Southlake Stealers @ California Quakes

Series Summary: Southlake takes 5 of 6 from California.

Valdosta Bombers @ Flora-Bama Mullets

Series Preview: Valdosta comes to FLora-Bama currently at the top or the bottom of the NL Central.
Game #1: Lawrence worked around solo homers from Finley and Ramirez.
Flora-Bama 6-3
Game #2: Ohka threw a complete game and Wells, Inge, and Ramriez homered.
Valdosta 5-3
Game #3: Bombers rallied for three in the 6th to tie it up, but Meche couldn’t hold the Mullets in the bottom half. Ramirez moved to 3-0.
Flora-Bama 6-3
Game #4: Larue threw out three runners at second and the Mullets left schools of fish on the bases. Schilling gave up two runs to lose a shutout and the game in the 8th. Some guy named Cornholio or something gave up one in the 1st and then went the distance.
Valdosta 2-1
Game #5: Bigbie hit a two out two run homer in the bottom of the 9th off Valverde to spoil a well pitched game from Moyer.
Flora-Bama 4-3
Game #6: Berrora smacked a three run homer in the 4th as Simontacchi’s smoke and mirrors show finally failed. Wolf looked much better in this game.
Flora-Bama 8-2
Series Summary: The Mullets finished their home stand with a 4-2 series win, but it would have been 5-1 if the running game in game four wasn’t miss-managed.

Fort Worth Panthers @ Chicago Demolition

Series Preview: The matchup sees a classic clash between pitching dominance and offensive firepower as the Chicago Demolition (9-7) host the Fort Worth Panthers (12-4). While Chicago possess a legendary trio of talent that could carry any club to glory. Fort Worth, however, blending elite defense with relentless bats.
The Panthers hold a clear advantage in team-wide consistency, reflected in their impressive win total. But in a short series, the Demolition’s two Hall-of-Fame-caliber aces, Pedro Martínez and Roger Clemens, have the power to shut down even the most potent lineup. This series will likely come down to whether Chicago’s hitters can produce enough offense to support their legendary rotation, or if Fort Worth’s deep lineup can simply wear down the Demolition’s pitching staff.Given Fort Worth’s superior regular-season record (12-4 vs. 9-7) and more consistent lineup, they are the clear favorites, though the Demolition’s top-end pitching talent makes an upset a real possibility.
Game #1: In a tightly contested pitching duel, the Chicago Demolition edged out the Fort Worth Panthers 1-0. The Demolition scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the 1st inning when Scott Stewart ripped an RBI double to score Edgar Renteria, who had singled to lead off the frame.

Fort Worth starter Kevin Brown pitched admirably, allowing just the one earned run on three hits over seven innings, but took the hard-luck loss. On the mound for Chicago, starter Kevin Millwood was outstanding, delivering seven scoreless innings, striking out five, and scattering six hits. Fort Worth threatened in the 9th, putting runners on first and second with two outs, but closer Billy Wagner sealed the victory with a strikeout to end the game.

Final Score: Fort Worth 0 – Chicago 1

Win: Kevin Millwood 1-1 (2.87)
Loss: Kevin Brown 2-2 (2.54)
Save: Billy Wagner #5

Game #2: The Panthers secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Demolition in a low-scoring affair dominated by pitching. The Panthers broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 5th inning, starting with a solo home run by Karim Garcia. Following a double by Scott Hillenbrand and a single by Luis Rivas, the Panthers plated their second run when Hillenbrand scored, making the score 2-0.

Starting pitcher Hideo Nomo (Panthers) was excellent, going 6.2 innings, allowing 5 hits and walking 5, but keeping the Demolition off the board. Relief pitcher Brian Shouse held the lead, and Joe Borowski closed the 9th inning to earn his 7th save. Despite a solid performance of 7.1 innings with 2 runs allowed on 5 hits, Demolition starter Roger Clemens suffered the loss.

Final Score: Panthers 2 – Demolition 0

Win: Hideo Nomo 2-0 (2.16)
Loss: Roger Clemens 1-1 (2.60)
Save: Joe Borowski #7

Game #3: The Panthers edged out the Demolition 4-3 in a thrilling, extra-inning battle. Fort Worth jumped out to an early lead on first-inning home runs by Gary Sheffield (two-run) and Adam Melhuse (solo) in the second, putting them up 3-0.

The Demolition fought back in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game on a dramatic two-out, two-run homer by Tony Batista (3-3). The pitching took over from there, with both bullpens silencing the bats until the 10th.

In the top of the 10th, Carl Crawford broke the tie with a solo home run to put the Panthers ahead 4-3. Closer Scott Williamson then secured the win for Fort Worth, retiring the Demolition in order in the bottom of the 10th on a game-ending double play.

