Grays start journeyman Mike Morgan, who is finally having some success, against another rookie Derek Lilliquist. Gagne’s 3-run double in the first gives Morgan all he needs as he goes the distance in a 5-1 win.

This game features Rick Aguilera for the Grays versus another scrap-heap pitcher in Jerry Reuss for the Skeeters. The game is scoreless until the fourth, when the Grays put up a 3-spot on a 2-run double by Ken Caminiti and a single by Aguilera. They add two the next inning on McGwire’s 17th HR. 5-0 is the final.

The Other Maddux, Mike, starts for the Grays against Pete Smith. Smith is injured after two outs and is replaced by Bautista, who pitches well until giving up a Grand Slam to struggling Dale Murphy. Maddux then does his best Greg impression with a 4-hit shutout, walking one and striking out 8. The Grays score 5 runs for the third straight game for the 5-0 win.

An error in the 9th allows a base runner for the Mauraders and they take advantage scoring on a Brunansky SF. Bottom of the 10th the Gas Hornets get a runner on when Bass draws a PH walk. He steals second. Jacoby walks, Dawson in to PR. Moses sacrifices them to 2nd and 3rd. Joyner is then given the IW to load them up for PH Scott Bradley who smashes a convincing, and game winning, single to end the game. MGH 2 MIC 1WP Smith (1-4). LP Williamson (6-4). Ballards goes 7.1 innings no runs, 4 hits. Higuera 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 run. In fact, after the 1st, the Gas Hornets did nothing until the 10th. |

Dawson comes up with the tying run on 2nd – and he pops out to short to end the game giving Michigan their 1st win of the series. All their runs came on homers off Mike Scott (who hasn’t acclimated to NY yet – fans in the OF are starting to give him a time). Higuera goes 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run for the win (his 1st of the year).

1st game of the series that Michigan doesn’t get at least one runner on in the 1st. But Reuschel gets through the inning. Gas Hornets then score 2 (1 unearned on Nokes error, dropping the throw at home). Later Samuel triples leading off the 3rd, but Reuschel strands him there. Yount homers (8) in the 4th to make it 3-0. Game stays that way until the 8th when Brunansky hits a solo shot (9) with one out to cut it to 3-1. Henke then comes in and gets the last 5 outs (and batters) to preserve the win.

The middle of the Bears order led the way with 6 RBIs, Dwight Evans HRd (15th) and drove in 3, Puckett went 4 for 5, Milligan added two RBIs. The Juggernauts kept pace with the Bears, Steve Buechele (4) hit a 3-run HR, Rob Deer doubled and drove in 2 runs, but 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th off RP Cecil Guante broke a 6-6 tie. Knepper lasted only 2 innings for JJ, Guante took over & took the loss due to an error by Mitch Williams who came in to bail him out. Boddicker lasted into the 7th but was not around for the decision.

Nothing more frustrating IF Maddux pitched like he is supposed to (thanks unrealistic APBA gods!), it would have been a 3-2 series T.C. win, but nope… the APBA gods had other things in mind, with a 3-2 California series win.Hopefully Mad Dog can salvage his season (hopefully, not holding my breath).
