Castle Rock Hounds @ Chicago Demolition |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | The upcoming series between the Chicago Demolition (71-40), who are currently 1st Place in the American League Central, and the Castle Rock Hounds (59-52), who hold 2nd Place in the American League East, promises to be an exciting matchup. Given their superior record and current standing, the Chicago Demolition are favored to win the series with odds of 3:1. |
Game #1: | Castle Rock Hounds secured a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Demolition in a tightly contested game. The Hounds took an early lead in the first inning with a two-run homer by Luis Gonzalez. Chicago responded in the bottom of the first with a run driven in by Carlos Delgado, who was later ejected in the eighth inning for arguing a strike call. The Hounds added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Barry Bonds scored on a wild throw. John Burkett pitched a stellar game for the Hounds, striking out nine and allowing only one run over six and two-thirds innings. Brian Moehler took the loss for the Demolition, giving up two runs over five and a third innings. Mike DeJean closed out the game for the Hounds, securing the save.
Final Score: Castle Rock 3 – Chicago 1 Win: John Burkett 15-5 (3.42) |
Game #2: | Castle Rock Hounds triumphed over the Chicago Demolition with a final score of 8-3. The game began with Castle Rock taking an early lead in the first inning, but Chicago quickly responded with a two-run homer by Charles Johnson in the second inning, putting them ahead 2-1. Snow’s solo home run in the ninth inning extended the lead, followed by a three-run homer by Luis Gonzalez, sealing the victory for Castle Rock. Jesus Sanchez pitched seven solid innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, earning the win. Arthur Rhodes took the loss for Chicago, giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
Final Score: Castle Rock 8 – Chicago 3 Win: Jesus Sanchez 1-0 (2.57) |
Game #3: | The Demolition dominated the Hounds with a final score of 9-1. Pedro Martinez was stellar on the mound, improving his record to 12-3 with a 2.60 ERA, while Chris Carpenter took the loss, falling to 2-6 with a 5.27 ERA. The Hounds took an early lead in the first inning when Barry Bonds scored on a double by Luis Gonzalez. However, the Demolition quickly responded and took control of the game. Roberto Alomar’s double in the first inning set the tone for the Demolition, who scored two runs in the third inning to take the lead. They continued to add to their lead with runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings. Phil Nevin’s three-run homer in the eighth inning was a highlight, sealing the victory for the Demolition. The Hounds struggled to generate offense, managing only one run in the first inning. The Demolition’s pitching staff, led by Martinez and supported by Nelson Cruz, Jeff Zimmerman, and Esteban Yan, kept the Hounds’ bats in check throughout the game.
Final Score: Castle Rock 9 – Chicago 1 Win: Pedro Martinez 13-3 (2.60) |
Game #4: | The Chicago Demolition triumphed over the Castle Rock Hounds with a final score of 6-2. The game started with both teams scoreless through the first inning. The Hounds took an early lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by Michael Barrett, bringing in Mike Sweeney. However, the Demolition quickly responded in the fourth inning, tying the game and then taking the lead with a series of hits and a crucial error by the Hounds’ defense. The Demolition extended their lead with a home run by Willie Magee in the sixth inning and another by Jose Canseco in the eighth inning. Darryl Kile pitched a strong game for the Demolition, going six and a third innings, allowing only two runs on four hits. Andy Pettitte took the loss for the Hounds, giving up five runs (four earned) over six and a third innings. The Demolition’s bullpen held firm, with Esteban Yan and Robb Nen closing out the game without allowing any further runs.
Final Score: Chicago 6 – Castle Rock 2 Win: Darryl Kile 14-4 (3.07) |
Game #5: | The Castle Rock Hounds emerged victorious over the Chicago Demolition with a final score of 5-2. The game started off slow, with both teams failing to score in the first four innings. However, the Hounds took the lead in the fifth inning when Barry Bonds hit a grand slam, making the score 4-1. The Demolition managed to score a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Hounds’ lead. Doug Davis pitched an impressive game for the Hounds, earning his 10th win of the season, while Roger Clemens took the loss for the Demolition. Joel Pineiro secured the save, his ninth of the season.