Final Score: Fort Worth 4 – Chicago 3

Win: Matt Herges 1-0 (1.54)
Loss: Joe Brower 0-1 (3.86)
Save: Scott Williamson #2

Game #4: Chicago (Demolition) mounted a thrilling comeback to defeat Fort Worth (Panthers) 8-7 in a tight contest.

Fort Worth jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the top of the first after Chicago starter J. Westbrook was pulled just two-thirds of an inning in. The Demolition clawed back, powered by Mike Kinkade‘s solo home run in the 4th, pushing the score to 7-2. However, the Panthers erupted for five runs in the 6th and 7th innings, tying the game at 7-7, thanks to two home runs (Sheffield and Guillen) and an RBI single from Aurilia. Chicago secured the win in the bottom of the 7th when Tony Batista hit an RBI single to plate Shannon Stewart for the 8-7 lead. Closer Billy Wagner shut down the Panthers in the final two innings to seal the victory.

Final Score: Chicago 8 – Fort Worth 7

Win: Brendan Donnley 1-1 (2.08)
Loss: Wil Cunnane 0-1 (20.25)
Save: Billy Wagner #6

Game #5: The Fort Worth Panthers staged a massive comeback, routing the Chicago Demolition 11-7 despite falling into an early 7-0 hole. Chicago’s offense exploded in the first two innings, highlighted by Hideki Matsui‘s three-run home run in the 2nd off Panthers starter C.C. Sabathia.

However, Fort Worth stormed back immediately in the 3rd, scoring four runs, keyed by a two-run double from Jose Reyes. The pivotal moment came in the 4th inning when Demolition pitching collapsed. Following an RBI single by Reyes that chased Chicago starter P. Martinez, reliever Jim Brower walked the bases loaded, setting up Ivan Rodriguez‘s dramatic go-ahead grand slam, putting Fort Worth up 9-7.

The Panthers extended their lead with a solo shot from Carl Crawford in the 8th and an RBI single in the 9th. Sabathia secured the win after five innings, and Joe Borowski closed it out for the save.

Final Score: Fort Worth 11 – Chicago 7

Win: C.C. Sabathia 4-0 (2.70)
Loss: Jim Brower 0-2 (3.42)
Save: Joe Borowski #8

Game #6: In one of the longest games in recent memory, a thrilling 22-inning marathon between Chicago (Demolition) and Fort Worth (Panthers).

The game started with an early exchange of runs. Fort Worth took a 1-0 lead in the 1st on a Gary Sheffield single, only for Chicago’s Hideki Matsui to immediately answer with a two-run homer in the bottom half. Fort Worth pulled ahead in the 6th inning, taking a 4-3 lead on a two-run home run by Adam Melhuse. Sheffield added a solo shot in the 8th to make it 5-3, seemingly setting the stage for a Panthers victory.

However, the game entered a legendary phase in the bottom of the 9th when Chicago’s Tony Batista blasted a dramatic two-out, two-run home run off Fort Worth closer Joe Borowski to tie the game at 5-5.

What followed was an extraordinary 13 innings of scoreless baseball for Fort Worth and a nine-inning battle for the Chicago bullpen, until the Panthers broke the deadlock in the top of the 19th on an RBI single by Rich Aurilia, making it 6-5. Yet again, Chicago responded, with Tim Salmon hitting a leadoff home run in the bottom of the 19th to tie the game at 6-6, pushing it into the 20th inning and beyond.

In the bottom of the 22nd inning, with the score still tied, Chicago’s Hideki Matsui came up with two outs and runners on first and second. Matsui delivered a hard single to the right side, driving in B. Higginson for the dramatic, walk-off winning run.

This lengthy game required extended performances from several relievers:
Billy Wagner (Chicago) faced 21 batters over his 5.1 innings of relief.
Kazuhiro Sasaki (Chicago) faced 24 batters over his 6.1 innings of relief.
Brian Shouse (Fort Worth) faced 34 batters over his incredible 12.1 innings of relief.

Final Score: Chicago 7 – Fort Worth 6 (22 Innings)

Win: Arthur Rhodes 1-0 (1.42)
Loss: Brian Shouse 1-1 (0.93)

Series Summary: The highly anticipated six-game series between the pitching-dominant Chicago Demolition and the offensively-powerful Fort Worth Panthers ended in a 3-3 split, showcasing an electrifying clash of styles. Despite Fort Worth’s superior regular-season record (12-4), the Demolition’s legendary rotation and clutch hitting ensured a nail-biting, competitive matchup.

