Don Mattingly‘s stellar ten-year career in the Mid-West Winter League (MWWL) makes him an undeniable choice for the MWWL Hall of Fame. Mattingly played for three teams: the Long Beach Titans (LBT), Mexico City Chihuahuas (MEX), and Harper Woods Expos (HWE). His career totals are superb, particularly considering he amassed 1,994 hits and 994 Runs Batted In (RBI) across 1,650 regular season games. His lifetime regular season batting line of .314/.367/.480 with an .847 OPS is indicative of a consistent, elite-level hitter.
Mattingly’s dominance peaked early with the Long Beach Titans. In his five full seasons with the Titans (1984-1988), he averaged a .336 batting average, 212 hits, and 99 RBI per season, culminating in a Most Valuable Player award and a Gold Glove First Base in 1986. He was named an All-Star Game Starter in three consecutive years (1986-1987) and won a second Gold Glove with the Mexico City Chihuahuas in 1992, showcasing exceptional defense throughout his career.
Despite a short peak, Mattingly appeared in the postseason eight times. He demonstrated his ability to perform in crucial moments, particularly in the League Playoffs, where he posted a .361 batting average and a .998 OPS across 16 games.
