Game #4:  The home team gets three in the first, third and eighth innings to back up Ricky Bones. FFS wins it 9-3
Game #5:  Jason Grimsley gets the spot start and gets completely shelled for 9 runs in 3.2 innings. Jugs win it going away 9-3.
Series Summary:  Mediocre performance by the Squirrels who take two of three but feel like they should have done better.

Game #1:  Dennis Martinez scattered 7 hits and 5 walks in such a way only 1 Bandit scored. Tim Belcher matched Martinez’s effort allowing just a solo shot over 7 innings. Randy Myers quickly shakes up a little 2-run homer cocktail and the game is over. Big-Daddy Fielder produced the game winning bomb in the 8th.

Game #2:  Joey Hamilton keeps things consistent allowing just 1 run over 6 frames. That’s all the pitching Long Beach would need as the rain ended this one early. Even with shortened game, Titan bats were able to pound out 13 hits.

Game #3:  Took until the 12th for this one to be decided, again, by Randy Meyers. Randy Johnson continues his hard luck year with a no-decision despite going 9 full and allowing just 3 hits and 3 runs. The Titans were efficient today scoring 4 on just 5 hits.

Game #4:  David Wells cauterized the Bandits’ wounds with a complete game and helped conjure up a W. West pitched a good game allowing just 2 runs over 7 innings but Wells was a touch better.

Game #5:  Teams enjoy a no-stoppin-the-toppins sundae bar with 29 hits and 20 runs. Titans’ Smith had a big 3-5 4 RBI day and 8 of their 9 regulars collected at least 1 hit. Greenwell led the Bandit atatck with a 4 RBI day.

Hampton Huskies @ Sugar Land Skeeters
Series Preview:  Battle of two first-place teams in Texas.
Game #1:  Gardner’s pinch-hit two-run triple in the ninth breaks a 2-2 tie and Hampton wins, 4-3. Sugar Land gets their three runs on solo homers by Gibson (9), Thome (7), and Daulton (4). Jones saves it for Yorkis Perez. Henry takes the loss in relief.
Game #2:  Griffey smacks two homers (18!) and drives in 4 (48) and Freeman pitches six strong innings as SLS wins 9-1. Freeman moves to 4-1, 5.45.
Game #3:  Griffey doubles and smacks another homer (19) as does Alou (9) and Sugar Land rolls, 10-3. Trying to mop up, Langston is injured for 11 days. Henry is mistakenly inserted as the starter hence the short stint. I misfigured his fatigue since he had last pitched in relief and not started.
Game #4:  Alvarez (5-2, 4.55)pitches eight strong innings and Gibson has two hits and two RBI (31) and Sugar Land squeaks out a 4-2 win. Hudek (8) gets the save.
Game #5:  Martin gets two triples (4) and McRae has a 3-run homer but Hamelin (6) and Pirkl (who?) homer for Sugar Land who wins, 6-4. Six different Skeeters drive in runs. Saberhagen is shaky but get in eight innings to move to 5-1, 3.88. Deleon with the save (2)
Series Summary:  Sugar Land wins four of five flexing their muscles with nine homers in the five games. Please add Langston to the 10-day DL. Griffey has three homers but not much else. Thome gets hits in all five games.

Tennessee Crackers @ Germantown Grays
Series Preview:  A 5-game set between Tennessee and the Germantown Grays.
Game #1:  The Crackers sends Danny Jackson (1-1) to face Grays Jim Bullinger (2-0). Grays start fast with Alomar’s leadoff triple followed by a Brumfield sacrifice fly in the 1st. Three singles followed to load the bases with one outs. Thomas scored on a Sanders grounder and James on a Pena single. Grays 3-0. In the 2nd, Grays Alomar singled and Thomas stroked a 2-out 2-run homer, 5-0.

Game #2:  Crackers Rijo (2-1) was sent against Grays Finley (3-2). Crackers Canseco, Weiss and Girardi string together singles for a runin the 2nd. Canseco smacked a 2run homer in the 6th to make it 3-0. ijo stroked an RBI single later in the inning. Thomas makes it a 2-run game in the 8th with his second homer of the series.

Game #3:  Crackers send Jim Abbott (4-1) up against Grays Smoltz (2-2). Grays start off the scoring with a Webster solo shot in the 2nd. Almoar added his solo shot in the 3rd. In the 6th Madagan and Weiss singled and PH Jefferson doubled to score a run, 2-1. Phillips singled to tie it. With 2-out in the 8th Grays Litton pitch hit and reached on an error. Alomar brought him all the way around with his second triple of the series. Grays 3-2.

Game #4:  Reyes (1-1) for the Crackers and Vanlandingham (2-0) for the Grays. Grays fill the bases in the 1st and Reyes walked a run home. Grays Tarasco strokes a solo shot in the 4th, 2-0. Mack leads off the 7th with a double and Caminiti singled him home, 3-0. Sanders singled Caminiti home.

Game #5:  Crackers finish the series with ace Jacome (0-6) versus Grays ace Appier (1-1). Grays Thomas and James bang back-to-back doubles in the 1st. Canseco gives the Crackers the lead in the 5th with a 2-run shot. Crackers Wilkins banged an RBI double in the 6th, 3-1.