The series was defined by extremes, featuring two low-scoring pitching duels (1-0 and 2-0) and two major comeback wins (8-7 and 11-7). Fort Worth demonstrated their potent offense with a stunning 11-7 victory, highlighted by Ivan Rodriguez‘s go-ahead grand slam off Chicago ace Pedro Martínez, completely erasing an early 7-0 deficit. However, the Demolition responded with relentless fight, culminating in one of the season’s most memorable games: a 22-inning, 7-6 marathon victory sealed by a walk-off RBI single from Hideki Matsui. Chicago’s clutch hitter, Tony Batista, also delivered series highlights, tying two separate games with dramatic late-inning home runs. The series’ even split suggests the theoretical advantage of Fort Worth’s lineup was perfectly balanced by Chicago’s top-tier pitching and surprising offensive grit.

Dondero Oaks @ Corktown Bootleggers

Series Summary: Corktown wins the series 4-2.

Michigan Marauders @ Long Beach Titans

Game #1: Ryan Franklin threw a NO-HITTER! He gave up just 1 walk and struckout 7. The Long Beach offense gave him all he needed with 4 runs in the 1st in the 8-0 win.
Game #2: Sheets shut down the Long Beach offense for 7 1/3 innings in the Michigan 2-1 win. Palmeiro homered in the 2nd to get the Marauders on the board and Perez added a SF in the 7th. The Titans got the tying run to the plate in the 9th but Plesac retired Buchanan to end the game.
Game #3: Long Beach scored 4 runs early and went on to a 5-2 win. May gave up 2 hits in 7 innings to get the win and Vidro had 3 RBI to lead the offense.
Game #4: Michigan took an early lead on back to back HRs by Boone and Palmeiro in the 2nd. It stayed that way until the 7th when Mondesi hit a 2 run shot to tie the game. The bullpens took over and it was still 2-2 in the 14th when PH Myers singled in the winning run as Long Beach won 3-2.
Game #5: This game was never in doubt. Long Beach took a 6-0 lead in the 3rd and added 10 in the 8th and ran away with a 17-2 win. The Titans had 22 hits including 5 HRs as the offense exploded.
Game #6: This was a great back and forth game. Michigan took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd. Long Beach tied it in the 5th on a Buchanan 3 run HR. They took a 5-3 lead in the 7th on a Buchanan 2B and a Payton SF. In the 8th Palmeiro hit a 2 run shot to tie the game 5-5. Both teams scored in the 13th and Palmeiro knocked in the winning run in the 14th as Michigan won 7-6.
Series Summary: In a very competitive series, Long Beach won 4 of 6.

Blarney Drive Bandits @ Hampton Huskies

Series Preview: Two teams at or near the bottom of their divisions in the early going meet up for six games at Hampton.
Game #1: The Blarney Drive Bandits came in with their bats a-swinging and were up 6-0 off Sterling Hitchock (who was anything but sterling) only to have the Huskies come back and win 7-6 thanks to a 2-run double by Marcus Giles in the 7th. Keith Ginter (1) homered for the Bandits and drove in four runs in a 2/4 game with Magglio Ordonez chipping in with two singles, a double and an RBI. Scott Hatteberg was 3/3 with a run and Matt Mantei capped a virtuous performance by the Hampton bullpen that allowed one hit in the last six innings.
Game #2: Once again, the runs came easily for the Bandits in the early going. They jumped all over Jorge DePaula for four runs in the first three innings only this time the comeback gods did not shine on the Huskies and Blarney Drive prevailed 5-3. Shawn Green and Brian Giles each had two hits with Giles scoring two runs. Oliver Perez (1-1) struck out 11 and walked just two while allowing just one earned run. David Weather picked up his 2nd save with two outs in the 9th.
Game #3: Derrek Lee homered and added a couple of singles and drove in four runs to help Hampton to an easy 11-1 win over Blarney Drive. Ty Wigginton was 3/4 with two runs and three RBIs as well while Shawn Green had three hits and scored the lone run for the Bandits.
Game #4: Marcus Giles was 5/5 with three RBIs in another unclose game with Hampton winning 7-1 over Blarney Drive.
Game #5: Marcus Giles, Reed Johnson and Derrek Lee were a combined 9/12 with six runs scored and eight RBIs as Hampton downed Blarney Drive 11-4. Giles and Aramis Ramirez homered for the Huskies while Brady Clark led off the game with his 1st home run of the season for the Bandits.
Game #6: Aramis Ramirez smashed a two-run shot off David Weathers with two out in the bottom of the 9th to send the game into extra innings and then Scott Podsednik brought in the game winner in the 10th on an infield single for a 4-3 Hampton win. Khalil Greene singled and drove in two runs for Blarney Drive. Xavier Nady snagged a potential home run by Shawn Green but crashed into the left field wall and was knocked out of action for 3 weeks.
Series Summary: Hampton takes 5 of 6.