Final Score: Castle Rock 5 – Chicago 2 Win: Doug Davis 10-5 (5.64) |
Game #6: | The Chicago Demolition dominated the Castle Rock Hounds with a final score of 6-0. The game started off slow, with both teams failing to score in the first inning. The Demolition continued to extend their lead in the fifth inning, scoring four more runs, including a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly by Delgado. Brian Moehler pitched a stellar game for Chicago, allowing no runs and securing the win with a complete game shutout. John Burkett took the loss for Castle Rock, giving up six runs over four and two-thirds innings. The Hounds struggled offensively, failing to score against Moehler’s dominant pitching.

The Demolition, however, also showcased their strength, winning three games with dominant performances from Pedro Martinez and Brian Moehler, who pitched a complete game shutout. Iowa Giants @ California Quakes |
|
---|---|
Series Summary: | Iowa takes 5 of 6 from California. |
Valdosta Bombers @ Hampton Huskies |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Hampton treading water as a school of sharks from Valdosta comes cruising in. |
Game #1: | It was the Night of the Living Dead Callups in Hampton as both Chris Truby and Curtis Pride homered in support of Freddy Garcia’s complete game 10-1 win over the Bombers. Russ Johnson (5) spoiled the shutout with a solo homer for Valdosta in the top of the 9th. |
Game #2: | Curtis Pride went 4 for 4 as he and Hall of Fame candidate Chris Truby homered again for the second straight day in a 7-3 Hampton win over Valdosta. Dave Hansen also homered for Hampton as the parade of obscure players continued with Mark Grudzielanek smacking his 16th for the Bombers. |
Game #3: | Shea Hillenbrand homered and drove in four runs but it was the ridiculous Chris Truby show with his lone at bat in the game coming in the bottom of the 9th as the leadoff hitter as a leadoff/walkoff homer against Josias Manzanillo in a 7-6 Hampton win. That’s three in a row … this can’t last, we thinks to ourselves. |
Game #4: | Indeed … hard to win any games when you commit five errors and this game was no exception as the Huskies notched 17 hits but fell 12-11 to Valdosta. Shinjo homered twice for Hampton with Ochoa getting his 1st of the season and Sexson his 30th for the Bombers. Chris Truby fans will be happy to know that although he finally ended his home run streak he did go 3/5 with a double. |
Game #5: | The big guns showed up for Valdosta with Ramirez, Sexson and Chavez all taking Hampton pitchers for a ride in a 10-1 laugher in favor of the Bombers. Yoshii tossed seven shutout innings to improve to 10-7 on the year while Darren Dreifort was pummelled and dropped to 2-15. Awesome. |
Game #6: | Steve Cox homered with one out in the bottom of the 11th to bring the Huskies to within one run, but the top of the innings heroics by Eric Chavez and Bobby Abreu proved too much as the Bombers took this squeaker 7-6. This was probably the best game in the series as Hampton led 1-0 after 1 only to have Valdosta score 2 in the 4th to make it 2-1 Bombers. Hampton scored two more in their half to make it 3-2, but the Bombers tied it up the next inning. Hampton scored one in the 6th to take the lead which was short-lived with Valdosta counting one in the 7th to tie it up again. Valdosta took the lead in the 9th on an RBI single by Manny Ramirez, but an Abreu throwing error allowed Hampton to tie it up and send it into extra innings. |
Series Summary: | An unlikely split with some unlikely heroes coming out of the woodwork for Hampton in Curtis Pride and Chris Truby. The usual suspects for Valdosta turned things around after being stalled in the first half of the series to become a force to be reckoned with for the back three. |
Corktown Bootleggers @ Southlake Stealers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | All three Division leaders have 71 wins to date. The battle for the number one seed in the AL will come down to the wire. Corktown Bootleggers should come out of this week in good shape as they hit the road to take on the Southlake Stealers who have definitely thrown in the towel. |
Game #1: | The Stealers jump out to at 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a Dan Wilson double. But that was all they would get as Steve Traschel would yield just 2 more hits across 7 innings to shut down any scoring.
Ruben Rivera would give Corktown the lead in the third with a 2 run single. Corktown would later add 4 in the sixth inning thanks to a Cunnane throwing error on what may have been an inning ending double play. WP: Traschel (8-2) |
Game #2: | Recently recalled from the minors Gary Glover would see his first pitch of the game clear the fences compliments of A. Rod.
