Southlake Stealers @ Monroeville Maulers

Series Preview: MVM welcomes the Stealers to Hammerin’ Time Stadium at Mauler Park. An early battle for first place in the AL Central.

Play Ball!!!

Game #1: SSS 3-9-1 vs MVM 2-5-0

W: Prior 2-0
S: Smoltz (3)
L: Willis 1-1

All quiet on the hitting parade as both starters duke it out. The Stealers prevail out outscoring the Maulers by 1.

Game #2: MVM 14-16-0 vs SSS 0-4-2

W: Torres 2-0
L: Alvarez 1-1

HR: MVM
Mientkiewicz (1) RBI 3(4)
Glaus (2) RBI (4)

The Hammerin’ Time bats could not be silenced; it seemed every time they hit the ball, a run was scored, lol. Salomon Torres gains inspiration from the offensive explosion, hurling 7 shutout innings for his 2nd win of the season.

Game #3: SSS 4-13-0 vs MVM 1-3-0

W: DuBose 1-0
L: Snyder 0-1

What a difference a day makes, Mauler bats nowhere to be found as Eric DuBose baffles Mauler hitters for his 1st win of the season with a fabulous 3-hitter. Stealer bats provide the appropriate offense to secure the win.

Game #4: MVM 4-7-0 vs SSS 3-5-3

Jason Schmidt scatters 3 hits over 8IP and hands it over to the MVM bullpen, which promptly blows the lead, and its extra innings. Maulers gain the winning run in the 12th on a Dan Wilson bunt single, scoring Felipe Lopez from third leading off the inning with a clutch double, for the victory.

W: King 1-1
BS: Turnbow (1)
L: Mahay 1-1

HR: MVM
Glaus (3) RBI 2(6)

Game #5: SSS 5-5-0 vs MVM 4-6-0

First game of a twilight doubleheader. SSS and MVM locked at 4-4 through 8 innings, and the Stealers prevail in the 9th as Encarnacion walks and promptly steals 2nd, makes 3rd on a SAC, and then scores on an Ichiro Suzuki SAC fly. That’s the way you MFG runs, boys and girls.

W: Hasegawa 1-0
S: Smoltz (4)
L: King 1-2

HR: SSS
Garciaparra (2) RBI 2(8)
Encarnacion (1) RBI (5)

Game #6: SSS 14-18-1
MVM 8-12-1
A slug fest as both teams battle back and forth for an 8-8 tie, but the Stealers prevail big, blasting 6 runs in the top of the 10th off of a pathetic MVM bullpen, blowing another game in the series. SSS is coming out on top to take the series 4-2 and take hold of the AL Central lead.W: Lopez 1-0
L: Ramirez 0-1
BS: King (1)HR: SSS
White 2(3) RBI 3(11)
Blalock 2(3) RBI 3(5)
Garciaparra (3) RBI (9)HR: MVM
Mientkiewicz (2) RBI 2(7)
Hernandez (1) RBI 3(3)
Series Summary: SSS 29-54-7 / MVM 33-49-1

SSS out-hits MVM, but the Maulers outscore the Stealers, regardless SSS takes the series 4-2. Lots of offense with good pitching mixed in, mostly from the starters. Southlake out of the gate fast and furious over the other AL Central teams, can they keep it up? IDK, that’s a question for Sarge, lol.

Yucaipa Badgers @ Chicago Demolition

Series Preview: Chicago Demolition (2-3)
Led by the powerful trio of Carlos Delgado, Pedro Martinez, and Roger Clemens, the Demolition bring a mix of explosive offense and elite pitching. Delgado anchors the lineup with his home run power, while Martinez and Clemens give Chicago a formidable one-two punch on the mound. Their 2-3 record shows some inconsistency, but their star power means they’re always a threat.
Yucaipa Badgers (2-3)
The Badgers counter with their own stars: ace Kerry Wood, slugger Todd Helton, and all-around threat Larry Walker. Wood’s strikeout ability can shut down any lineup, while Helton and Walker provide a balanced attack at the plate. Like Chicago, Yucaipa sits at 2-3, looking to gain momentum and move above .500.Series Odds & Edge
Both teams are evenly matched on paper, each with a 2-3 record and a blend of pitching and hitting talent. However, if the Badgers are at home, they may have a slight edge thanks to familiar surroundings and crowd support. I’d give Yucaipa a 55% chance to take the series, with Chicago at 45%—but with stars on both sides, it could go either way.Expect a close, hard-fought series with plenty of star power on display!
Game #1: The Chicago Demolition jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Yucaipa Badgers 9-3. After both teams traded runs in the first, Chicago broke the game open with a three-run homer by Bobby Higginson, making it 4-1. The Demolition kept the pressure on, adding another run in the second and a three-run blast from Charles Johnson in the third to stretch the lead to 8-1. Hideki Matsui added a solo shot in the fifth, capping Chicago’s offensive outburst. Pedro Martinez was sharp on the mound, allowing just one run over seven innings while striking out six. Yucaipa managed to score twice in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough to threaten Chicago’s commanding lead. Jesse Foppert struggled for the Badgers, lasting less than two innings and taking the loss. Chicago’s balanced attack and strong pitching sealed a convincing win.

