Series Preview:	The closest race in the AL may be the race for the final wild card spot between the Panthers and the Mavericks. Entering this series Portland has a 6.5 game lead on Ft. Worth. On the league leader boards the Panthers are 4th in batting at .259, 4th in runs scored, on top in stolen bases with 84, and 4th in ERA at 3.64. For the Mavericks they are 3rd in batting at .275, 4th in home runs with 85, 3rd in runs, 3rd in slugging, and 3rd in on base percentage.
Game #1:	Both teams hit sac fly for runs and singled in runs. Game #2:	Aaron Sele was brilliant for Portland nearly pitching a CG before tiring out in the 9th and Mark Carreon hit two home runs driving in 3. Final Score: Mavericks 6, Panthers 3 Aaron Sele, W, 4-3 Danny Cox, S, 9 Jim Abbott, L , 8-9
Game #3:	Walt Weiss provides all the offense Ft. Worth needed driving in 2 with a single and a double while the Panthers nearly shut out the Mavericks. The only blemish was Rick Honeycutt allowing a run in the 7th. Final Score: Panthers 2, Mavericks 1 Rick Honeycutt, BS 2; W, 4-2 Steve Bedrosian, S, 12 Roger Pavlik, L, 5-7
Game #4:	Clark error loaded the bases in the 7th with two outs. It ended a streak of 62 straight games with out an error for Clark. Down 2 zip Pudge Rodriguez stepped up, “Ivan showing occasional power … he’s slugging .394 he has 23 extra base hits in his 266 plate appearances. The runners take their lead … the pitch … RODRIGUEZ tomahawks it into the gap CARTER hustles after it … KELLY scores easily … WINFIELD comes around third and scores tie game! … JORDAN’s around third they’re waving JORDAN in here comes the throw home here’s the play at the plate … and he’s … safe…ahead of the throw and RODRIGUEZ holds with a double. Game #5:	Trailing by a run Portland’s Phil Plantier faced Mike Jackson with two outs in the 9th, “The pitch … swing and a fly ball … pretty well hit … right field … may not be caught it’s history! … home run for PLANTIER … PLANTIER will touch all the bases and he’s sure taking his time. So PLANTIER has his 19th homer … oh, those MAVERICKS … they have tied this game and this crowd has gone silent … 49 ribbies now for PLANTIER” The Mavericks had a chance to go ahead in the top of the 10th after they loaded the bases with a single, error, and walk, but Kevin Rogers worked his magic to put out the fire. First he struck out Jeff Conine then Chuck Knoblauch came up hoping to be the hero, “Infield back at double play depth … the runners take their lead … now he comes home with it grounded to REBOULET … he scoops it up … goes to second for one … back to first double play! … and they get out of the inning … and ROGERS is pumped!” In the bottom of the 10th, Fred McGriff came up for his 2nd PA of the game, “Fred MCGRIFF will get it started for the PANTHERS Fred collected a free pass his first time at the plate … Fred can pound the ball slugging a zesty .532 … MCGRIFF has good speed with his power. Left-hander OROSCO ready. Series Summary:	Very competitive series that was closer than Ft. Worth’s 4 game to 1 looked. Ft. Worth appears to have the advantage the remainder of the season with the opponents they play as they face only 1 winning team and a combined winning percentage of .380. Portland faces 5 winning teams and their opponents winning percentage is .528. However the Mavericks do appear to be a better road team so they could still hold off the Panthers for the final AL playoff spot.

Michigan Marauders @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Series Preview:	Rivals Michigan and Manhattan meet in a game for to who holds the middle of the NL East Pack.
Game #1:	Well after 4 solo homers Williams (6), Burnitz (3), Palmeiro (16) and Ripken (7) it became a cake walk. Ripken (8) later adds a 2 run shot and the Mauraders run away with it 10-2. Nagy – 6 strong innings. MIC 10-16-0 WP Nagy (1-1) MHG 2- 9-1 LP Smith (1-5)
Game #2:	Hershiser starts for Manhattan and is quickly staked to a 3-0 lead after 2. But the Mauraders begin to chip away with single runs in the 3rd, 5th and 6th. Then in the 9th they get another. Anderson drives in 2 in the game, Williams a SF (got nothing on his triple). But in the 9th with 2 out and runners on the corners, Krueter hits a 2 run double to win the game! MIC 4- 8-0 LP Henneman (3-6) BS 7 MGH 5-12-0 WP Hershiser (7-6)
Game #3:	After 3 run Michigan 1st – Boone hits a 2 out bases loaded double, the Gas Hornets begin a comeback. They get one in the 1st, then a 3 run Fermin homer (2) in the 4th gives them the lead. Mauraders tie it in the 6th, but Gas Hornets get 2 in the bottom half. Then the teams match runs in the 8th and it Harris finishes the last 2 for the save. Game #4:	Michigan says it’s enough and get their bats going. After falling behind 1-0 in the 1st and Dave Stewart pitching great, the 7th inning appears. Mauraders plate 5 runs enroute to a 6-1 win. Brett drives in 2, Palmerio 3 hits lead the way. Guzman goes 8, 7 hits and 6 ks. Twice the team stopped based loaded with no outs! MIC 6-13-1 WP Guzman (5-8) MGH 1- 7-1 LP Stewart (4-4)
Game #5:	Morgan goes 6.2 and leaves with the score 3-1 Michigan. Plesac and Henneman keep the Gas Hornets at bay and the Mauraders tack on 1 more for the 4-1 win. Anderson, Gaetti and Castilla rack up 2 hits each. Tino hits one out (8) for Manhattan. MIC 4-11-0 WP Morgan (5-9) S Henneman (17) MGH 1- 8-1 LP Pichardo (2-8)
Game #6:	Gas Hornets interupt the Mauraders run with a 6-3 win. Big inning was the 4th when Gas Hornets get 4 runs across the plate. Kreuter hits 2 run homer (8) and it’s 6-0 after 4. Smith gets roughed up for 2 in the 5 and another in the 6th, but he toughens up and Jones gets the save. Williams gets 2 hits (double) and 2 rbis.
Game #7:	OK – things something just don’t go the way they should. Manhattan scores 1st with 2 in the 1st (Alicea homer – 1). Teams match runs in the 2nd then Burnitz ties it with a 2 run homer (5) in the 3rd. They again match runs in the 4th and 5th. Gas Hornets then score in the 7th – 2 runs to include insurance (7-5). Cole has 3 hits in the game, missing the cycle by a homer). But then the Mauraders raid the kitchen in the 8th and with a Ripken 2 run homer (9), Michagan rattles in 5 runs in the 8th and another in the 9th – so Harris was worthless and Michigan gets 13 hits (and 5 walks). Series Summary:	Michigan takes the series 4-3 to retain sole possession of 3rd. Mauraders head to Valdosta next week and the Gas Hornets (after a 1 week stint at homer) goes to Blarney Drive for five.
