FINAL MGH 6 VAL 1 WP Reed (4-3)
Game #4: Crazy finish to this one. Gas Hornets 3 runs in 2nd, Bombers 3 runs in the 3rd. Gas Hornets match that with 3 in their half of the 3rd. 6-3 Manhattan and then Valdosta chips away with single runs in the 4th, 6th and 7th and it’s tied 6-6 after 9. Highlights to this point: VAL – Manny Ramirez 2 run double in 3rd. MGH – Ron Coomer 3 run homer (3) in 3rd. VAL – Mark Grudzielanek rbi double in 4th, homer (8) in 6th. Bobby Abreu homer (14) in 7th to tie game.
Now the fun part! VAL – Ramirez leads off and reaches when Jason Kendall drops a pop fly (fair). Then Richie Sexson (13) unloads for a 2 run shot and an 8-6 lead! Bottom half, Danny Patterson in to pitch. Josh Paul leads off – homerun (2). Why haven’t I been using him before this week! 1 out and Ron Coomer hits his 2nd homer of the game (3) – 2nd homer of the inning – TIE GAME!
11th ining – Tom Gordon gets the Bombers 1-2-3. Bottom half, Derek Jeter leads off, pops up, Inge and Williams are going for it near the line, Inge calls, they collide, Inge drops it, but right to Williams, but wait – he drops it. Kendall then grounds Jeter to 2nd. Durham up – WP, Jeter to 3rd. Durham flies out to Finley in CF – Jeter tags and scores the winning run!
FINAL MGH 9 VAL 8 11 innings WP Gordon (2-1) LP Patterson (0-6) BS (4)
Game #5: Both teams score twice in the 8th – however Valdosta also scored a run in the 4th and we’re not going to win them all! Drat. Jamie Moyer goes the distance tossing an 8 hitter, with 1 W and 4 Ks and pretty much in control the whole way except for the 8th, but he recovered. Eric Chavez (11) homers in the 4th. Bobby Abreu with 2 hits and a run.
FINAL VAL 3 MGH 2 WP Moyer (7-2) LP Duckworth (1-1)
Game #6: Game starts off with a bang as Eric Chavez drills a 2 run shot (2nd batter up) in the 1st for a quick 2-0 Valdosta lead. His 12th. LaRue drives in a 3rd run for the Bombers in the 4th. Manhattan matches it in the bottom half and then ties it with 2 in the 5th. Then the teams stop scoring as the pitchers take charge. On to the 11th – Kim has had the Bombers in check for 1.2 innings and Mike Timlin is into his 3rd inning having blanked Manhattan in the 9th and 10th. Tino Martinez leads off the bottom of the 11th with a double! Luis Rivas in to PR and Tony Graffanino in to PH for Alicea (who had 2 hits, double, rbi already in the game). The pitch, Graf pokes it to left center for a hit and it gets by Ramirez and Finley and Graffanino is credited with a walk-off double!
FINAL MGH 4 VAL 3 11 innings WP Kim (6-2) LP Timlin (0-3)
Series Summary:  extra innings games, 2 blow outs and a 1 run VALDOSTA win highlight the 5-1 series win for Manhattan – that easily could have been 4-2 for the Bombers.

Hollywood Vampires @ Flora-Bama Mullets

Series Preview: The scrappy NL West second place Hollywood Vampires face the NL East first place Flora-Bama Mullets for six games.
Game #1: Millar’s two run homer in the 1st gave the Vampires an early lead. The Mullets got one back in bottom of the 1st and tied it in the 2nd. Then went up 4-2 on a Berkman rbi double and Gonzalez single. Piazza singled in another run in 5th. Flora-Bama’s recently revamped bullpen pitched four scoreless innings to get Schilling his first win as a Mullet.
Flora-Bama 5-2
W – Schilling (3-5), L – Mulder (4-4), S – Mesa (#4)
Game #2: Pitchers duel between Person and Halladay. Piazza’s rbi single in the 6th was the first run of the game. Mayne’s two rbi single in 7th allowed an unearned run to score. A pinch hit double by Sierra in the 8th drove in the winning run. Mesa picked up his second save as a Mullet.
Fora-Bama 2-1
W – Sasaki (3-1), L – Halladay (1-1), S – Messa (#5)
Game #3: Menechino rbi single in 3rd and Cirillo two run homer in the 4th gave the Hollywood an early 3-0 lead. Hunter’s solo homer in 5th and his two rbi double in the 8th tied it 3-3. Cirillo solo homerun in the 11th wasn’t enough as Sierra smacked a pinch hit two run rbi double in the bottom of the 11th.
Flora-Bama 5-4 11th
W – Burnett (7-3), L – Isringhausen (2-2)
Game #4: All Hollywood in this one. Simon’s two run double in 1st and Kapler’s two run homer forced Schilling to leave early. Konerko added two homers against Burnett as Hollywood cruised to the win.

Carlo Hernandez pitched 10 innings and finally turned it over to the pen in the 11th. Mullets loaded the bases in the 11th, but Foulke got Juan Gonzalez to line out. Floyd and Millar back to back solo homers off Sasaki in the 13th finally won it for the Vampires. Mullets waisted an incredible performance from Hernandez.
Hollywood 4-2 13th
W – Foulke (2-1), L – Sasaki (3-2), S – Isringhausen (#2)
Game #6: Piazza rbi single in the 1st was matched by a Cirilo rbi single in the 3rd. Mayne’s rbi single in 4th and White’s two run homer in the 6th gave the Vampires a 4-1 lead. Mullets loaded the bases in the 6th with no outs, but the #3 and #4 hitters failed to get anything. The Mullets loaded them again in the 7th and little #9 hitter Nefi Perez showed how it is done by crushing a grandslam. Mesa and Sasaki shut the door in the 8th and 9th.
Flora-Bama 5-4
Series Summary: Mullets took the series 4-2 and they could have taken five if they’d done a better job managing the 5th game. The Vampires pitched well throughout the series, but the offense wasn’t consistent.