Final Score: Chicago 9 – Yucaipa 3

Win: Pedro Martinez 1-1 (1.35)
Loss: Jesse Foppert 0-2 (15.26)

Game #2: The Chicago Demolition topped the Yucaipa Badgers 5-2 in a game marked by early offense and key pitching changes. Yucaipa struck first with a run in the opening frame, but Chicago answered with a three-run rally in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on a costly error and a sacrifice fly. Both teams lost key players early—Chicago’s starter Kevin Millwood exited with an injury in the second, replaced by Kevin Gregg, while Yucaipa’s Carlos Delgado left after being hit by a pitch. The Badgers chipped away, narrowing the gap to 3-2 in the third, but Chicago’s bullpen held strong. In the seventh, Mike Kinkade’s clutch hit and Bobby Higginson’s double extended the Demolition’s lead. Billy Wagner closed the door in the ninth, stranding the bases loaded to secure the win. Gregg earned his first victory, while Runelvys Hernandez took the loss.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Yucaipa 2

Win: Kevin Gregg 1-0 (2.08)
Loss: Runelvys Hernandez 0-2 (3.29)
Save: Billy Wagner #1

Game #3: The Yucaipa Badgers defeated the Chicago Demolition 9-3 in a game that saw momentum shift dramatically in the sixth inning. Todd Helton got Yucaipa on the board early with a solo home run in the first, but Chicago tied it up in the fourth thanks to a bases-loaded walk. The turning point came in the top of the sixth, when Todd Walker launched a grand slam, breaking the tie and giving the Badgers a commanding lead. Yucaipa continued to pile on runs, capitalizing on Chicago’s defensive miscues and adding insurance in the late innings. Chicago managed to score twice more, including an RBI triple by Alfredo Amezaga and a late RBI single by Shannon Stewart, but it wasn’t enough. Carlos Zambrano pitched seven strong innings for the win, while Masao Kida took the loss after surrendering six runs. The game also saw two key Chicago players leave with injuries after a collision in the sixth.

Final Score: Yucaipa 9 = Chicago 3

Win: Carlos Zambrano 1-1 (3.46)
Loss: Masao Kida 0-1 (6.75)

Game #4: The Yucaipa Badgers edged out the Chicago Demolition 4-2 in a tightly contested matchup. Both teams were locked in a scoreless duel through three innings, with strong pitching performances from Kerry Wood and Roger Clemens. Yucaipa broke through in the fourth, as Todd Helton doubled and scored on Bill Mueller’s single. The Badgers added another run in the sixth, but Chicago rallied in the seventh, tying the game 2-2 on a homer by Charles Johnson and a clutch double from Greg Norton.

The game turned in the ninth when Lenny Walker launched a two-run homer off Brendan Donnelly, giving Yucaipa the decisive lead. Eric Gagne came in to close, retiring the side in order to secure the win. Kerry Wood struck out nine over eight innings for the victory, while Donnelly took the loss in relief. Gagne notched his second save of the season.

Final Score: Yucaipa 4 – Chicago 2

Win: Kerry Wood 1-0 (3.60)
Loss: Brendan Donnelly 0-1 (3.00)
Save: Eric Gagne #2

Game #5: The Yucaipa Badgers jumped out to an early lead in Game 1 of the doubleheader on April 16, 2003, thanks to a three-run homer by Bill Mueller in the first inning. Chicago’s Demolition answered with single runs in the first and second, but Yucaipa’s offense proved relentless. Larry Walker’s two-run blast in the fifth extended the lead, and Todd Walker’s three-run homer in the sixth put the game out of reach. Mike Mussina was sharp on the mound for Yucaipa, allowing just two runs over six innings while striking out six. Chicago managed a late run in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. Jae Seo struggled for the Demolition, surrendering three home runs and eight runs in total. Yucaipa’s balanced attack and strong pitching secured a convincing win to open the doubleheader.

Final Score: Yucaipa 9 – Chicago 3

Win: Mike Mussina 2-0 (6.00)
Loss: Jae Seo 1-1 (6.91)

Game #6: Pedro Martinez was dominant early, striking out the side in the first and finishing with eight strikeouts over seven strong innings. Yucaipa took an early lead, but Chicago responded with a solo homer from Roberto Alomar and a two-run blast by Carlos Delgado to seize momentum. Michael Kinkade’s two-run homer in the sixth extended Chicago’s lead. Yucaipa mounted a late rally, scoring three runs in the eighth to close the gap, but Billy Wagner came in to shut the door in the ninth, earning his second save. Martinez improved to 2-1 with a 1.33 ERA, while Jesse Foppert took the loss for Yucaipa. The game featured timely hitting, strong pitching, and late-inning drama, setting the tone for the doubleheader & the series.

Final Score: Chicago 6 – Yucaipa 4

Win: Pedro Martinez 2-1 (1.33)
Loss: Jesse Foppert
Save: Billy Wagner #2

Series Summary: The Chicago Demolition and Yucaipa Badgers battled through a hard-fought six-game series, ultimately splitting the set 3-3. Both teams showcased their star power and resilience, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout. Chicago’s offense exploded early in the series, highlighted by big home runs from Bobby Higginson, Charles Johnson, and Carlos Delgado, while Pedro Martinez anchored the pitching staff with two strong wins. Yucaipa answered with timely power of their own—Todd Walker’s grand slam and Bill Mueller’s three-run shot were pivotal, and ace Kerry Wood delivered a dominant, nine-strikeout performance. Injuries and bullpen heroics added drama, with Billy Wagner and Eric Gagne each notching key saves. Ultimately, neither side could pull away, as both lineups and rotations delivered clutch moments. The series was defined by explosive innings, late-game drama, and the kind of star performances that make for classic baseball.
