Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and fellow lovers of the game standing before you today, I am filled with overwhelming gratitude and humility as I stand on the precipice of joining the illustrious ranks of the Mid-West Winter League (MWWL) Hall of Fame.
Reflecting on my journey through this incredible sport, I am humbled by the memories that flood my mind—the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, and the camaraderie among teammates that defined my years on the field.
My journey began in Picktown in 1970, a young player brimming with dreams and aspirations. From there, I embarked on a career that took me to various corners of this beautiful league. Chesterfield in ’71, Healdsburg in ’72, Long Beach in ’73, and ’86—each stop was a chapter in the story of my baseball odyssey.
Palm City, Gold River, Western Mass, Chicago, Clovis—the cities and the teams may have changed, but the passion and dedication I poured into this game remained unwavering. It was an honor to don the jerseys of these teams, to represent their colors, and to give my all on the diamond.
In the mosaic of my career, the statistics and accomplishments merely scratch the surface of the memories etched in my heart. The numbers, like the .256 batting average, the .345 on-base percentage, the 414 home runs, and 1228 RBIs are a testament to the countless hours of hard work and dedication, but they only tell part of the story.
The true wealth of my baseball journey lies in the friendships forged, the lessons learned, and the unwavering support of fans and teammates. The eight All-Star appearances were moments of pride, shared with teammates, coaches, and fans who became an integral part of my baseball family.
Today, as I stand before you on the cusp of joining the hallowed halls of the MWWL Hall of Fame, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to have lived my childhood dream—to play this beautiful game at its highest level.
To the fans who cheered me on, the coaches who believed in me, the teammates who stood beside me—thank you. Your support and unwavering belief fueled my passion and drive.
I am forever grateful for this incredible honor bestowed upon me today. To be enshrined among the legends of the game in the MWWL Hall of Fame is a privilege beyond measure. It is with immense pride and deep gratitude that I accept this honor.
Thank you, MWWL, for providing the canvas on which I painted the story of my baseball journey. Thank you for this cherished honor that I will forever hold close to my heart. And to all who have been a part of this incredible journey, I am eternally grateful.
