Ashby wins his 1st as he gives up 1 run over 7.2 innings. Robin Yount hits a homer. Nagy takes the tough loss for Michigan.

Summary
Manhattan wins 6 of 7. Michigan won game 1, but then loses 6 straight. This was a series that Michigan did not show up. The hitting was atrocious. Michigan is now 2-10 at home!

Summary
Sluggers nearly pull off the sweep – with the only loss comign in ace Dennis Martinez‘s start against 3YZ Erik Hanson. Baseball is a funny game.

 

Valdosta  Bombers @ Long  Beach Titans
Game #1:
Valdosta jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the 5th as they pounded Valera. Long Beach chipped away at the lead and got it to 6-4 in the 9th when they put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Franco got Howard to pop to short to end the game.
Game #2:
Valdosta took the lead again, this time 3-0 after 6 innings. Long Beach was still behind 3-1 going to the 9th. They cut the lead to 3-2 on a Smith RBI 1B and had the tying run on base when Franco came in to retire Baerga and Pendleton to record his 4th save of the year.
Game #3:
Long Beach took an early 2-0 but Valdosta chipped away at the lead and went ahead for good on a Sax RBI 1B. Karros added a 2 run HR in the 8th and Valdosta won 5-3.
Game #4:
Long Beach opened the scoring in the 2nd on a Viola run scoring 1B. They went on to open a big lead and won 7-1. Reimer keyed the offense with a 2B, HR and 3 RBI.
Game #5:
Valdosta jumped on Tomlin early and knocked him out of the game in the 2nd inning on the way to a 5-1 win. Osborne went the distance giving up just 7 hits. Finley had 2 RBI to lead the Bombers’ offense.
Summary
Valdosta came to Long Beach and won 4 of 5.

Janesville  Juggernauts @ Flossmoor  Flying Squirrels
Preview
Flossmoor and Janesville hook up in a division battle.
Game #1:

No score to the bottom of the third when the Squirrels load the bases with one out. Bagwell K’s but Fryman is drilled in the back to force in a run. Palmer strikes out to minimize the damage.Juggs take the lead in the fourth, Tartabull doubles and Bonilla follows with a homer.Janesville adds two more in the 8th to make it 4-1 and that is the final.

Game #2:

Home side takes a 1-0 lead in the 3rd on Puckett’s two out double.

In the 4th the Squirrels get the first two aboard and then Karkovice unloads for a three run bomb. 4-0 FFS

Sosa gets the Juggernauts on the board in the 6th with a solo shot.

Worrell and Olson take it the rest of the way for a 4-1 win for Flossmoor.

Game #3: Scoreless to the 4th when Flossmoor gets a two out double from Baines to score Fryman. 1-0 FFSIn the bottom of the 5th the first two batters for the Squirrels reach and it’s second and third with nobody out. An RBI ground out and a sac fly bring home the runs and it is 3-0 FFS after five.In the 6th Puckett leads off with a walk, then a hit and run with Bagwell puts runners at the corners. Fryman hits a sac fly to score Kirby and Baines walks to chase Wakefield from the game. Palmer follows with a single to score Bagwell and Taubensee singles to score Baines. 6-0 home team after six innings.

That is plenty for Greg Hibbard, who gets upgraded from a 5 to a 20 by the end of his complete game shutout.

Game #4:

Flossmoor on the board first in the 2nd on Sierra’s RBI single scoring Palmer.Tony Fernandez ties it up with a clutch two out single in the third.Squirrels take the lead in the 5th after a leadoff double by Karkovice and a pair of groundouts. 2-1 FFS

Back to back doubles by Fryman and Palmer score another Squirrels run in the 6th.

Maddux goes the distance allowing just 2 hits. Squirrels win it 3-1.

Game #5:

A five run 3rd for Janesville is capped by a grand slam by Luis Gonzalez as David Cone continues to struggle.Flossmoor gets a pair back in the bottom of the inning. 5-2 JJG after three.Nothing much until the bottom of the 9th when the Squirrels bring the tying run to the plate and Sharperson hits one deep to the wall…but it’s caught to end the game. Janesville wins it 5-2.

Game #6:

Flossmoor with a run in the first on a Bagwell sac fly.

Still 1-0 to the 8th when Sierra and Gant reach to open the bottom half of the inning. Puckett follows with an RBI single. Fryman’s RBI ground out adds another one. Karkovice continues his solid series with a two-RBI single with the bases loaded and two out.

Charlton comes in to lock it down for Key and the Squirrels, who win it 5-0.
 

Game #7:
Janesville gets a run in the 6th of a scoreless game to take the lead 1-0.And that is all they need. Cormier tosses 8.2 innings of scoreless ball and Plunk gets Bagwell to line out to the gap with the tying run at second to end it.
Summary
Flossmoor take four of seven but their inability to score in the finale costs them a chance at a big series win. The struggles continue for the Flying Squirrels offense, with most of the team hitting around or under .200.

 

Forth Worth  Panthers @ Chicago  Demolition
Preview
Chicago just trying to stay above water & float this season takes on a heavy contender in Forth Worth.
Summary
Dallas takes the series 4 games to 3.  Two of the Chicago wins were walk offs.  One being a 2-Home Run Walk off & the other a Wild Pitch Walk off.
