1988 ALL-STAR GAME

The 1988 Mid-West Winter League All-Star Game was held on Sunday November 6th, 1988 in Manhattan at the home of the Gas Hornets.

30 Players from the American League & 30 players from the National League squared off in the 19th MWWL All-Star Game.  The American League has a 15 to 3 lead in the All-Star Games, would 1988 fair different?

David Cone (21-7 1.84) reigning American League Cy Young Award Winner vs. Rick Reuschel (28-7  2.20) the National League Cy Young Award Winner.

T1 – A.L. – Kirby Pucket Scores on a hard lined single  over second by Barry Larkin.
B2 – N.L. – Terry Steinbach takes Cone deep to center for a 2 Run Home Run.
T3 – A.L. – Kent Hrbek pinch hitting for David Cone, ties the game up at 2 with a solo Home Run.
With the bases loaded pinch hitter Paul Molitor walks for an easy RBI & a 3-2 American League Lead.
T4 – A.L. – After a  Darryl Strawberry lead off Triple, Jeff Robinson uncorks a wild pitch to put the A.L. up 4-2.
Lance Parrish scores from first base on a Wade Boggs Double to right.
After a passed ball by Steinbach moving Boggs to third, Kirby Puckett singles into the hole past Gary Gaetti.
With runners now at 1st & 2nd, Paul Molitor doubles scoring Puckett & Bonds putting the A.L. up 8-2.
B4 – N.L. –  Steinbach takes Eric Show deep for a solo Home Run for the National League.   A.L. Up 8-3.
B5 – N.L. – Mike Greenwell scores from 2nd, on a Dave Henderson single to left.  Score A.L. 8 – N.L. 4.
T6 – A.L. – Bobby Bonilla Triples to right – scoring Kirby Puckett & Barry Larkin.
After a walk to Johnny Ray and runners now at 1st and 3rd, Joe Carter replaces Strawberry and Doubles deep center, scoring Bonilla & Ray – A.L. 12 – N.L. 4.
B7 – N.L. – A Gary Gaetti Double scores two runs for the National League.  A.L. 12 – N.L. 6

The American League held it from there using Rob Dibble from Detroit in the 8th inning, and Dennis Eckersely from Chicago in the 9th.

Kirby Puckett was named the 1988 All-Star Game MVP going 5 for 6 including a Double with 4 Run scored, an RBI .
