicago boasts the best pitching staff. Conversely, Chicago ranks third in hitting, and Fort Worth holds the same position in pitching.

Given these dynamics, the series odds are quite balanced. With Fort Worth’s superior hitting and Chicago’s dominant pitching, the series could go either way, but Fort Worth might have a slight edge due to their overall record and offensive prowess. Expect a closely contested series that could potentially go the distance.

2001 NATIONAL LEAGUE WILD CARD ROUND

Valdosta

Bombers

@

Manhattan

Gas Hornets

PREVIEW – The National League Wild Card features a match-up of a couple of last season’s division winners, Valdosta (NL Central) and Manhattan (NL East). This year – wild card teams with the Bombers finishing with a 90-72 record, the Gas Hornets 98-64. Manhattan held a big 9-3 lead in the season series but the Bombers hold the edge in runs scored (855-796), but the Gas Hornets have the better avg, obp and a slightly better era (3.67 – 4.04). Defensively they are about the save – except in ONE BIG AREA, Stolen Bases. Teams don’t steal (run) on the Bombers, but it’s a cake-walk against Kendall and the Gas Hornets. Running is a key Manhattan weapon.

Prediction:
If the Gas Hornets bats are not tamed, it should be an easy time for Manhattan – but it the Bombers can keep the Manhattan bats relatively tamed, it could be anyone’s series, especially since they can control the basepaths. Gas Hornets in 3??