Glover would settle down and give up just 7 hits while tossing a complete game. Unfortunately for him 3 of those hits were bombs. Giambi and Palmer joined Rodriguez in that feat. Corktown would score a total of 5 runs on those 7 hits. Meanwhile Joe Mays would continue on his quest for a Cy Young award as he gave up only 5 hits across 7 innings for his league leading 16th win on the season. Final Score 5-2 Bootleggers WP: Mays (16-7) |
Game #3: | Which Chuck Finley will toe the rubber for Southlake? Will it be the one who leads the team with 6 complete games or will it be the pitcher who cant get past the 2nd inning?
Today it was Complete Game Chuck as he goes 9 innings giving up just 5 runs (4 earned) while striking out 8 Bootleggers. For Corktown Paul Abbott got the ball. He leads the league in walks allowed and it was evident from the start as he issues two walks early loading the bases for the Stealers. Big strikeouts by Encarnacion and Macias left the boys stranded right there to get out of the jam. That would be the last walks issued by Abbott on the day. Instead of struggling he would cruise against the weak hitting lineup on the way to 7 IPs, 3 walks, 4Ks and no runs. Final Score 5-0 Bootleggers WP: Abbott (7-9) |
Game #4: | Omar Daal has been incredible all year. The only loss was a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Expos early in the year. Today was no different going seven strong innings giving up just 4 hits and 1 run for his 11th win of the year.
Corktown is second in the AL in Homeruns and once again it helped lead to the victory. This time it was Dean Palmer. In limited action this year he notched his 9th dinger. He leads the team in HRs/PA. Jason Giambi continued to feast on Southlake pitching going 2/3 with a run and 1 RBI. He also helped plate two additional runs when he singled and a throwing error by the outfield led to the unearned runs. Final score 8-2 Bootleggers WP: Daal (11-1) |
Game #5: | Adams has started to find his place in this Stealer rotation going 2-0 in his last five starts. Meanwhile Lowe is the low man on the totem pole in the Bootleggers rotation, with an ERA over five and just 7 wins on the season.
The Bootleggers continue to bash with three more homeruns on the day. Including another from Giambi who loves playing in Southlake it would seem (3/4, 1 Run and 1 RBI). However, Adams would stretch out the hits over 6 innings and limit the damage by the boys from Corktown. Al Martin would hit a two run shot in the 4th to give the Stealers a lead they would not relinquish; despite a comeback attempt in the 9th by the Bootleggers. Down 5-2, a Palmer single and a bomb by Erstad would greet Leskanic who came in for the save. He would calm down and retire the next three batters putting the game on ice. Final score 5-4 Stealers WP: Adams (9-9) |
Game #6: | Batista joins the growing group of Bootlegger pitchers with double digit wins as he stymies the Stealers.
Batista goes 6 innings giving up 5 hits and no runs and striking out 4. But the day would belong to A-Rod. He lead off the game with a 453 foot shot to right field. In the 3rd inning he would hit a moon rocket to Al Martin. Martin would misplay it, bouncing out of his glove for what would be a 4 base error or what we call a little league homerun. Then in the top of the 7th he would add yet another Homerun. This one a legit 374 foot missile into the stands. One of the runs being unearned thanks to an earlier throwing error. His final line was 2/5 with three runs and 4 RBIs. The Stealer bullpen failed in their duty allowing every inherited runner to score. Final Score 7-1 WP: Batista (10-5) |
Series Summary: | Corktown takes 5 of 6 to grab the number one seed in the AL. With 45 games left in the season there will be alot of jockeying going on down the stretch.
Meanwhile Southlake continues to play for the future as they announce yet another trade at the end of the series. Incredibly this is their 13th trade of the year and I would bet they have another couple up their sleeves. |

Game #4: | Hollywood drew first blood in the 1st, but Gladstone put together 5 runs over the next few innings. FINAL SCORE: GLG 5 – HLW 2 |
Game #5: | Hollywood led 7-0 after 7, but Gladstone managed to score 5 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to force a 10th inning. But Hollywood scored 3 in their half, and Gladstone couldn’t answer. FINAL SCORE: HLW 10 – GLG 7 |
Game #6: | Hollywood took control of the game in the 6th inning on, and Gladstone was out of magic. FINAL SCORE: HLW 7 – GLG 2 |
Series Summary: | Two division leaders butted heads, and came away with a 3-3 series split. |
