The score remained 3-0 to the bottom of the sixth when the home team goes off for another big inning, plating seven runs to blow the game open. Maddux tosses seven scoreless innings for the win in a FFS 10-1 victory. |
| Game #3: | David Cone doesn’t allow a hit until the 8th inning and the Flossmoor offense once again lets loose for an easy 13-0 win. |
| Game #4: | A two run 7th for the Demolition off the Squirrels pen gives them a 5-4 advantage that they are able to hold onto down the stretch for the win. Some sloppy baserunning in the 8th by Flossmoor costs them a chance at extras. |
| Game #5: | A three run ninth for Chicago forces extras. The final two of the three runs were walked in. We play on to the 12th when a Travis Fryman bloop single with two outs scores pinch runner Phil Plantier to give Flossmoor a walk off win. Jason Grimsley with three shutout innings in extras earns the win. |
| Series Summary: | Flossmoor takes the series four games to one to improve to a robust 16-4 on the season. A good start for the Squirrels who are looking like runaway winners in the AL East. |

| Series Preview: | Divisional rivals Steel City and Hampton square off for five rounds of what so far this year leads me to believe we’ll see a lot of sloppy defence (I don’t remember there being so many buffoons bobbling balls back in ’94 but oh well). |
| Game #1: | An extremely tight game as John Smiley and Jack McDowell duelled one another for seven innings. Steel city opened the scoring in the 4th when Tim Naehring singled home Mark Grace and Sean Berry scored on an infield ground out to give the Sluggers a 2-0 lead against the dopey Hampton bats. The Huskies got one back in their half of the inning when Brian McRae was able to outrun Tim Raines‘ throw from centre field thanks to a deep fly ball by Jeff Frye. Smiley gave up seven hits in all but only the one run for Steel City while walking three and striking out three Hampton Huskies hitters. McDowell was pretty much unhittable in the game save for the 4th inning allowing a total of three hits with four walks and four Ks in 7 innings. The game moved in to the 9th with Steel City still hanging on 2-1 and John Habyan on the mound looking for the save. Habyan started off on the wrong foot by walking catcher Mike Stanley but then hunkered down to get Mickey Tettleton on an infield pop up and Devon White hit into a fielder’s choice. Henry Rodriguez followed with a line drive single to right field that moved White to 3rd base (Rodriguez’s third hit of the day). That brought up McRae who took an inside pitch and walloped it over firstbaseman Mark Grace‘s head and into the right field corner sending White across the plate to tie it and Rodriguez to win it on the walkoff triple. That McRae’s hit doubled his RBI total for the year was almost as incredible as the whole nine innings was played without an error by either team. | Game #2: | Not such a close game. Hampton jumped to an early 7-0 lead after the first four innings and while Steel City made it interesting with a 4-run 5th, the Huskies cruised to an 8-4 win. Devon White and Mike Stanley each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs while Jeff Frye collected three hits, scored one and had an RBI for Hampton. Greg Vaughn‘s double in the 5th generated two RBIs for the Sluggers and Rusty Greer had two of the team’s five hits on the day. | Game #3: | Doug Drabek continued his scoreless streak tossing eight shutout innings as Hampton won 5-0 over Steel City. Drabek gave up just four hits (three of them doubles though) in the game, struck out five and walked none and has yet to allow a run to score in four starts – 31 innings. The Hampton top three of Brian McRae, Mickey Morandini and Devon White each had two hits and scored once. Steel City wins the error competition committing three to Hampton’s two. | Game #4: | Mickey Morandini and BJ Surhoff each belted their first homers of the year and the first by anyone in this series as Hampton outlasted Steel City 7-3. The unstoppable Al Martin lifted his average to .393 with three hits in five at bats scored two and drove in two with two singles and a double. | Game #5: | The Steel City Sluggers mounted a valiant comeback with two runs in the 8th off Orel Hershiser but they fell just one short as Hampton completed the sweep with a 4-3 win. Tim Naehring had two hits including a double and drove in a run and scored another for Steel City. | Game #1: | The Titans send Dennis Martinez (2-1) to the mound to face Grays Jim Bullinger (1-0). Titans Nilsson starts things off in the 2nd with a 2-out 2-run shot over the right field wall. Grays James answered in the bottom half with a lead-off homer. MacFarlane follows with a double and scores three batters later on an Alomar infield grounder. Then Gagne who reached on a walk scored on an infield grounder by Webster. Grays 3-2. Titans Hill lead off the 3rd with a single and later scored on a Fielder single. Game restart. In the bottom half James hits his second solo shot this time with 2-out. Grays 4-3. Titans Baerga doubled in the 6th and scored on a Smith 2-out single. Nilsson follows with a 2-run double to give the Titans a comfortable 2-run lead late. No, no, no. Grays Sanders ties it up again with a 2-run homer in the 7th, 6-6. Then in the 8th Grays Gagne popped one over the fence to put the Grays backup. A Titan-Grays wraslin’ match of old. Runners in scoring position every inning, but no score until the 3rd when Grays Huff and Thomas combine for a couple of doubles. Through 4 innings Appier 7K and Hamilton 8K. In the 6th Titans fill the bases with 0-out and with 1-out PH Sameul lifts a sacrifice fly to center, 1-1. Titans fill the bases again, this time with 1-out in the 7th. Grays pick off the runner on third, but then Montgomery allows a Justice single. Titans by 1. Grays fill the bases in the bottom half, but Almoar grounds into a DP to end the inning. With Grays Thomas leading off with a 2-base error in the 8th, Titans Mesa holds. And Titans Risley finishes. The Grays fill the bases in the bottom half and MacFarlane lifts an SF. Tie game 2-2. In the 6th the Grays take the lead as Caminiti, MacFarlane, and PH Pegues single.