Castle Rock Hounds @ DeWitt Tigers

Series Summary: Castle Rock takes 5 of 6 from Dewit.

Yucaipa Badgers @ Houghton Penguins

Series Summary: Yucaipa takes 4 of 6 from Houghton.

Hollywood Vampires @ Manhattan Gas Hornets

Series Preview: Manhattan home after 2 weeks and boy are we disappointing. Key batters are not hitting, the fielding is miserable – not a strength. Morris throws batting practice instead of heat, and we get to host Hollywood, what could be better?
Game #1: Kip Wells and Tim Wakefield square off and there are 7 hits total and 3 runs. Wakefield goes 8, 1 hits, 1 run (Edgardo Alfonzo spoils the no-no with a solo HR – 2 in the 8th!!). Manhattan got single runs in the 1st and 2nd (Graffinino homers (1) in the 2nd). Tom Gordon makes it stick in the 9th as Manhattan wins game 1, 2-1!
HLW 1-2-0 LP Wells (1-1)
MGH 2-5-1 WP Wakefield (3-1) S Gordon (3)
Game #2: Roy Oswalt comes out for Hollywood and 4 hits the Gas Hornets (6 innings) and gives up just 1 ER (2 Runs) which included a Vanderwal homer (3). But the real story was the 15 hits the Vampires smacked. Carl Everett goes 4 for 6 with 1 single, a triple and 2 homers (3) and 6 RBIS! Cliff Floyd drives in 3 on 2 hits and Hollywood cranks out a big 15-5 win. That easily overcame 4 errors. Whoppeee
HLW 15-15-4 WP Oswalt (2-1)
MGH 5-10-0 LP Halama (1-2)
Game #3: Seems like Hollywood used up a lot of offense in game 2 and in this one they managed 6 hits – all singles but only 1 run and that came as result of a Manhattan error! Roy Halladay was strong except for the 2nd inning when Vanderwal unloads a 3 run homer (4) and then Garrett Anderson hits a solo shot (3) in the 3rd. That was the Gas Hornets offense but it was enough. Byung-Hyun Kim got the start and the win (he might get a few more starts this year!!)
HLW 1-6-0 LP Halladay (3-2)
MGH 4-5-2 WP Kim (1-0)
Game #4: Once again the Gas Hornets only had a few hits (this time it was 4) and again they had fewer than Hollywood, but they made them count. One of them was a 2 run Ruben Sierra triple, the other a Jeter rbi single. And once again the Vampires couldn’t put their hits together – their only run a solo Carl Everett homer (4) in the 6th. AND here’s the big news – Matt Morris actually pitched well (it was fingers crossed on every P). 7.2 ip, 6 hits, 1 run, no walks, 6 ks! Phelps goes down for 5 days on HBP. Odalis Perez walks off with an 11 day injury for Hollywood.
HLW 1-7-1 LP Perez (3-1)
MGH 3-4-0 WP Morris (1-3) S Gordon (4)
Game #5: Kip Wells squares off with Brian Anderson for this one and wells goes 7, 7 hits and 4 runs. Meanwhile Brian Anderson gives up 2 runs (unearned) in the 2nd, and that was it – he was very strong – would have been a shutout if not for that error. 5 hits, 7 ks! Tom Gordon gets the final 2 outs for the save.
HLW 2-5-0 LP Wells (1-4)
MGH 4-7-1 WP B.Anderson (2-1) S Gordon (5)
Game #6: Roy Oswalt vs. Casey Fossum – Hollywood needs Oswalt starting all the time. He wakes up the bats – 13 hits in this one and Carl Everett homers (5) again. 3 hits, 4 runs (only 1 rbi, but)…Millar and Furcal get 2 hits, Ortiz gets 3. So 13 hits, 8 runs – but the Gas Hornets actually took a 3-2 lead after 1 on a Tino Martinez homer (2). We added a couple more in the 6th to give the fans a feeling we had a chance, but that was our best offense of the week – the Oswalt games worked for us as well, but never enough to overcome the Vampires. Hollywood wins it 8-5!
HLW 8-13-0 WP Oswalt (3-1) S Foulke (3)
MGH 5-10-2 LP Fossum (1-2)
Series Summary: Well we were stymied on offense and still managed to win 4 of 6. Hollywood hit a lot (but only in a couple of games) but their scoring was limited. Strange series but we’ll take it.
