| In the American League Al Reyes was 8th in wins and 10th in saves. Henke was 4th in saves and had a R-OBA good for 4th best at .161. Fossas was 9th in saves. Clontz was 14th in holds, 9th in ERA, and held opponents to a .181 batting average – 8th overall. The Stars also had a player who underachieved (Harris) and one who overachieved (Ayala) during the regular season so perhaps that’s reversed for the World Series. For the NL champs Bottalico was 9th in wins, 6th in saves, and 4 in R-OBA at .165. Scott Service was 7th in wins. Lee Smith was 5th in holds and 15th best in ERA. They might have done better individually had they pitched more innings, but overall the Bandits had the lowest bullpen ERA in all of MWWL at 2.72.

Blarney Drive led the NL in 10 categories and was 2nd in one while Detroit led the AL in 3 categories and was 2nd in 4 others. Although the Bandits had a greater advantage over their league brethren, but teams were pretty similar statistically. Blarney Drive had more doubles and the Stars had more triples and home runs. The stolen base category really doesn’t matter as both teams catching corps are pretty poor in throwing out runners. The Bandits had more saves and a R-ERA almost a full run lower, but their R-OBA was about the same as Detroit’s. The series could go 6 or 7 games and could go either way. If Detroit can get those triples and homers at the same rate as in the regular season they’ll win. If Blarney Drive bullpen can shut the door beginning in the 7th inning, then they will win. Either way it should be an exciting Series! |
