Game #1: Dennis Martinez (16-8 2.57) vs. Mike Morgan (18-8 2.77)

Game 1 featured Sluggers Martinez (16-8, 2.57) v. Grays Morgan (18-6, 2.77) was goose eggs for 5 and 1/2 innings until Grays SP Morgan sparked the Grays offense with a lead-off single. Alomar followed with a FC, Jose a beautiful hit and run grounder through the hole at second, Thomas and Mack singles, and a MacFarlane 3-run homer. Within 6 batters it became 5-0.

Game 2. Sluggers Belcher (12-12, 2.45) faced Grays Finley (15-9, 3.01). Grays jump out with a 3 spot in the 1st. Jose reaches and a Sabo error and Thomas went deep for 2. Mack than tripled and Martinez lifted a SF. Both teams pitching then shut down the offenses.

Series moves to Steel City for Game 3.  Pitchers dual all the way as the Sluggers were not willing to concede. MacFarlane put the Grays on top in the 2nd with a solo shot. Sluggers Fisk tied it up in the 5th with a 2-out single scoring Sabo from 2nd. The Grays retook the lead in their next at bat when Jose tripled and Thomas banged one through a pulled in infield.

Summary: Another year, another disappointing playoff run for Steel City.   Congrats to Germantown; they’re going to be a force in the post season.  Not sure was it Grays pitching out pitching the better Slugger staff or the Grays field players upping their game. In any case the Grays put together an outstanding team effort to down the Sluggers 3 games to none. Congrats to Steel City on a fine season.
