GOLDEYES SELECT TOM GLAVINE #1

The management team of the Winnipeg Goldeyes with the first pick of the 1987 draft are thrilled to announce that we are selecting pitcher Thomas Michael Glavine. Tom will be the signature player of our team for the next decade or even two. The 6 six tall and 175 lb lefty was first noticed by our scouts as a Hockey player from Massachusetts, who was also drafted by the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL.

We feel that this A grade scholar both in school and  on the baseball field will develop into one of the smartest pitchers of all time.  Tom is such as complete athlete we think he will help his own cause with the bat winning more than a few silver slugger awards in his career. We are proud to believe in #47 and will make history by giving him a 20 year contract with Winnipeg worth over 130 million dollars.

While Baseball America and the media will be critical of this first overall pick with higher ranked players like Shawn Abner, Tim Belcher and BJ Surhoff on the board we feel Tom Glavine has the stuff mentally and physically to be our franchise player. It amy take him a little while to adjust to the major leagues but he will be there and fans will find his pinpoint control and change a delight to watch.
