· Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Manhattan Gas Hornets |
Series Preview |
Winnipeg (8-23) visits Manhattan (21-10) – on paper it doesn’t look good for Winnigep, but you know they say the games aren’t played on paper! Electrons can have their way. |
| Game #1: | G1 – Knudsen (1-1, 4.38 era) vs. Clancy (3-2, 2.81 era) Clancy, tossing a perfect game through 3, saw it all go up in smoke in the 4th as the Goldeyes erupt for 5 runs on 4 hits, a walk and a HBP. The 5 runs gives Winnipeg a 5-4 lead going into the 5th. Lead short lived as Gas Hornets retake the lead on Stanley rbi single and an E5, 6-5 Manhattan. Jacoby adds a little insurance in 7th with a solo shot (12) off Searge. Incaviglia rbi triple and Valle single tie the game in the 8th at 7-7. Brookens double, barely fair, down the line gives the Goldeyes the lead, 8-7 in the 8th. Bergman follows with another rbi, 9-7, Winnipeg now has the insurance. With 2 out in bottom of the 9th Alfredo Griffin comes to the plate with the bases loaded. Havens came if for the 9th, Joyner led off and reached on E4. Dawson and Jacoby strike out. Felder PH – singles to right on a ball that looked like it’d stay up, Joyner to 3rd and Felder took second on the throw. Williams then it HPB to load the bases setting the stage for Griffin. He grounds it toward short – and it gets by the outstretched Brookens, Joyner and Felder score to tie the game. Davis follows with a shot to the RF side that goes into the corner, Williams scores from 2nd and the game is over 10-9 Manhattan. WP – Righetti (3-1) LP Havens (0-2) and BS 2 |
Game #2: |
G2 – Whitson (2-3, 5.3 era) vs. Z.Smith (3-0, 3.41 era) |
Game #3: |
G3 – Moyer (2-3, 3.98 era) vs. Wegman (0-2, 9.60 era) |
| Game #4: | G4 – Bosio (1-2, 4.07 era) vs. Alexander (1-2, 3.43 era) Biggest stat through 5 innings is Alexander walking off the mound to start the 6th, looks like a DL trip as he will be gone for at least 13 days. Score knotted at goose eggs at the time. RBI double by Yount in the 6th changes that as Manhattan breaks on top 1-0. Jacoby smashes 2 out double to make it 2-0 (right after Davis fans for the 3rd time in the game). In the 7th, the Goldeyes get some magic going and score on rbi single by Brookens. When the ball gets past Almon in LF, Wilson tries to score from 1st, but Almon’s throw cuts him down for the 2nd out – and limiting the scoring to 1 run on the play, Brookens gets to 3rd. Almon double, Griffin single and Moreland PH infield single get the run back to open the bottom half of the 7th and a Joyner single gets a 4th run, 4-1 Manhattan. Reed pitches the 8th and 9th for his 4th save. Hudson the winner (2-1) in relief of the injured Alexander. Bosio (2-4) the loss. |

Cedar Park get 5 runs on only 4 hits off Witt, then pound RP Assenmacher (BS-1) for the tying runs. The Bears play long ball, Polonia, Puckett, Pasqua and Royster lead their comeback.
